  1. 4 years seems very short. My Citroen was every 180,000km. And I had nothing but trouble when a back-street cowboy changed it. So either don't bother (could be dangerous) - or use a main dealer.
  2. Arrived safely in England, although I would have happily driven another 5 hours so we could finish listening to the Hunger Games audio book

  3. Any use Audible? How can I get rid of the DRM and convert AA files to MP3 so I can actually listen to them? And why is it so much easier just to download files illegally?

  4. a leather handbag, a Thomas Sabo ring case and 28 bottles of Gorbachov vodka - all empty unfortunately

  5. 2: This would work - except the photo is hosted on Google+ and uses https, which this forum doesn't seem to like. 1: I think stratosg got it right - only I will notice. So here's my solution - try to get another one on the other side to match!
  6. What a beautiful day - well it was before I cycled 48km, including 860m climbs. Now stiff

Just over 30 miles, I do 25 mile a day 17% hills just going to work, now a 75 mile ride is a proper ride!

  7. just smashed Yvonne Kure's navi by demonstrating how to raise and lower the seats in a Mini! Ooops!

  8. After 6500km with my "new Greenline II estate", the only damage so far is a scratch on the plastic spoiler/trim near the front fog light. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-HpDWf_JSKKc/T25HhCG1JMI/AAAAAAAAC4I/IC5Tf__Gz0k/w532-h399-k/2012%2B-%2B1 Any ideas on how to treat it? And any ideas on how to post images in this forum?
  9. Actually it was already clear to me - now it's crystal. Thanks again!
  10. Thanks celulari - that's a clever solution. But don't you need wipers in Chile?
  11. OK - so it was only me that found it interesting! But I couldn't find any figures on wheel of tyre weights - and I'm sure they must make a difference to handling and fuel consumption...
  12. I changed to summer tyres today and took the opportunity to check the weight of my wheels. I'm sure some of you will be interested! (Only here!) Antares Alloy 6x15 with new Dunlop SP01 185/60R15 tyres - as supplied 15.4kg each Enzo B Alloy 6x15 with Continental WinterContact TS800 185/60R15 86T - after 5000km - 15.45kg front, but 15.75kg rear! (http://www.enzo-wheels.com/506_EN.htm?webdid=490) So the front tyres have lost an additional 300g after 5000km. That sounds like a lot to me. Although they had both lost the Enzo badge - that couldn't weigh more than a few grammes. Any thoughts?
  13. Is back in a country where Facebook access is too free and easy

  14. has to tunnel under the Great Firewall to access Facebook...

  15. just hacked the Great Firewall to access Facebook!

  16. OK - thanks for the confirmation. Still think it's mad! So, can anyone tell me where to break into a 12V line that IS switched? - Preferably near the dashboard to make a tidy way of hard-wiring a TomTom.
  17. Really annoying this, isn't it? I've got a TomTom that turns itself on and off when power is applied via the 12V socket. I've never had a car that kept the 12V sockets live after the keys had been withdrawn and the doors locked. Sounds a bit dangerous to me for all sorts of reasons - flat battery being the least of them. Is there really no way to change this functionality somewhere in the car's firmware?
  18. Winter tyres are supposed to give better performance than summer tyres when the temperature is below 7C. So I would keep them on until the average temperatures (max+min)/2 are forecast to be above that for the foreseeable future and there's no chance of snow/ice. That's not yet here in Germany. Traditionally they fit winter tyres between October and Easter - which is pretty silly, given it can be >20C at either end of that range.
  19. My knee doesn't click when I walk upstairs today!

  20. Could it just be because it's now winter? - my diesels have always been noisier when cold.
  21. The night I wore my wolf suit and made mischief of once kind and another,

  22. According to the ship's computer my Greenline II was only getting 58mpg (4.9L/100km) last night at 70mph (112km/h) on a fairly flat and quiet autobahn. I don't think that's right - even at night in the cold (-4C) with winter tyres. And the computer has been spot on so far, compared to manual calculations based on brim-to-brim tanking. It's done 3500km now - I think it should be much better than that. Any thoughts?
  23. What do you mean "small alloys"? My Greenline II came with 185/60R15s - they are the biggest tyres I've ever had! I would have happily chosen a smaller wheel size and narrower tyres - especially for winter, but that is verbotten here - the only choice is 185/55R15 if you want snow chains (which I don't) - or 185/60R15 without. I'll check out the mpg at 70mph next time I get the chance. I think it drops quickly at higher speeds. And my car still seems to drink diesel, compared to the 1.4HDi's I've had from Citroen & Peugeot. :(
  24. My lovely old Citroen C3 had a digital speedo. It was impossible to get it to read any speed between 0 and 6 km/h. It read 5km/h over the GPS at all speeds.
  25. I foolishly brought my British DAB radio to Germany when I moved here 4 years ago. At first I could only get a handful of crap stations on it. Now things have improved - I can't get any now!
