  1. That's because each dealer has an allocation of build spaces I believe.

Sounds like the local dealer had less, or had already used the closer dated ones up.

It also didn't help when the dealership involved had a totally take it or leave it attitude- with no deal either end of the valuations for the SM or for my current car.

Quote, " I can probably sell them for more than list"

So unsurprisingly I decided to walk away.

  2. Just had the confirm build date for my SM as week 11 after ordering it week 45 last year

I ordered mine through DTD with Hayselden Skoda Doncaster--who seem very good and are no problem when I ring them about updates on the progress of my order.

If it gets delivered say 3 weeks after that date, that will mean about a 5 month wait which is a lot better than the local Skoda dealer was quoting at the time I ordered it---they were saying about another 2 months on top of that :o

Can't wait to get it --although if the forecast for the weekend is right, I could do with it now! :D

  3. Last year I purchased a ceramic heater in Maplins that plugs into the cigarette lighter to help defrost the windscreen. It's not by any means perfect and you won't be blown away (no pun intended) by its efficiency but it's certainly quicker than waiting for the Yeti's heater to clear the windscreen. I mounted it on one of those non slip sat nav dash mats as I didn't fancy drilling holes in my dash.

Is there any risk of heating up the glass too quickly and inducing thermal shock to the glass causing it to crack

I'm thinking of the people who misguidedly pour hot water from a kettle onto the windscreen :S

  4. This whole DPF thing will become more prevalent as the cars fitted with them get older and the repair/replacement of them becomes an uneconomic necessity.

As I understand it the DPF merely filters out the soot emissions, at start up in particular- no pun intended

During a MOT the tester will only test for emissions which are controlled by the CAT-- the issue is will the tester have a duty in future to examine the vehicle and if he DPF is not present, be obliged to fail the car?

As things stand if the emissions are passed he/she will not examine the car further--in fact if all the on-line advice is correct, how on earth can they determine in a practical sense, whether the device, although apparently attached to the car is in fact not doing anything?

  5. I'm a bit anal about windscreen cleanliness and wipe the bits the wipers can't reach.

I have no problem with the system spraying the headlights every fifth time,it's the fact that they spray on the first that gets me, when I'm just being perfectionist about my windscreen!!;)

You can get pills for that! :D

  6. I ordered my 110SE 4x4 on 9/11/11 and was given a build date of week 5

I rang the dealer 2 weeks ago and was told the build date had been pushed back to week 9 by the factory.

The dates are fairly fluid until the factory issues a T20 code [or similar ,I can't remember exactly]

When the car is made , another code is issued.

    Shipped another code etc etc.

Does anyone know about this system?

When did you order yours and when are you promised your car at the moment , if you don't mind me asking?

If you see mine on the boat--it's in aqua blue! :)

  7. In my experience anyway the manufacturers will try and avoid any responsibility stating the failure is a result of normal wear and tear etc when the car gets more than 2 years old

I presently have a Citroen[i know!] and the only warranty issue I have had in two and a half years was a suspension bush which is a known design issue with that model. I had to argue vociferously to have it repaired under warranty.

The garage said it was probably caused by all the bumpy roads as I live out in the sticks---cue to bite my lip- like the urban roads are all in a perfect state of repair.

I have come round to thinking, if you have to pay for it in any event, you are better off with a third party warranty- at least with that you have less chance of them trying to wriggle out of it

  8. The main dealer in Newcastle was quoting 7/8 months back in the end of October!

I ordered mine through DTD being supplied by Hayselden Doncaster

I have been given a build date of week 5--- anyone any thoughts when I might get it?

  9. Ah indeed. In my second sentence I state it correctly but in my first sentence I had what was said before in my head! (ie 9 pin! Promise I don't always have nines on the brain!) :giggle:

Yes--where did I get the idea of 9 pins from?

  10. You will still have to wire this into a 13 pin socket, (or 2x 7) If you follow the link in Lowens post below you will see how he fitted the extra bit that is needed to make the whole thing work. If you want to tow/charge a caravan (& run the fridge) you may have to add another bit that does connect into the fuse box and will entail removing some trim etc. BUT...

