  1. After posting my message above I found this in the comments on the first page of Briskoda, hmmmmm:

Let's see... Brimma in the Yeti forum? **** stirring? :o)

I'm still not sure how it started. Correct me if I'm wrong but is it because a mod moved a thread to a more relevant section, somewhere outside the Yeti section where people couldn't find it?

Might have been, then a number of dummies got thrown out of prams, and Bob's your uncle

  2. Staff are simply tidying the forum as if you look at the 1st page, how many if those removed ARE Yeti specific? No one have BT or car taxing issues unless they.own a Yeti?

Sorry if this doesn't sit well, but the purpose of model specific forums isn't for general chit chat and never has been. The Yeti forum is no exception to this long standing design.

gadgetman says he is sorry it it doesn´t sit well?

Well I am too, my reason for beeing in here has been to learn about all things Yeti AND the general Yeti chit chat.

This forum used to be fun, its not anymore, at least for me.

I have never used the other parts of the Briskoda forum, when I log I go directly to the Yetipart.

Its not because I do not like Octavias, Fabias and so on, my interest has been the Yeti and Yeti related stuff,

very much including Yeti chit chat. I really love to read the good advice and the funny stories, more often than not

    in the same post.........

People like The Plumber and others has been very important to my life here on the forum, when they leave

its not fun anymore, life is more important than beeing über serious all the time.

I have tonight removed the Briskoda sticker from my Yeti, I will also ask to have my name removed

    from the Freedom members list.

The way this forum is beeing moderated now remainds me of how some countrys in other parts of the world

are run, ways that I do not like too much..........

It has been nice to know you all, thanks for the ride.

    cheers

    otto

  3. Just been playing round with the car configuration on the Skoda website.

A fully loaded Yeti 140 TDI DSG is 29950! Wow.

Well, if you do the same exercise at a Norwegian Skodadealer web the sum ends up something like £58632.

Hmmm some will say we are underpayd and overpriced................

Still I think the Yeti is worth every penny :-)

  4. If you could talk with the Yeti design team what would you ask them to change?

Its not much on my list but I really hate the way the console between the front seats are placed. Whenever I fold the rear seats

for carrying more luggage the midlle seat hits the console so that the ashtray and bottle drawer opens. They need to fix that detail.

Also I would like them to fix the way the Columbus stereo handles files. Strange that files (songs) on the memorycard are deleted

from the card witout any warning.

But dont misunderstand, I really love the snow monster.

  5. Wow........ I'm astonished. And just a tick in a box and wham your Porsche arrives with this towbar. Now struggling with incompetent dealers not being able to code it and this and that... For LESS than what I paid for my removable one (that had to be coded by a third party). Honestly SUK you should get your act in gear.

    Agreed!!

Opel Insignia (or Vauxhall if you like) has a similar system, but manual. You will have to go on your knees and grab the towbar

and click it in the tow position. Very easy and fast, you do not have to mount anything, and its made by the same company that

makes the Skoda (VAG) bars .........................

It costs less than the removable Skoda towbar .

  6. How would I set about getting a Yeti coded so that the cornering foglights are disabled? They are potentially open to dangerous misinterpretation.

Do not really understand, why are they dangerous?

I really like the cornering lights.

  7. have a look at this posting about the test in Sweeden.

The Yeti won with 61 points the Kia came 5.th with 53 points.

This is one of the toughest tests in Europe, based on one week with the cars,

tested on racetrack and offroad tracks, and on all sorts of roads, tarmac, gravel and so on.

I have a friend who has a Kia and he has been " bragging" :-) about the car for a year, so

I let him have my Yeti for a weekend trip og ca 600 kms up into the mountains, first about

150 kms of very good tarmac mototrway and then som narrow tarmac with lots of curves,

and lastly a long strech of really worn out gravel roads.

He still thinks the Kia is a good car, but he has signed up for a new Yeti to be delivered

    sometime next spring. :-)

His only real complaint about the Yeti is that he could use more space for luggage.

    Oh well.......

    Swedish test

  8. Thanks rockhopper.

Everyone should have a look at the videos, they describe exactly what we learn here in Norway,

all season tyres are not really fit for winter use. They provide a very false feeling of security,

while in fact they are almost just as bad as summertires on snow and ice.

I used all seasons on an Land Rover years ago, but after a month of snow I had to change

to "proper" wintertyres to avoid a coming heart attack. Too scary to drive on those, at least here

    in Norway in the winter.

    :whew:

  9. Thanks for that telecaster! I find your comments most reassuring. What sort of tyres do you use in those extreme conditions, please?

I use Continental Contact 5 215/60 R 16 99 on ALU rims based on advice from my local Skoda dealer.

Mind you that the rubber for Nordic winter tyres are different from those used on continental tyres

due to us having 20-30C below freezing point frequently, so other types may fit your coditions better.

