  1. Also, given that it is now in a garage, shall I ask them to investigate why it doesn't feel as gutsy anymore? The diesel VW Passat they gave me pulls much stronger between 2k and 3k rpm which has made me wonder. I do understand the perception of torque/speed is all relative and maybe I have gotten used to the VRS, but the comparison with the Passat was a bit annoying. There was once a fault code about checking the turbo pipes to see if they are loose (I dont remember the code), but upon clearing it never came back up. Or I'll take the cheap route and try the Mr Muscle cleaning thing posted here? FWIW, I regularly service it with new filters all round, branded diesel only, every 4 fills I stick in the Shell Nitro stuff.
  2. 10 metres away from my home, after a night shift, my VRS stopped. It will engage gears fine, but at the biting point all I get is a scary grinding-clunking noise with no movement. Because I still have shifts to do, I got the VRS recovered to a garage nearby which offered a courtesy car. But it isn't my usual garage (Unit 18 in MK), so I just want to make sure I'm prepared and not being fleeced when they call me tomorrow with their diagnosis and quote. I know I'm not giving you much to go on, but I'm hoping maybe someone here has more of an idea than I do... TIA
  3. Thats amazing, thank you so much! I will do that. Unfortunately I've been too busy to actually fit everything together...hoping for some time in the next month. You have been most helpful, I will keep you posted.
  4. Thanks, Mike. Just bought that from your link. So long USB trailing all the way back to the back, instead of tapping into some wires at the rear? Sounds easy enough! (I just bought a used Mobius for £40 for the rear). Thanks a lot Thanks for that! I'll sort my set up out over the next week when I have some spare time.
  5. On another note, are there spare permanent lives in the VRS? Just to save me time exploring with a multimeter....otherwise I'll buy a few piggybacks. The previous owner of my 3500 already crimped on spades to the wires, but they're not piggybacks :/
  6. If I go for the two Mobii option, is there some sort of magic box which integrates both feeds, or are they essentially independent of each other? No doubt the picture quality is great, and the GPS dongle with the Power Magic Pro device are added bonuses. I'm just scared I will get broken into again...I do often leave my car in some less than savory areas sometimes. Maybe I am just being overly cautious after having been broken into and lightning won't strike twice. The mobius looks the size of a matchbox....whereas the 3500 is quite more substantial. Mike, I love the way you have mounted yours. Regardless of what I do for the front camera, I am definitely getting a Mobius for the rear. I may be able to tap into the Power Magic Pro to leave it running in some sort of park mode too. Do you have any advice in this regard? What is the story behind the Mobius? I can't find much on Wiki....just says it's sold in the UK direct from the manufacturers in China. But it's not some piece of Chinese tat, obviously.....
  7. Thanks, langers. I'll have a play around with my multimeter and see. If I get stuck, I'll take you up on your offer! Urgh, I think I made the wrong choice ;/ I'll fit the Blackvue and try it for a couple of weeks. I will probably end up selling it and getting a Mobius.
  8. Thanks for the detailed reply, Mike. Your set up looks great! Does the Mobius record on loop and only save if there's impact, or it's continuously recording? Two Mobii would have been cheaper than what I bought :/ Any suggestion on which mini fuse slots I should tap into since there's no accessory position? Many thanks, F
  9. I just bought a BlackVue DR3500-FHD with the GPS Module and the Power Magic Pro, but only just realised quite how conspicious it is. Do you guys leave it in the car when parked? I don't want to get broken into again. Now I'm regretting this buy and wishing I read up more and bought a Mobius. My plan was to put this in the front and get something cheaper as a rear cam (I got rearended at some traffic lights, third party's insurance was denying liability, my insurance said that initially I would lose my NCB to repair and then they would chase up TPI for payment. I was going to go ahead, but my renewal was coming up in a month and I didn't want to lose NCB. Given the damage was only to the plastic rear bumper and the underlying structure was okay according to two bodyworks people, I just let it be). If I had a rear cam, they couldn't have denied and my claim would have been much easier. On another note, I was going to wire the Power Magic Pro by piggybacking existing fuses, but it already has two fuse plugs wired up. Would there be free 'BATT +' and 'ACC +' in the fuse box to tap in to?
