  2. you´ll have to be kind with me, English is not my native language, I speak Norwegian and that means that sometimes I miss whats written between the lines, or rather; its hard for me to write between the lines, so I ask for forgivness when my message is not as clear as it should have been That said, I truly love English, read a lot, see a lot of TV series and my favorite comedians are the Monty Phyton gang and Billy Connolly!!
  3. The ten 4x4s tested are the bestselling 10 in Sweeden, they just took the list, ordered the top 10 cars on the list and tested them. That explaines the selection. Personally I do not like the Volvo XC60 at all! I have owned a XC70 which I liked, a XC90 which I really hated and rented a XC60 for a couple of weeks in snowy weather in Nothern Norway, no good at all. The testers were not very impressed with the handling, sort of ok on tarmac, close to a dead donkey on all other roads :-)
  4. you might be right, but the test state that the Yeti handled much better og gravel- and on rough roads, and that it was like a gokart on curvy tarmac roads, mind you the testers themselves were surprised, they write that they were somewhat indifferent to the Yeti, none of them had driven it before an they did not know anything about it, but during the week the test lasted the grew to the car and in the end it was affection, so I guess youe are right; LOVE cheers otto
  5. Hei De legger desverre ikke ut artikler på websiden, men du kan bestille magasinet herifra: 4wheeldrive magazine homepage sorry for suddely speaking Norwegian here, I was saying to my Swedish and Danish friends that the magazine does not put its tests on a webpage, so if you want to read the test you can order the printed magazine from the adress over. Mind you its written in Swedish so it will be Greek to anyone not from Scandinavia :-)
  6. Bare hyggelig, håper du finner magasinet! Ha en fin dag videre ! :-)
  7. I guess you could say they are cusins, noth twins :-) Tiguan length: 443 cm, width: 181 cm, height: 169 cm, distance between front/rear wheels: 260cm weight: 1670 kg Yeti length: 422 cm, width: 195 cm, height: 169 cm, distance between front/rear wheels: 257cm weight: 1560 kg
  8. The Yeti covered the whole track, as I understand from the text the Subaru Forrester were very close, but the other 8 had no chance at all and in order to not damage the cars they had to be withdrawn from the track. But in all fearness, none of this cars are offroad vehicles, still it seems like they were really impressed with the Yetis handling in all situations, gravel, tarmac and offroad.
  9. The two tested cars were very different in specs: Kia Sportage 1.968cc 16V 136 HP 319 nm 6 speed auto gearbox, 225/60-17 tyres weight 1600 kg Hyudai ix35 1,995cc 16V 184 HP 392 nm 6 speed auto gearbox, 225/55-18 tyres weight 1676 kg
  10. VW Tiguan 2.0 litre 140 HP 320 nm 6 speed manual gearbox Skoda Yeti 2.0L 140 HP 320 nm DSG
  11. The Sweedish magazine "4WheelDrive" has in the big summer double issue (no #7-8 2011) a test of 10 popular 4x4s and our beloved snow monster is the clear winner! The cars tested are: Volvo XC60, Nissan Qashqai, VW Tiguan, Kia Sportage, Honda CR-V, Hyundai ix35, Ford Kuga, BMW X1, Subaru Forester and a Yeti with 140 HP DSG. Much to the amused surprise of the testers the Skoda Yeti became a favorite among them, both on and offroad. The Yeti got 61 points, a very clear winner over the second place holder on 58 points. :-) The ranking: 1 Skoda Yeti 61 2 Hyundai ix35 58 3 Subaru Forester 57 4 VW Tiguan 56 5 Kia Sportage 53 6 Nissan Qashqai 52 7 Volvo XC60 51 and 7 BMW X1 51 9 Ford Kuga 48 10 Honda CR-V 45 Thats a stunning 16 points lower than the Yeti !!!!! The test is very large, goes over many days and covers 25 pages in the magazine. They do a 170 km long fuel consumption test on tarmac roads, they do a speed test on a racingtrack, where they also test the ability to drive thru a slalom course and do a brake test as well, they have a gravel test track and also a true offroadtrack which only one car managed to drive thru the whole track, guess which ? :-) In the conclusion they say that the Yeti was not at all a favorite when the testweek started, rather a dull ugly duckling, but as the days and tests went on the 12 man strong testteam came to love the strange creature. It felt like a gokart on curvy tarmac roads, it sat as glued on gravelroads, it was the only car in the test that could do the whole offroad course, not bad for a car that is not an offroad vehicle! It was fast and funny they say (something we all know ) cheers otto
  12. Well it seems like I was wrong, very wrong I have two SD cards and when I did a test on card no.2 it had lost a lot of files, just like others have reported. The big difference between the cards is that card no.1 has a little switch to lock it, then even the Mighty Snowman cant erase any files.........