  10. And completely and utterly off the thread topic  ..........just wondered how far you were going. Got up to Nordkapp & Honningsvag a few years ago. Even swam across the Arctic Circle. Mind you I'm never ever going again in summer. The mozzies are just too much.

Going to Tromsø, the town I was born in.

A perfect town for Yetis in the winter, steep hills, very slippery icy roads.

My reason for buying a Yeti is very simple, I rented one last winter for a week visiting Tromsø, really awful weather and the car is by

far the best 4x4 I have driven in those conditions, and I have been driving 4x4s the last 40 years

    :)

The family was impressed too, my two boys are 192 and 195 cm long, and they had more than enough space in the rear

seats, very comfortable, they liked it better than my old Range Rover, and much better than the 3 defenders I have own.

    A perfect car for Norway.

  11. I was about to ask if you were being a bit premature, then saw your location. :D

I reckon mine'll go on in November most likely.

Anyways, thanks for all the advice chaps. I have acquired a torque wrench, a breaker bar and a 1/2" socket set. The tool-joy overtook me.

Well you are not too wrong, here in Oslo they will not be needed for another month or two,

but I am off to a +4000 km trip to Nothern Norway, far north of the Artic Circle where I most

certanly will find snow on the roads.

And for your last statement, I do whole heartly agree, the joy of good tools are under estimated,

you can´t have too many tools, have you ever heard about a library with too many books?

  12. Is your Yeti a 4x4 model or have ESP as an option?

Sounds like the HBA system doing its job to me. So it isn't a problem just a feature of the car.

I presume you are stationary when the brake pedal goes all the way down?

Mine does the same too, but only when its stationary, so I guess you're right, its a feature not a bug.

  13. While I'm on, how do you get the photo to come up in the email?

By rightclicking on the photo in imageshack(where you had placed it first) to get the webadress for it,

and then clicking Insert Image button in the post editor (where you write your post)

Its the button secon to the right from the Smiley face button.

Then you just paste the webadress into the picture insert , and hey presto, its in your mail.

Its much easier to do than to explain, just try it out and you will see.

    cheers

  14. Hi Otto emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Check this out ..........Installing a Sat-Nav in a Skoda Yeti

It might give you an idea or two...........Hope it helps.........Tony

Yeah, thanks I have already bookmarked the website a while ago, you have done a very good job, both in mounting and the best part:

a very good documention, a must see for every Yetiowner without factory navigation installed.

But since I already have the Columbus satnav I was looking for an easy way to mount the iPhone as addition, I am still in the

"wondering what to do" box, we´ll see.

Thanks anyway for the good work and the headsup!

    cheers

    otto

  15. Or even the Tom Tom car kit.

I have used Brodit mounts in the past. They are very good. To be honest, I have not bothered with a mount for my iPhone, as I also have the Columbus for satnav, and all the functions of the phone are also available through the Columbus & maxidot. I have a griffin iPhone charger if I need to charge the phone when in the car and just have it loose. As I don't speed, I never remember to use my speed camera database by pocketgpsworld either.

The columbus wil only show the speed for the road its it knows it.

As for travelling at the actual speed, the satnav is ONLY accurate if you are on a flat road travelling in a straight line at a constant speed. In other words, rarely, in the UK at least. This has been covered in great detail on pocketgpsworld.com many, many times.

    Mike

Yea, you are right , and thats the way I normally connect my iPhone as well,

but as I am to embark on a new 5000 km journey to far nort of the Artic Circle in a few

days on new winter tyres I had this (maybe not so bright ) idea that I should use my

iPhone as a GPS along the Columbus installed in the Yeti. Then I could read my actual speed.

But after thinking about it for a few days I guess a new mount is just a waste of money.

    :dull:

  16. I've driven on winter tyres a number of times, mainly in Canada and the Czech Republic, in temperatures as low as -16C, and they do indeed work very well.

But given the infrequency and nature of heavy snow fall in this part of the UK I struggle to justify spending £1,000 on a set of winter tyres and wheels for a car that I'll keep for 3 years - especially as the daytime temperatures rarely drop below freezing.

The Autosocks cost me £50, and so far have never left me stranded, in either my Mazda or my Wife's Yeti.

The Autososcks was invented here in Norway, by a guy who lives just around the bend and up the hill from where I live. The story is that he had this big English Lady who he loved more than anything else, but she hated Norwegian winterroads, or rather ; hills, so he invented the socks in order to bring her home.

Her name was by the way: Jaguar and she was born in the early 60's. The Jag could not use snowchains so he had to find something else.

I do not know if its true or just a nice story.:giggle:

Anyway, the last few years the Autosocks have been very much refined and the current versions are much better than the earlier, but still this is an emergancy thing, not for usual roaduse.

One thing is to get out of a snow drift in very slow speed, another thing is to drive, to corner, to brake when driving 50 miles an hour, then you need proper winter tyres.
