Sounds like you've interrupted a regen cycle - nothing to worry about unless, you only ever do short trips and don't let it complete -you'll get a light on the dash if that happens. See this thread:

There's a black plastic thing on either side with some fairly chunky looking wiring -it isn't easy to see if it is a solenoid or some sort of pyrotechnic plunger -if activated it probably mangles the bonnet or hinges or both. 
 
I'll scan my handbook if I can't find one on-line covering the relevant section: There is some information about NOT using number plate holders

There is a way to adjust the aux volume -If I remember correctly you press and hold the right hand knob and it's in one of the menus that comes up
