  1. I realise from further reading around I'm in the wrong section as my Superb is a facelift MK2, and not a MK3 as I thought it was! So may not apply to your vehicles anyway.
  2. Sorry to bump an old thread but figured bumping old threads is better than making new ones on already covered subjects. Just had to get my Superb 3 in the air and was rather stunned when looking under the car at the amount of plastic covers and no obvious points for jacking the car. Obviously no complaints about the covers as I like that for underbody protection but... for this sort of thing it's frustrating! In the end I removed what I assumed was a jacking point cover (there was one in the same place either side) which had a soft rubber insert in it which you could push in (?!) and put a thick piece of cardboard in there and jacked up on that as when I tried on the sill itself the rubbery paint protection cover seemed to be deforming and trying to split which made me grimmace. The only mystery was that I realise upon putting the car back down there is something running around the edge of the jacking point which almost looks like a wire or similar and I'm worried I've damaged that... I also managed to break the jacking cover point and need to order a new one.. I attached the picture if someone could actually re-assure me that these are indeed jacking point covers and not for something more important! Just have to rant about this. Why aren't there just obvious jacking points, on cars, for doing this sort of thing?! It would make everyones life easier and make working on a car so much safer!
  3. I do some DIY but don't own VCDS unfortunately... I would buy it but a touch steep at £220 limited to only three cars. Appreciate it's pretty much a must have though... I come from BMW ownership more recently and INPA and DIS were essential tools. My neighbour does have a pretty decent Autel scanner so I might have to ask him if I can check it over.. it might do battery coding!
  4. So the sticker on the car does have a BEM QR code on it so.. as you say, chances it's original though I was advised again that it was always Skoda maintained...
  5. I've just bought a battery tester from Amazon which should be showing up today but I will absolutely check the age of the battery anyway just out of interest!
  6. I recently bought a L&K Superb MK3 with the 2.0 TDI engine, and manual gearbox. Admittedly the car would be a better drive if it was an automatic but I just did a drive to York and back (approx 120 miles each way) this weekend and averaged 58MPG... and whilst I did drive mostly for economy, I absolutely didn't drive it robotically so and I've no doubt 60mpg would have been achievable if I was even more steady. It's a really impressive engine honestly.. extremely smooth and refined. The only pain for me I find is if you're just slightly too early changing up (as the instrument cluster likes to nag you to do) it suddenly feels very unrefined (vibrations, flat feeling) trying to pull the car outside of the power band but as soon as the revs pass 1500RPM it's super smooth.
  7. Cheers folks.. in terms of where I bought the car it was a private sale but honestly I believe the seller was honest about the car and it's just a case of bad timing / luck.. really none of the issues seem that severe on the surface so happy to sort them. In terms of the battery.. I was contemplating buying a proper battery tester due to having a small stack of Amazon vouchers so may be useful.. I don't have access to VCDS so no easy way for me to check if stop start has been disabled...I do have Carly which was very useful on my E61 so will read up whether that is able to pull coding information for the stop start system.
  8. Acquired my 2015 L&K Superb 2.0 TDI on Friday 2nd Feb and a little dismayed to have already encountered a few technical issues despite it being a two owner car with full Skoda history. Naturally no such issues presented themselves on the test drive and I believe the seller when he said it was in perfect running order. First problem manifested within a few days which is a warning about the directional headlight system not working (has the adaptive xenons) .. from reading around and scanning codes, my HOPE is it's just the control module on the headlight unit itself and I plan to swap them around and see if the fault follows it and then look to buy a replacement / second hand unit. Secondly on a long drive yesterday had numerous faults light up on the dash at the same time about ABS failure, tyre pressure, and errors relating to stability control.. a scan points to a faulty rear wheel speed sensor.. they're cheap'ish enough so I've ordered one to swap over on the drive in the next few days. The only other interesting one seems to be that stop/start isn't activated somehow.. doesn't really seem to show any warnings for it, but just doesn't work. I don't particularly care for stop start but it's meant to have it so would be good to try and fix it though I expect that may be a bit more involved...
  9. Hey folks... I just picked up yesterday a very nicely maintained two owner 2015 Superb Laurin & Klement 2.0 TDI manual in silver with beige leather interior. It's done 78k and has a full Skoda history. Very pleased with my purchase and enjoyed the 100 or so mile drive home in comfort! I've almost always owned older cars so there's some interesting "new" (to me) tech on this which I'm looking forward to messing around with, not least park assist.. not sure how well that's going to work on a manual gearbox but I guess I'll have to find a quiet carpark somewhere and practice! But I am actually a way old Briskoda member having previously owned blue Octavia VRS about 10-11 years ago and having been registered on the site for almost 20 years... so have been around here a while, albeit not exactly active. But glad to see this place still very active after so many forums have gone the way of the dodo and moved to the much much inferior trend of a Facebook group! I look forward to getting back into the community. Cheers!
  10. I heard the turbo on mine (2006 TFSI) - it's certainly not loud, but it's definitely there! Crack the window open and drive slowly then as you start to come on boost open the throttle a bit and listen out..
  11. I was just trying to get as many things done as possible to prevent people from picking fault on the car when (if!) they come to view it.. :(
  12. Apologies - should have searched for threads first. Just turned this recent one up: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/246743-chucks-of-alloy-paint-flaking-off-an-experiances-under-warranty/ Admin can lock this if they want.