  13. macdemon, you English are really funny, everyone knows that the steering wheel on the left side is the right side cheers otto
  14. The SDcard option on my Yeti seems to work flawlessly, I have converted to MP3 on my Mac with a free(shareware) program called MAX, the same program I use to make FLAC files for my squeezeboxserver on a miniMac. The Columbus stereo/navi seems to like 256 better than 320 and I am not able to hear the difference in quality even with the biggest speaker set. :-) I have completely filled a 32G card and have not lost any files, or had any problems wiht any files. I have also transfered around 17G MP3s to the harddisc, works ok, but took a looong time to transfer. But I have another issue with the system; I got both the cable for iPod and tha cable for USB, and the stereo do really struggle with MP3s on memorysticks, will not play every file, and stops frequently half way thru a song? I have not been able to find out why, have tried small 1Gig sticks and big 64Gig sticks, same problem. Any suggestions? cheers Otto
  15. I mailed Shark today about tuning my Yeti (140 HP 4x4 DSG) and got a really fast reply telling me that they were sorry but had no other option for the car than me bringing it to them. The new Shark Performance Self Tuning System does not fit the Yetis. :-( Sad since I live in Norway and it is not an option to take the car to England now. The only other option I have been ableto find is the German RaceChip RaceChip for Yeti I have seen a couple of Yeti owners here on Briskoda using this chip. Hmmm...... Is it a as good as the Shark tuning ? It is supposed to be an easy fit anyway, I do not look foreward to dig too deep into the electrics in the Yeti myself, thats Black Art to me :-) .
  16. Thanks Mike, great help! In Norway the 170 is not yet available, I guess for tax reasons, as the goverment is making us pay a lot of cash pr HP........ I see that the gearbox should be able to take up to 450 nm, my local Skoda dealer said 360, is he wrong or is there more than one type of DSGboxes on the market? Seems like he is shouting warning calls :-) Anyway, thanks again, I found the two threads with really interesting reading, so I will be posting more questions there. cheers otto
  17. I have a fairly new (last week of June2011) 140 HP Yeti 4WD with the DSG gearbox and wonder if I should remap or chiptune (dont really understand the difference) in order to get a bit more effect out of the engine. As I understand the 140 HP has 320 nm torque and the limit for the DSG box is 360? so it might be dangerous or have I missed something here? How much torque does the 170 HP petrol engine provide in a Yeti with DSG gearbox? Would be happy if anybody could cast a little light on this issue, and also give a little advice on what to do. :-) cheers Otto
  18. hi scoutabout Nice car in your signature, what is it? A Landbox scouter? cheers otto
  19. Hi Put on a big grin and count down the days until you get the Yeti! Have had mine for 7 weeks now and is extremely happy with it! cheers otto
  20. Hi! Bought my Yeti brand new the last week of June and have driven more than 6500 km´s since, the first trip was a 4000 km trip T/R from Oslo to Tromsø, far north of the Artic Circle. So far I am extremely happy with the car, fast, funny and really cheap on fuel. My average since the car was new (step 2 on the computer) is 5.9L pr 100km, which is close to 40 miles per gallon. I bought this one since I was in a hurry as my old car was not repairable due to a crash, and I could not wait 5-6 months on one built on my specifications. So I "had" to take one the dealer had gotten in the same day from the factory, with every (yes vitually every) option in the catalogue. If I had been able to choose I would not have bought the parking assistant and the sunroof, possible not the leather seats and maybe not the biggest stereo/navigation pack, but now after 7 weeks I have totally changed my mind and are very happy with the seats, sunroof and navigation, can still live without the parking assistant. :-) The only problem we have had so far is that the Bluetooth suddenly stopped working so now I can not connect my iPhone to the handsfree on the Yeti. Oh well, just a minor thing that the dealer will easily fix I guess. My last car was a 2009 SAAB 93 Aero Sportwagon, this Yeti is just as good on the roads which is a big surprise. I am used to SUVs, have owned LandRovers, Chevy and Toyotas, this is by far the best SUV I have driven. Well thats all for now, I will keep you posted about the life in a Yeti in Norway, I just cant wait until it starts snowing here :-)
