  1. If my shoes have holes in their soles then I don't go walking in the rain!

Well, I guess its more a question of do you go hiking in the wood on stiletto heels?

The Yeti is a 4x4 on road car with some offroad capability, if you run it on fat

wide tarmac tyres you would not expext any offroad handling.............

My old Land Rover Defender was no good in the terrain with the tyres I had,

while my fellow members in the offroad club could climb mountains with theirs.

So the wheels make all the difference.

  2. I took James from Allams out in Elsie the Helipad today so he could see the difference a quality remap from Shark makes to the CR140. There is just no let up in torque and power up to the redline....sit there at 3000rpm for example in 3rd at 30mph and press the accelerator and off it goes right round to the redline, just like a petrol. Smooth power delivery and all the torque and more than you need at the bottom end. 30mph in 5th? No problem. So I have the benefits of a diesel and a petrol.....emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

    Love it emoticon-0115-inlove.gif

I more and amore feel that I need to take my Yeti for a UK trip and get the Shark treatment :-)

I talked to my dealer today as I collected my winter wheels and he replied to my question about

tuning that as a private person he would do it himself, but if he were to put his dealer hat on

he had to warn me about loosing the warranty. In Norway we have 5 years warranty so it will be

    a long wait........

I think I have to start saving up a repair fund and just ditch the warranty

  3. Yes it makes sense and I like that feature too...

And as to the last statement:  I don't care about breakeven points and lifecycle cost. I prefer a diesel. Just like I bought a Yeti over a VW Scirocco or any other reason I care to mention. It is just one of those things. I'll never ever buy a red car (on safety grounds) and prefer a diesel in my workhorse. :giggle:

I totally agree with you Johann, after getting used to the diesel torque,

lots of power from low revs, its really hard to adjust to a petrol engine again,

even if it has much more HP.

    :-)

  4. I drive mine around South London every day emoticon-0106-crying.gif, but I still average more than Johann emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

So maybe not heavy traffic but a heavy right foot?

The missus does not drive as fast as I use to do, but she uses a lot more diesel :giggle: due to a heavy right foot !

She brakes a lot more than I do too :D

  5. See my signature. I can only dream of an AVERAGE of 46,4mpg... and having spoken to Lee his average is about 32 mpg which is not far off mine. Yet I have to fork out more money for every litre of diesel I put in.........

BUT in saying that I do not want a manual 1,8 TSI. No thanks. I'll consider it if they make a DSG.

My Yeti was bought last week of June, I have just now 8223 kms on the speedo (ca 5000 miles)

and my average diesel is 7 liters pr 100 km just over 40 miles pr. imp. gallon.

The Maxidot says 6.7 liters pr 100 km so its a bit nicer than actual numbers from the speedo

and litres from the diesel pump.

I am usually driving hard and fast, with the aircon on, around 100 to 110 km/h on the motorways,

mostly with only two persons in the car.

the lowest average for one single day was this summer when we wnt to my sisters farm in Nothern Norway

on gravel roads and an average speed of around 60 km/h. We went 112 km that day in 28 degrees Celcius,

a really nice summer day and the average diesel used was 5.1 L pr 100 km on the maxidot. 55 miles/gallon

    (I have a picture to proove it :-) )

I wonder if Johanns reported average of mid 30´s is because you mostly drive in slow and heavy traffic?

  6. Just come from a Seat Leon Tfsi DSg-200bhp (with a 4 pot alloy brake conversion with big rotors)of VAg's parts bin wrapped in a Spanish overcoat to my first ever diesel. So far so good. What it lacks in outright rush is more than compensated for by real comfort, a great view and lovely, surging, creamy torque. My journey times are comparable (over 6k miles since march) my fuel consumption is more than a third better and my stress levels much less. My licence is in less danger and I look forward to driving my yeti where it used to be just a means to an end.

I may even be a better driver as the Yeti favours long view ahead style planned progress rather than scorching up to the next block of traffic then storming past.

I am a convert and am musing on a 170 with the velux roof for a birthday present to myself.

    +1

    :-)

  7. Please excuse my ignorance, but can one of you gentlemen

explain the technical difference between DMF and SMF?

Why is one better (or worse) than the other?

I really do not understand the difference

    cheers

    otto

  8. My Yeti is to go to the dealer tomorrow to have the Skoda original fender flares mounted

as the missus wanted a more offroad look. We got the car in last week of June but the

    flares were in backorder then.

BUT, as I have seen on a lot of other posts the parking assistant and fender flares is

not a good mix, have I paid for something that cant be delivered? Got the flares included

in the price for the new car.

I wonder if I still should have the flares mounted as I cannot see any reason to use

the assistant, its only there because this is a Yeti with all possible options, and I could

not stand waiting 6-7 months for one with "my" specs?

Or can the flares be "tuned" to fit a car with the assistant?

    Any thoughts?

    cheers

    Otto

  9. The Skoda website manual: Skoda motoroil how to

    states:

The engine of your vehicle has been factory-filled with a high-grade oil which you can use throughout the year - except in extreme climatic regions.

You can mix various oils together with each other when refilling with oil. This does not, however, apply for models with flexible service intervals (QG1).

Engine oils are, of course, undergoing continuous further development. Thus the information stated in this Owner's Manual is only correct at the time of publication.

