  1. The Octavia vRS went in for a MOT and service yesterday Got around £700 bill, and nothing is covered by warranty direct. Is this the beginning of the end? At least it passed it's mot with HID and LED Sidelights =) Lots of little things including Rear boot seal, when it rains the spare wheel bay becomes a paddling pool, engine cover mount broken - £215 to to fix this issue .... £215 for an engine cover mount? Because of this problem the oil cap keeps breaking, on my 3rd cap now at £15 a pop! Glad I've got the new company car an not using much of the Skoda, I can get things done in stages now. Not complaining too much, not much gone wrong with it over the years and still happy with it. Done over 114,000 miles now so should expect a few things. One thing I have noticed, got a Mondeo Titanium X Sport with 19" rims as a company cay which has "sports suspension" and the ride i a LOT less harsh than the Octavia. Anyone who has driven between J3a and J5 of the M42 will know what I mean!!
  2. All the problems I had with my vRS TFSI was when I first got it! From the address in the owners manual the previous owner was in the RAF and in his last 2 years of ownership it had done 2500 miles, so things like seals had gone and the most expensive thing was the a/c compressor. I put warranty direct on it and luckily everything was sorted with minimal costs. Since then only minor things have gone wrong and they are things that you would expect. Done just over 110k in it now. I do have the oil consumption, the main dealer told me it does use 1litre of oil per 1000 miles, does seem ridiculous i know, it depends on how you drive the car, floor it all the time and the oil goes down quick but drive sensibly and it lasts a while, I do 100 miles a day to/from work and utually top up once a month. On my drive to work I stick to 60 on the motorway, that way a tank of fuel lasts me a week =) Skoda recommends 5-30 oil which they sell for around £20 but you can get the same oil in wilkinsons for £11. I use 5-30 or 5-40 I really don't know why 07 vRS Taxi has so many problems, sounds like a dud car to me. This one does sound like an ex lease and probably serviced regularly but keep in mind how some company car drivers drive... it's not their car and they don't really care about it.
  3. It's unbelievable how so many people use their lights incorrectly... in fact use their car incorrectly. The answer ... simples get people to do a refresher test every 5 years, if they fail take the refresher again and if they fail 3 times revert them back to provisional so they have to take the full test. This way all drivers that are on the road are quaranteed to be up to date. It will never happen though. I do like this though 234 Before entering fog check your mirrors then slow down. If the word ‘Fog’ is shown on a roadside signal but the road is clear, be prepared for a bank of fog or drifting patchy fog ahead. Even if it seems to be clearing, you can suddenly find yourself in thick fog. The use of the words "SLOW DOWN", how many people have you seen in thick fog / very very heavy rain doing 90 in the fast lane with their fog lamps on. It's a fog lamp button not an invunerability shield...
  4. Wish I'd done that when I changed to HIDs! Luckily just had my winter service done by Skoda and they've aligned them for me =)
  5. I don't know how people are having so many problems unless there's a propriety Windows 32bit driver for one of the devices on your machine that just doesn't like windows 8. I must say, I love it. Not had a single issue and it's not a special machine and it's a few years old, Dell Inspiron with 3Gb and a Geforce GTX 260 Video card. If anyone was going to have problems I though it would have been me! Did an upgrade of Windows 7 that has been on since it was released so loads of crap installed too.
  6. My Octavia 2 vrs is now at 110,000. Probably change it in September. Had my fair share of problems when I bought, not from a main dealer. Luckily I put Warranty Direct on it. AC Compressor was the biggest thing to do, would have cost me over £550 all the niggly things are sorted now though and absolutely love it. Serviced regularly should get me to 200k with no worries. Going to get another vrs towards sept next year - petrol again (diesel shmiesel lol) but from a main dealer this time.
  7. Had the quarter panels done last week at Trust Group Redditch after my winter service. Great service again. Thanks Sam.
  8. Upgraded to Windows 8 the other day. I love it! Still have the desktop and backwards comparability for my stuff then there's "Start" that my wife uses. She is computer illiterate, but she loves the front end, similar to smartphones. Thinking of getting a touchscreen monitor now. I work in IT and been on XP for a long time now, Windows 7 was a breath of fresh air but Windows 8 has gone that one step further. So many apps in the store people don't have to worry about "oh, how do I install this application" etc.
  9. lol, I had a bit of a panic. Checked all the fuses before deciding to take it out =) All sorted now and radio working as it should. Thanks for the help.
  10. Panic over, took the car for a spin and the ABS / ESP does work =) Lights went off when the car started moving.
  11. Maybe I should have just taken out fuse no F19 which is for the radio rather than take the battery off
  12. Right, tried it but need to leave it for a bit before I can confirm. One strange thing that's happened when I put the battery back on was the tyre pressure, esp and steering light has come on, I'm hoping this is just a fuse blown but my scanner isn't showing any codes.
  13. Thanks guys, will give it a go and report back =)
  14. Happened again, factory reset won't fix it now either!
  15. Hi I have an MFD2, had this problem a while back when the radio did not power on when I switched on the ignition. This was fixed by doing a factory reset on the radio. Had to do this every couple of months but it's done it again and now a factory reset won't help. Anyone have any ideas?
  16. Another strange thing I have happening is if I adjust my right wing mirror with the knob in the "R" position it also adjusts the left wing mirror. Is there a short somewhere or is it a "Feature"?
  17. that's such a good idea lol. It's on for the rear demister. Or even better, get it to go off after a while
  18. My Ford wing mirror heaters came on with the rear demister, good thing about that was I didn't have to remember to switch it off again. VW/Skoda work independently, my question was does it switch off automatically after a while, the answer is no! Also tested this morning, if I use the rear demister it does not heat the wing mirror. Anyway, back to my question.... lol The heating element is coming away from my mirror. Is that repairable or do I need to buy a new mirror and element? Cheers
  19. Got the mirror off today, connectors are fine but the heating element is coming off the glass. Is this repairable or is it a new mirror? Found this, i'm sure it will be the right one, http://carwingmirror...ors(952785).htm Octavia MK2 [05-09] Clip in Heated Mirror Glass It's £20 cheaper than from a main dealer Cheers
  20. Thanks guys, I'll see if I can get it open and have a look.
  21. The driver side mirror heater (demister) of my car isn't clearing the mirror as quick as the passenger side. How easy is it to replace the element, anyone done it? Also, I always forget to move the switch back to normal after putting the demister on, is there a time out for this or does it stay on all the time? It's been on for days without me noticing before! Cheers
  22. How about slowing down and keeping your distance, the bright red light isn't called a "rain lamp", it's called a FOG lamp.
  23. Aston Martin DB9 V12 BMW M3 Prodrive Impreza STI - Modded beyond belief!! - but handling was crap
  24. Nope, that would be you hogging the outside and using your phone. "That's 3 points don't you know". Looking at the lorry you were passing your speed was more than 70!! Had you been doing 50 it would have been much safer.
  25. F1 cars do a similar thing?? they are driving at over 150mph! It's a bit of a different situation