  13. I bought my 2006 Octavia VRS from a main dealer in about May/June 2012 and as part of the 'prep' the dealer offered to do was fix some kerbed alloys. Fast forward to now and despite the wheels having been off the car for the duration of winter (bought winter tyres this year and put them on some 16" steels) the condition of them is appalling. The refurb job basically is totally substandard and the paint has flaked off leaving the wheels looking like they've got leprosy! I don't park near kerbs either at home or work, and the wheels are cleaned regularly without harsh chemical cleaners but basically 3 out of the 4 are in a total state. Now this wouldn't bother me TOO much but I'm considering parting with the car in the coming months.. has anyone been in a similar situation with a pre-owned car from Skoda and did you attempt to get the issue rectified under warranty? Or are they likely to tell me to jog on? I expect they'll tell me "wear and tear" which is fair enough - but to be honest the paint started to come off within mere months of buying the car. I guess I should have done something about it then... :( Thanks in advance.
  14. The first person to reply also lives in Warwickshire - same as me Thanks - I'll check the booklet when I get home.
  15. Hi folks.. this concerns an Octavia but as I guess it's non-model specific I thought I'd post it in here! I bought a 2006 MK2 Octavia VRS from a main dealer last May. I love it, but am looking to part with it due to a change in circumstances. When I bought it, it came with a standard Approved Used 1 year warranty and I elected to extend by another a year for a reasonable £300. So the car should still have over a year of warranty on it. Short question then after all that - is this transferrable to a new owner if I sell the car on? Thanks.
  16. Reassuring for prices of these which seem to have been all over the place for a while. I might be looking to part with my 2006 race blue estate fairly soon and was seriously starting to flap at where the prices were going. I appreciate yours was a mint example (mine is pretty decent though) and with more options but gives me confidence that I should probably be able to sell it at a fair price
  17. Bear in mind a couple of years ago, we even had snow in April! I did have the same thought this weekend as I went up to the PistonHeads Sunday Service at Silverstone this weekend but for the last couple of days the temperature around where I am has been a steady 0 degrees with some ice on the roads in places, and now they're saying there are snow flurries forecast for later in the week and temperatures set to plummet again - so definitely still winter tyre conditions!
  18. It was fairly abrubt braking but the guy behind should leave more than enough space for reasons like this - he was unequivocally at fault. Top tip on that cheap dash cam too.... hmmm....
  19. I actually found for the first few months after buying mine, it had a habit of belching black smoke out (despite being a petrol VRS) when giving it the beans. This seems to have gone away now I'm nearly a year into ownership and I can't help but think this was down to the engine being sooted up from the previous owner using cheap / 95RON fuel. I've run it almost entirely on 97/98RON in the 10 months I've had it and have noticed that the black smoke doesn't seem to be an issue any more.
  20. From everything I've read, Shark Performance are the guys to talk to
  21. I think the service folks are pre-programmed to never acknowledge something as a "known fault" because it makes them look bad! And I'm not sure if all estates come with the spoiler or if it's some kind of option, but mine definitely has one.. mine is a pre-facelift (2006) but has the same kind of spoiler as this one, but I think lacking a third brake light (though can't remember!):
  22. Just bumping this as, much to my dismay, noticed a 50p size piece of lacquer peel on the spoiler of my 2006 Octavia VRS estate. It is still under warranty but I presumed it was just some back luck on my part.. however doing a search bought be back to Briskoda and many threads on this very subject. I think I might try my luck with a warranty claim in the next week or two - the car is still under a warranty agreement with Skoda - but somehow I doubt they'll be interested.
  23. Put 16" Michelin Alpin A4's on my Octavia VRS estate and have been chuffed to bits with the results. It was interesting using them for the first time as I didn't know what to expect.. and did find it's easy to provoke wheel spin and ABS panic with too much use of the throttle / brakes but once you know how you should be driving, I couldn't believe how capable the car was. Just fantastic how effortlessly I could get around on some truly dreadful roads. At one point I had a call from my sister saying "Don't come down my road - it's like an ice skating rink and everyone is getting stuck" - naturally I was quite keen to get down there and went up and down the road several times without a hint of drama. I'll never ever be without winter tyres for any of my cars ever again. They're magic. Oh and just to be clear - I'm not an inexperienced driver who needs winter tyres to make him able to drive in poor conditions. I've driven across Europe numerous times, have owned and driven all sorts of FWD and RWD early 90's cars with no traction control in the various winters we've had here throughout the years - I've never had any problems, and only had a few brown trouser moments. But winter tyres change everything
  24. Bit of a difficult one this as I guess it's an electrical / 3rd party problem but just wondered if this might be some common Octavia issue. My car is fitted with a Sony Ericsson HCB-30 hands free kit. It was already fitted to a used car I bought from a Skoda main dealer. It's been working fine up until about 1 month ago when I noticed it was no longer paired to my phone. I also discovered, subsequently that I'm unable to re-pair it or actually do anything with it as it's gone a bit haywire. However I only noticed the other day upon walking back to the car that the little control panel for it which lives down by the gearstick was all lit up - despite me having not unlocked the car. Just wondered if there could be anything wrong with the car itself, or whether this is (more) likely to be the fault of the hands free kit. I think I know the answer but am just a bit irked that this will mean having to get something fixed outside of warranty - and dealing with unknown vehicle electricians :( Thanks.
