  1. I have no idea about the washer jets. I will have a look later when i get a chance. Do you know if its heated for the headlamps or the windscreen? I know the headlamp washers dont have wires going to the front part. Perhaps it heats further up the line though.
  2. Using a handy picture of the fuse layout someone posted here a while back i finally fixed my cigarette socket. Anywho whilst in there i checked the other fuses and found im missing the fuses for the "heated washer jets" and the fuel pump!! The car is a standard 2003 octavia tdi elegance. Should i just stick these fuses in or will my car explode if i do that? I would have thought a fuel pump is quite necessary for the car to drive but maybe its for the petrol?
  3. Hi mate, just to double check - i assume the touch up kit is suitable for smallish chips and the like and not just scratches? If so I will take it. Whereabouts in hampshire are you? Im in portsmouth.
  4. if vrs wrc doesnt buy it for any reason and its for the hatchback like he says i will take it.
  5. I would take you up on that but i live in portsmouth...right on the south coast. Love it but its a flipping mile away from anywhere!
  6. nope, i have thought about getting one at some point though. Thanks
  7. I took my octavia and elegance badges off the car a while back but have small ridges surrounding where the letters once where. I know the car had a bit of respray work done on some panels prior to my ownership so I THINK this may be the cause. Does anyone know a good way to blend the small ridges in better short of a respray? I tried polishing them up and even using the dreaded scratch remover which felt like rubbing sand on the bodywork but nothings really worked.
  8. This looks really interesting upgrade and the testimonials make me very tempted to try it. Could someone ask a few questions for me? Does anyone nkow what insurers think of this? Im only 20 so insurance is a big concern..small modifications can add a huge premium. Also, im fairly good mechanically but have never got involved in car maintenance. How hard would something like this be to do for a, lets assume, beginner? Are there instructions or a guide that give some pointers anywhere? The Seat leon video is very cool, really shows a big difference!
  9. could i just derail temporarily and ask how you removed the original mirror glass? Does it just prise out? Mine isnt broken but i want to replace it for ashperic glass you see. I have a heater one from ebay but, if as you say, the wiring is to short im thinking i should stick the new glass on the old backing plate.
  10. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/213524-fitting-mesh-to-grill-and-bumpers/ great thread! Has given me some real inspiration.
  11. Just changing the fuel filter on my octy 1.9tdi. I just cant seem to get the fuel lines off! Obviously I've undone the clips but the line just doesnt want to bug. Have I missed something or are they just a PITA to get off?
  12. At an average of 35mph i would say that is a low mpg if done by the computer. On my computer it says i get 80 if i cruise around at 30mph without too many stop starts. Ive not calculated REAL figures though so might be out !
  13. IVe just bought some mats off ebay, no idea if they will be any good though. I put some normal aero wiper blades on. The universal jobbies that fit any car and they are great. Again, ebay ones! Although pretty good quality. I've seen people doing mods to put aero assemblies from other cars on but I see no advantage over just using a universal blade.
  14. 150 years of tinkering experience - quite impressive! Welcome to the forum, i only joined about 2 months ago but its a great place even if you only read topics most of the time. I too am quite interested in getting good mpg from my skoda although i do like to drive it a bit quicker sometimes. Managed to get about 70 to/from work today even with some idiot drivers jamming brakes on in front of me.
  15. nice little write up! Car looks nice aswell.
  16. I just bought a 03 110 tdi elegance for 2.6k with about 95k miles on the clock. I would avoid teh ambiente or classic interiors, i saw a few whilst looking and thought they were really horrible. Elegance is quite nice, L+K is lovely but pricey!
  17. Yeah I saw that too, I reasoned that as they went away once the engine started they were normal. Thats how the astra I drove previously worked.
  18. Oh i should have also noted this only happens in the morning before work. Never in the evening!
  19. Thanks for the reply. When I turn the ignition on the battery light does come on until the car is started. I havent owned it long enough to know whether thats normal or not though! Ill check the other points you mentioned tomorrow and i really should double check when the timing belt was last done.
  20. Hi guys, the past few mornings when starting my octavia its been a little rough and difficult to start. I dont have much experience with diesels but it sounds like its 'firing' just not getting up to rpm and starting. Once it starts though its absolutely fine. Its due a service which is coming at the end of the month so im curious as to whether I should be worried about a filter being blocked or plugs dying somewhere?
  21. I might be tempted to come to a meet in my boring diesel. Never been to one so no idea what they are like, I'm sure you are all very friendly though! Churchillian is a good pub, theres also the chairmakers over the hill which isn't bad. Car park isn't massive though.
  22. After inspeciting all the fuses none of them looked like they had gone so I guess I do need a new re wiper motor. I think the washer fluid issue is because im missing the front headlamp washer so that can be sorted quite easily. Thanks for the replies guys, I know this topic is quite a regular (and annoying) one Bowders - do you have a build thread or anything? I live in Portsmouth, im wondering if I've seen you driving around?
  23. sorry, I wasn't very clear. When I operate the rear wiper, the arm doesn't move at all. Not even erratically. The washer also only lets a small amount of water through to the rear wiper. I only bought the car last week so I don't even know how to operate the headlamp washers. Is it with the rear washer or the front windscreen washers that they activate? edit - its a hatchback
  24. It appears my octavia has the usual problem where the rear wiper doesnt work (not even erratically). If i use the wash function there is only a dribble of water. I was just wondering it its possible the fuse has gone or should i just replace the washer motor and be done with? If it makes any difference my front right headlamp washer is not there atm, due to be replaced soon. If i use that it just pumps water all over the road with none going to the other headlamp washer.
  25. Hi, first post here. Can't help with the tyre dilema but can I suggest you replace the rear tyres? Its been found having 3mm of depth increases the chance of aquaplanning significantly. http://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/2008/5/12/tyre-management-don-t-wait-for-tyres-to-get-to-minimum-tread-depth/27787/ Give it a google search, theres some damming evidence. Even a set of 'budget' tyres for the rear would probably give you better wet weather grip.