  10. Sorry for the very delayed reply to you guys. Thanks so much for your input! Some of the scuffs are on metal bits, others on the plastic front bumper. I'll prioritise the metal ones, thanks. I might just read up on detailingworld and do it myself for now. Funny that you mention suspension...I was thinking that over the last month. It doesn't feel as tight as it used to, and obviously no comparison to a Fabia with a RARB. I'll explore this. Thanks, guys!
  11. Nikonite: when I walk towards the car, I always feel bad about the scuffs etc...but then I drive it and all the sadness goes away kjaybVrs: Oh, I am no way near settled, but still a long away from being granted a mortgage, so I guess ISA is the sensible option. (I can be impulsive sometimes...trying to keep that under control by seeking opinions).
  12. So, I have saved up about £600 and wondering what you suggest I spend it on: 1) Send to an indy smart repair to fix up a few scrapes and a broken front bumper towards the offside area. 2) Get a remap. 3) Invest in some other mechanical improvements (if so, what?) 4) Put it in an ISA. I am terrible with decision making....so that's why I resort to you guys to point me in the right direction FWIW, 57 reg MK2 VRS, 120k on the clock, not planning on getting rid of it for the next 4 years. Thank you, Briskodians!
  13. I saw the thread by Dann2707, but that's a different engine to mine (BMN for me). Could someone confirm if the link below is the right one for me? https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8DtJl-EIp8VTlpjc2kyWk1PLUU/edit?pli=1 Mainly after the pictures really, so I can remove mine and give it a good clean. Will also do the Mr Muscle treatment soon. Many thanks!
  14. This crack makes me think a repair may be more expensive than getting one from the scrappy. Can anyone recommend any indy bodyworks places in the East Anglia area? Or even in London? I'm based in Cambridge, but am willing to travel for a good deal. The local Chips Away is quite xp, based on a previous quote I got.
  15. Appreciate the insight. Any rough idea of how much a VGC bumper should cost? Under £200? Bumper repair specialist people....like the Chips Away franchise?
  16. So I drove it into a stupid bollard hidden in the shadows next to a wall. I posted on FB for a heads up of any blue VRSs being broken and found two in Manchester. But, is there a possibility of taking the front bumper off and beating it on the inside to get the dent out? It is broken near the screw on the left of the grill, but if it were to look okay, it would save me a lot of hassle. The headlight washer cap has broken off, but I can't work out if it has left pieces in the mechanism. The piece that fell has three prongs on it which look snapped....is it just pliers to take out what its left in the washer? Based on previous threads, I think I can buy replacements from the dealer for <£10. If, however, you suggest I replace the whole bumper, what do I use to cut the washer holes with? A dremel? And am I right in thinking the VRS front bumper is different to the standard Octavia? If they are the same, are there non-VRS Octavias in Racing Blue? Also, since I will have to take the bumper off etc, is it worthwhile doing a retrofit of front parking sensors (to avoid this kind of stupidity in future)? Mine already has the rear sensors and the Stream MP3 radio; based on other threads here, it will involve some VCDSing. As ever, many thanks.

  18. What about just filling with the premium diesel for a couple of tanks?
  19. I've found the list of compatible alloys on here and have been using it to search on the bay...but am struggling to find many. If there's anyone there with some time, would you mind helping me out? I thought I might spend the amount needed for one new Zenith alloy on just getting a different used set.
  20. Honestly, I didn't notice it had that many weights...I haven't had it taken in for geometry since I bought the car last year and wasn't diligent enough to take off all the wheels and check them. I'll take it somewhere reputable to have that looked in to once I've got hold of another set of alloys.
  21. Once I have the alloy sorted, I will definitely save for a dash cam! I didn't realise it was that dangerous...will definitely avoid in future. I just thought by the time recovery would have got there, I would have been able to sort it myself. I never considered the risks: thanks for the heads up. I will get this done...thanks for the tip.
  22. I did consider that...but I wasn't able to get any photos to substantiate my claim, so I thought it wasn't worth chasing up. But if you think otherwise, I'll definitely give it a go.
  23. Thoughts on these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-18-Alloy-Wheels-5x112-Set-Of-5-VW-Volkswagen-/311276986011?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item48798dde9b or these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FULL-SET-OF-x4-ASA-AR1-18-ALLOY-WHEELS-5x112-8J-5-STUD-WITH-GOOD-TYRES-/321660177506?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4ae470cc62 Zeniths seem hard to come by...might be cheaper/easier to just change the whole set :/
