  1. I had my Bolero freeze on me today. I left the radio on whilst I was replacing the Front Fog Lamp (that's another story not worth mentioning here, other than it took around an hour to fit a new bulb), a message appeared telling me that I should power off the Bolero or start the engine to preserve the battery. I powered off the Bolero.

Went out in the car this evening powered on the Bolero and it was frozen, no sound, no way to increase/decrease volume, no way to change channels etc..

Remembered reading this thread so went an pulled out the fuse (no 18) and hey presto it came back to life. I lost all of my stations and phone contacts but at least it is working now.

    Thanks Briskoda !

  2. Hi folks,

I've just booked my Yeti in for it's first service. It's not far off 2 years old, and is apparently on this long life servicing schedule. It's done about 18k miles. I've had no problems with it at all, but I was just wondering if there is anything I should be asking the dealer to do, when it goes in for the service. Are there any software updates, or bits of work that should be done in particular?

Oh, its a 140 diesel 4x4 by the way...

    Cheers

    Andy

My previous 2 cars (both VWs) had air-con recharges done as part of the 2 year service, but not Skoda apparently.  I am on the long life service schedule and was surprised that Skoda don't do a recharge like VW . My Yeti has just hit 3 years old, and whilst having its first MOT I paid extra to have the air-con recharged. It has made a vast difference and is much appreciated at the moment. It was 30 degrees yesterday coming home from work yesterday and the improved air-con was very welcome.   I did not realise how poor it was until I had it recharged, it was money well spent. I read that a car loses on average 10% of it's refrigerant every 2 years so maybe mine lost more but if your air-con appears to be not as good as when the car was new it is well worth having done.  Apart from the dreaded badge worm  issue  and weakened air-con my car has been faultless.

  3. Hope everyone's having a relaxing Easter weekend.

Grateful for advice on a gearbox issue. I had the rare opportunity to take Tibet 2 (2012 170 TDI manual) onto some A roads this weekend, and stretch her out a little. Most of my driving so far has been in London or motorway trips with a baby in the back. On 3 - 4 non-consecutive occasions I couldn't find the 5th/6th plane - each situation was the same  - accelerating hard up through the gears, tried to change from 4th to 5th at 3-3.5K and I couldn't get the lever to shift right, and after a bit of fiddling I put her in 3rd again. The feeling on trying to pull the lever to the right was a "spongy" block and on pushing up I got 3rd.

The first couple of times I blamed my incompetence at having driven an auto for the last few years (but manuals for several years before), but when it happened a couple more times I thought I'd post.

I tried to re-create it driving back on the M40 and could not - the gearbox shifted to the 5th/6th plane each time easily.

Am I being a total idiot, or should I ask the dealer to take a look?

By the way I'm really impressed with the Yeti and TDI 170 engine. She was great on the motorway through the heavy rain showers.

The first time I had a 6 speed gearbox I found it took some getting used too.  I had a VW EOS before the Yeti and found the gate was very small so getting the right gear was a challenge. I too would select 3rd when I tried to move up the box into 5th. I eventually got used to it. When I got the Yeti the gear selector was similar so didn't have a problem.  if you get a manual with the 6 speed box you will get used to it I am sure.

  4. I had a filling problem in France, in 2012. On the motorway we stopped for fuel and the place had been fitted with new pumps. I tried two pumps but only managed to get

€1:50 in each time after about 30,000 clicks of the pump. Embarrassingly paid my €1:50, twice, and moved onto the next motorway stop, about 40km further on. Fuelled up there no problem and never had a problem since.

Luckily I left myself enough fuel to get to the next stop.

I have had a similar problem when refuelling at a Morrisons Supermarket. I could not get any fuel into the car. It has never happened before or since. I swear the fuel nozzle was slightly larger than normal, hence not allowing enough air to vent.

  5. Must be the season for splitting wipers. Just replace my front wipers yesterday after the nearside one split. £26.99 from Motor World including free fitting. Took about 1 minute to fit.

Strange my nearside blade went two weeks ago after 20,000 miles. Offside blade was ok. I wonder if it is anything to do with the cold weather we have been having recently. .

I purchased the Bosch aerotwin blades following recommendations on here, they seem to do the job.

  6. Took the Yeti out today for a drive in the New Forest, had pub lunch and went for a walk. Plenty of snow left, but the car did not lose any grip even with standard tyres. I love this car, it never ceases to amaze me.

  7. I bought my Yeti through this company last May. I enquired through the website about a car in February and they told me they could get me a car by May. I was told that they could get me a Yeti 2.0 TDI Elegance CR170 (my original enquiry was for a TDI CR140 but what the heck the extra 30HP might come in handy) so I paid the deposit of £500 to place the order. The car was obviously already ordered as the spec was what they quoted (Elegance TDI CR170 Brilliant Silver with Spare Wheel).

The car arrived in May, paid the remainder and picked it up from Chesterfield. The car was delivered by trailer to their premises. The car had 7 miles on the clock.

I am not sure how they got the car in 3 months when at the time my local Skoda Dealer was quoting 6 months at least for a diesel, but I was very happy with the deal.

  8. I'm not so sure the term SLAM is the correct one?

It always brings to mind a careless act with no concern for the consequences.

