  1. Hi All, I've been away from the marque for a few years (I have an Audi A6), but my next planned change will be back to Skoda. I'm seriously considering a 2017+ Diesel Superb (L&K if possible) - but I notice most of the ones available come with the DSG box. I was going to go for a manual, but are there any downsides with this auto? My Audi has the 8 speed Multitronic CVT box and it's clutch packs are on the way out, and with expensive (£250) 20K mile transmission oil changes, I thought a manual was the safest way to go.. I'm almost scared to consider something not manual! Is the relability good, are the oil changes painfully regular and expensive? Any advice greatfully received. Thanks all..
  2. Hi All, Does anyone know the actual maximum addressable size for an SD card that can be used in the Swing radio slot? I read on a thread that someone had used a 128gb card, but was wondering if anyone had tried a larger capacity one? Thanks Dean
  3. It's had 1 owner since new in 2017, but not been MOT'd in about a year as it appears to have been unused since last November. It wouldn't have any MOT history anyway as one was due last November - around it's 3rd birthday. My only real concerrns were regarding the engine and box, everything else was in really good condition.
  4. There is no MOT history! The first MOT should have been completed late last year but still hasn't been done. This in conjunction with my thoughts of it being a driving school car, and perhaps it not being used in the last year due to covid restrictions, may have an ounce of truth in them perhaps? I may ask the dealer to give it a service as part of the deal. I can't find anywhere online with any concerns about the 1.0 MPi engine in general.. assuming as its a VAG derived power plant it should be pretty bullet proof?
  5. Hi All, Just after some advice from the knowledgable amongst you.. The wifes old Audi wont pass its next MOT, so we decided that it would be better that she go for something small and economical instead of a diesel burner as she only does around 5K miles per year now.. There's a couple of Citigo's in our road and we quite like the look of them so decided to do a little research and came up with a prospective candidate. It's a 67 place Colour edition with some nice extras, however it urgently needs front brake discs and pads. It's done 34K miles. Now here's the rub; 1) I spotted some light scratches and the faint outline of an oblong mark on the roof along with old suction marks - combined with the worn our brakes, I'm suspecting it may have been used as a driving school car. 2) It has NO history at all. the local dealer said it came in with the book pack but no receipts etc. I called Skoda and they confirmed that service history on these is digitally stored since 2014, however it's never seen a manufacturers dealership since it left Progress Skoda in November 2017. 3) Apart from a couple of very light marks and the roof could do with a mop and polish the car appears very straight. The interior is all good with only light usage marks and it drives on the button, very quiet engine and smooth gearchange. and it seems to get down the road very nicely. The prospective price has been beaten down by a few hundred quid from the screen price (which is pretty competitive for a car of that age and with that spec) and the dealer said he'd MOT it and replace the front brakes, My question is - what would be your opinion on basically buying a car with a potential history (or lack of) ? It'll also come with 6 months warranty. Thanks for your time. Dean
  6. You want to try the Anker A3143 Premium Bluetooth Speaker; https://www.anker.com/products/A3143011 There's absolutely nothing to touch it in it's price bracket. 20W RMS output. Real punchy bass, and decent mid & High's. Currently at £43.99 on Amazon, but occassional goes on special at £35. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Wireless-Bluetooth-Radiators-Subwoofers/dp/B0109TWZ54/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481899243&sr=8-1&keywords=anker+premium It's a better performer than the Bose Soundlink Mini. Just read the reviews on Amazon. And also well reviewed on Youtube;
  7. Your machine is running slowly - most likely to all the background processes it's running. But if it were mine, I'd do a backup onto external media, then restore the original copy of Windows 7 from the Recovery Partition. Unless you machine has had a reformat/repartition since new then the recovery option should still be there. It's by far the best solution and will be the only true way of ensuring your machine is running 100% to it's capability, and it's not that much of a job. You could then still legally upgrade to Windows 10 if you wanted to! Your machine has more than enough grunt to be able to run it..
  8. Would have loved to have played this with my DFGT, but as a protest at being forced by Sony to go down the ludicrously expensive Thrustmaster route I'll be reluctantly boycotting ALL driving games on the PS4 unless Sony wake up and realise they're p***ing off a huge chunk of their user base.