Škoda Service Partners are informed by Škoda Auto a.s. about current changes. This why you should always have engine oil changed by your Škoda Service Partner.

The specifications (VW standards) stated in the following must be indicated separately or together with other specifications on the bottle.

And goes on to describe the different service options, have a look !

    cheers

  10. IIRC there was a thread ages ago about this and the sensor but I cannot remember if anyone actually found the beast.

TP where are you? Any clues from the oracle that is the parts manual?

    From the Skoda website:

If the automatic light control* is switched on, the light is regulated with the light sensor in the rear mirror holder. If the light intensity drops below the set value, e.g when driving during the day into a tunnel, the low beam and the side lights as well as the licence plate light come on automatically. If the light intensity increases again, the lights switch off automatically.

    look here:

  11. People who want to tell the world that they have have ordered a Yeti, or tell the world they have got a got a Yeti (usually rendered as 'taken delivery of), or have named a Yet. I don't hate them. I just think they are sad.

    FFS sake. Get a life.

Spotted here, er, in my driveway on the downs in West Berkshire, a Yeti.

Got it yesterday, ex-demo 1.4 TSI SE.

Had wonderful value from civinfo.com, the UK Honda civic forum and now, having part-exchanged the Civic yesterday to part-fund the Skoda, am looking forward to meeting people here, picking brains and, you never know, maybe contributing a little too.

    With best wishes to all.

    KevinF.

    Hi Kevin!

Just above my reply is a copy of your first message, what went wrong between your first and last post?

This is by nature a geek-forum, or a forum for anoracks as you British would say, thats why we love it

and keep coming back. Your first post suggested you were one of us, your last post (copy uppermost)

tells me that you have not got it at all................

Have a look around, enjoy the wealth of info here, enjoy the good mood and sometimes hilarious

    comments and enjoy life!

Welcome back and Get a life yourself, thank you :-)

    Cheers and best regards

  13. Hi all - just placed my order for a 140 hp TDI elegance in Candy white and specified March delivery. so now the long wait begins..... Hope i have made a good choice

    Hi!

Oh yes, thats the right choice indeed!

I went to the Skoda dealer in order to buy a Candy White, but as you discovered I had to wait for 6-7 months,

so when the Platin grey suddenly became available I bought it.

The color has grown on me, so now I do like it, but I still think that the white one is better looking. :)

  14. Thank you telecaster, I'm not sure what to do with the code, but thank you all the same. emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Well I guess you are quite right, (unless I was to sell my Yeti to you?) :giggle:

but can I be so free that I can point to the link in the end of the post,

then you can find out abouth whats inside your monster.

    Cheers

  15. pure madness! but I bet a 17 year old can insure a car for less than here!

It looks like a tank would be the best vehicle there, at least when you consider the way they drive.

    Crazy !!!

  17. Ah.. That explains it. You did not say that in the opening post. Now it makes sense.

you´ll have to be kind with me, English is not my native language, I speak Norwegian

    and that means that sometimes I miss whats written between the lines, or rather;

its hard for me to write between the lines, so I ask for forgivness when my message

is not as clear as it should have been :D

That said, I truly love English, read a lot, see a lot of TV series and my favorite

comedians are the Monty Phyton gang and Billy Connolly!!

  18. I also find this a bit weird... The XC60 is definitely from a class above in terms of price. That the Yeti still won is lovely of course, but it is weird the cars they threw together. Why test such wildly different engines in the Kia/Hyundai? Or indeed have the XC60 there? Most people have a budget when they buy and don't shop willy nilly from £20,000 to near £40,000... And the £40,000 is perhaps why the Q5 is not here as it is a bit more expensive than the XC60 I suspect.

The ten 4x4s tested are the bestselling 10 in Sweeden, they just took the list, ordered the top 10 cars on the list and tested them.

    That explaines the selection.

Personally I do not like the Volvo XC60 at all!

I have owned a XC70 which I liked, a XC90 which I really hated and rented a XC60 for a couple of weeks in snowy weather in Nothern Norway,

no good at all. The testers were not very impressed with the handling, sort of ok on tarmac, close to a dead donkey on all other roads :-)

  19. I think this is a case of love. If you look back in history some cars are loved others are not, ie. Renault 4, Mini, VW Campervan and the Golf are loved. I also cannot see how a Yeti can be better than a Tiguan but I can see the Yeti is more lovable... :)

you might be right, but the test state that the Yeti handled much better og gravel- and on rough roads, and that it was like a gokart on curvy tarmac roads,

mind you the testers themselves were surprised, they write that they were somewhat indifferent to the Yeti, none of them had driven it before an they did not know anything

about it, but during the week the test lasted the grew to the car and in the end it was affection, so I guess youe are right; LOVE

    cheers

    otto

  20. Otto,

Har du en adresse på en hjemmeside for testen??

    Hei

De legger desverre ikke ut artikler på websiden, men du kan bestille magasinet herifra:

    4wheeldrive magazine homepage

sorry for suddely speaking Norwegian here, I was saying to my Swedish and Danish

friends that the magazine does not put its tests on a webpage, so if you want

to read the test you can order the printed magazine from the adress over.

Mind you its written in Swedish so it will be Greek to anyone not from Scandinavia :-)