I find that to shut the boot, I have to be POSITIVE with it.

Bring the boot lid down to about 6 inches from closed then give it a positive push to shut it.

Ok maybe SLAM is a bit strong .. it's certainly doesn't shut under it's own weight, so needs a little PERSUASION. Thats a better description .. PERSUASION.

  9. Hi all.

Does anyone else have a problem sometimes if you haven't quite shut the boot hard inuff it locks it's self and won't open because it's semi open kinda thing?

I'm getting quite annoyed now I have to slam it to stop it from doing this.

Is it a common thing or should I take it back to the dealer?

I find I have to give mine a good slam to shut it. It takes some getting used to, but as previous poster said it doesn't like being treated gently.

  10. My wife and I went to the Great Dorset Steam Fair today, and as usual the traffic was horrendous and had to crawl for the last few miles before entering the site and parking in a field. When I got out of the car I was horrified to discover it was going through a DPF regeneration. The heat from the underside of the car could be felt on my legs. The car park was a grass field that had dried to a straw like appearance. I was horrified as I thought that I was going to start a fire - I waited for it to cool but luckily nothing happened. Does anyone know if the DPF regeneration has ever caused a fire parked on dry grass ?

  11. Hi all,

Just got my new Yeti yesterday. Very positive first impressions, but I am having some trouble with the bluetooth's phonebook.

I have no trouble connecting my iphone and using the system (it works great actually). My only setback is the phonebook. At first, I had all my conctacts in Greek so I considered it only natural to be unable to view the phonebook correctly on the yeti's screens (unreadable characters appear, mostly squares :) ). On my first attempt, I noticed that a few of my conctacts who were written in english on the phone displayed fine, so I reached the conclusion that greek characters were the cause of the problem. After a lot of work ( i spent hours) i updated all my contacts on the iphone and converted them into english but to my suprise...when updading the phonebook nothing changes ! Still unreadable characters !

I tried many things, deleted my account, created a new one, switched off sync from the phone and updated again (clean phone book), connect once again but the issue still remains.

Anyone had any simiral problems? I"ll appreciate any suggestions. Probably not a big deal, but the bluetooth function is much better than what I expected and I really want to go for the full exprerience :)

Thank you all for your time !

I have a similar problem - I have an incorrect number (it's missing the last digit). I have corrected it on my phone, but I have been unable to get the updated number picked up by my bluetooth function. I have given up and added a new entry with a different name !!

  14. I have a Yeti CR170 Elegance which has just completed 4000 miles. The engine is a peach - it has so much torque it feels like it could tow a 30 ton truck. I love the acceleration that comes in heaps when I put my foot down, and however I drive it I get decent fuel economy. I am getting mid 40's around town and about 50 on a long run. The Yeti has the aerodynamics of a brick, so it doesn't return great economy on motorways, however I am sure with the same engine in a sleeker saloon or hatchback the acceleration and economy will be much better.

  15. Austin 1100 (first car after passing my test). It fell to bits after a while, but it was my first car so have fond memories.

    Ford Escort 1100.

Ford Escort 1300E (lovely rare car - now a collector's piece). I would give my right arm to get another.

Triumph TR7 1800cc (utter utter rubbish - my biggest car buying mistake)

Volkswagen Golf C (1100) My first brand new car - after the TR7 I was craving reliability.

Ford Sierra 1800 GL (2nd hand with dubious mileage).

Vauxhall Astra 1600 - 2nd brand new car, ultra reliable, 5 years and only failure was a single bulb).

Rover 420 GSI 16V (leaked oil like it was going out of fashion)

Mercerdes A160 AvantGarde - oh dear.

Volkswagen Passat SE 20V 1.8T - lovely comfortable car.

Volkswagen EOS 2.0 FSI Sport - great in the sun, a nightmare when it was raining or cold.

Skoda Yeti 2.0 TDI CR170 Elegance. Hopefully will see me through to retirement and beyond.

  16. Certainly sounds like DPF regen. The idling will be about 1000 instead of normal 800 and there is a distinct hot/burning rubbery smell. Only lasts a minute or 2

    Andy

I didn't notice the idling speed, but yes it was a very hot rubbery smell. I could feel a lot of heat coming from the underside of the car, so I assumed it was from the exhaust as the engine block was not excessively hot. It must generate a lot of heat when it is regenerating.

  17. I came home the other night in my 2 week old Yeti (CR 170) and as I turned off the engine the electric fan came on and stayed on for about 2 mins. The area around the car seemed very warm, so I immediately checked the engine temperature and oil temperature in the Maxidot, both appeared normal. The car even 'smelt' warm - if you know what I mean. I couldn't feel anything too hot in the engine bay either.

Untypically I had done a quite a few short journies that day so wondered if something was switched on to generate a lot of heat in the exhaust - which when finished then required the fan to cool it down.

    It has not repeated itself.

This is my first car with DPF so not sure if this is normal.

  18. On my 110 4x4 it's always telling me to change up before I feel she's ready, mind also been told to change down a couple of times; so quite you forget what gear your in :giggle:

    TP

I have just completed one week with my new Yeti, I learnt to ignore the Maxidot Gear selection recommendation after one day. The engine (170 4x4) seems to be labouring every time I change up - I don't think that is a good thing for a new engine.