  9. My LM is chair and the office manager is the witness, although I believe their evidence collection was/has been done by the latter. Again how this is proved I don't know?
  10. We have a company employee handbook that details the disciplinary procedure but after reading it twice can find no reference to it mentioning that as an employee I have to submit evidence prior to any disciplinary hearing. If it had said that then of course I would have supplied it. If I however then choose not to disclose my evidence before the hearing then I guess I may run the risk of having a adjournment, then the matter being referred to a higher manager (as detailed in the handbook).The only person above my line manager is the VP!
  11. If you have the same spec car as mine from I think 2013 onwards I think you should have this mentioned in your user manual, page 127. you can also view the latest manual here; http://ws.skoda-auto.com/OwnersManualService/Data/en/Superb_3T/05-2014/Manual/Superb/B6_Superb_OwnersManual.pdf
  12. As far as I have read the device isn't classified as a Smartphone. I'm not aware of it running specific apps like Google but it must be doing something in the background! I'm not in a union so have only a colleague to rely on. My hearing should have been this morning but has been 'postponed' until the 4th December whilst they 'consult' with an outside HR company. Highly unfair in my mind as I was prepared to go in there today with my evidence. Now it seems (although I can't prove it) that they are now seeking more advice. They also sent me a copy of their evidence by email together which along with a bunch of the scanned original email traffic contains detail given to them by a colleague who has the same phone and same car and therefore proves that some kind of manual intervention must have taken place by myself to effect a data download through the car. How they can actually prove this however remains a mystery to me.. They're also asked for a copy of my evidence to which I have initially replied, saying that I would have done during the hearing today, but will not await until the rescheduled hearing date. Their response to this was that 'it is upto me to provide the evidence which will act on my behalf and they advise that this is my best interest, lest they be forced to make a decision based on the information before them only'.
  13. In answer to Aspman's two points - I work for a global company in the electronics sector. We have around 20,000 employees. I perhaps could have expected bad practice from a small organisation but this organisation is huge. No, only users of iphones have access to the company email system via the 'Lotus Notes Traveller' app. An app that would never be able to run on this device.
  14. In answer to your points; Has the company undertaken any investigation into what caused the bill? I think our office manager called EE, or the intermediary company that handles our contract on behalf of EE to qualify the cost, I've done all the other investigation myself without help with both Skoda and Nokia. Was the phone configured in such a manner to prevent unexpected bills i.e. 3G disabled. 3G was enabled, however there is no easy way to see this until you burrow down into the menus. The official user guide in fact makes no reference to being able to do this, and as I said I've had the handset for over 3 years without incident. Did the phone include preinstalled software that may result in accidental bills? - I'm unable to tell, have not been advised either way. Have you been provided with any advice/training on how to use the phone, were you explicitly told not to use it for data? - No training or advice has been given. The company policy document only makes specific relation to Iphone devices. The iphone is our standard phone across Europe. Only the UK have these old handsets. The policy document also states that it must not be used to incur data charges (so I was aware of the fact that I should avoid any incidence). Has the company undertaken any investigatory action with the mobile phone company to ensure the bill is correct? - I believe that refers to the first point, when they contacted EE over the bill amount. I would fully expect the bill to be correct in the eyes of EE. As far as I'm aware there's been no investigation by the company as to the content of the data. Thanks
  15. They initially sent me a letter on the 13th November telling me that 'after intensive investigation between the network provider and Skoda and simulating what we perceived to have happened all facts point to employee fault and manual intervention that started the issue' They gave me a deadline of November the 20th by which time I had to provide 'real evidence'. I then wrote a letter to them the next day (14th) pointing out that the company had failed to invite to to a formal disciplinary hearing, with the usual rights of accompaniment, and that as stipulated in point 13 of the Employment Rights Act (1996) I'm protected as an employee from the right not to suffer unlawful deduction of wages etc. (there is nothing in my contract to state this is ok). On the 20th I received a letter asking me to attend a hearing on the 25th at 11am. This afternoon, I received another notification (by email), telling me the hearing had been postponed and would now take place on the 4th December!! I've not gone back to them yet. I was psyched up for the meeting tomorrow after a week of sleepless nights, and lack of appetite. This is killing me!!