I had the 'dedicated wiring kit' that the towbar people refered to, it did involve removing trim but it's all back in place with no damage (in fact it's very easy to remove if you know where to start) mine all works perfectly.

One point that is in your favour, I have a 170 cdi which has two fans on the cooling side, (I think the 110 only has one fan)I understand that the tow bar wiring prep does include the extra fan which could be needed if you tow a caravan in hot weather.

Dig around on this forum, there are plenty of people who have fitted their own tow bar (C F Jones in Manchester are about the cheapest suppliers) and anybody with a VAGCOM who knows how to use it shoul be able to code-it.

Why cant you just have 9 pin on its own-- surely--I don't caravan so I don't need the 13 pin. To reiterate the vehicle brochure clearly states that the factory prep gives you only to quote" Provides a single electrics solution.Unsuitable for split charging. (SeeRetailer Accessories for fully functional

    electrics kits solution"

---if you can believe it--it's probably as accurate as the accessory catalogue which gives two different part numbers on the same page for the same thing, apparently--I have emailed Skoda UK and await some clarification. What happened to German/Slavic efficiency?

  11. Very helpful advice --thank you--and I'm now the future owner of a Yeti not a yeyi[ lousy typing]

I emailed the company with my requirements and the reply, thankfully honest, does not inspire confidence----

quote "We do not purchase wiring kits from the dealers the ones we have are full dedicated wiring kit for towbar. We have had many Skoda vehicles in for towbars which are supposed to be prepared for towing and have never yet found any wiring at all in the vehicle.

If you want to buy the wiring kit from the dealer we could fit that one and hopefully our coding machine would still code their kit but until we tried would not know for definate. ( not sure what the cost of their kit is)"

So it seems like my £170 towbar prep was somewhat wasted in regard to the wiring loom installed to the rear of the vehicle

I think now the best way forward is to buy the kit for 9 pin electrics[ which is all the factory prep gives you--if you need 13 pin it's a whole different ball game] It looks like from other forums that towbar companies would find it difficult, nay impossible, to recode the car

I am therefore going down the diy route and then getting a local Skoda dealer to recode the canbus

The only worry I have is the argument from a dealer when they they blame me for some sort of incompetence, when they have any problems recoding.

All the evidence, on here, is there is a lot of incompetence at dealerships re adjusting the ecu settings -- you would think they would have done a lot of these by now--I see plenty of caravans and trailers on the road!

  12. The Yeti accessories catalogue gives 2 different part numbers for single electric harnesses EEA 800 002 EL and EEA 630 002 E4 does anyone know which is the correct one for a Yeti with factory preparation for single electrics

  13. Try these people..

    VEHICLE CODING AVAILABLE!

I realise they on exactly bang on your doorstep, -(though their name indicates they will probably come to you)- but I know they use the correct wiring looms (from www.rightconnections.co uk) and they do have the proper kit to re-code. I suspect they will be considerably cheaper than the Skoda dealer as well. -

If you have a look at the Right Connections web site they explain how it all works etc. I had mine done by one of their distributors (MDS Towbars from Rochdale) he fitted me a swan neck Westfalia bar with 13 pin electrics including caravan/fridge charging etc all properly connected to the fuse box, re-coded to make everthing work as it should do all for £355m inc vat - and he did it at my home. That should be your target figure.

Good luck you will enjoy the Yeti - I certainly do...

  14. My present car is a Citroen, which I purchased new in 2009. I asked about a tow-bar at the time of purchase and paid the dealer up front. The work was contracted out to a local tow-bar company--and the fitter duly arrived with a load of scotchlocks---to my horror-- as I had asked for the proper wiring loom---so he fitted the bar only and after a bit of negotiation with the dealer the wiring harness arrived.

This was then fitted by the contractor who had no recoding equipment for the canbus/ecu etc

So back to the main dealer for that to be done---so far so good

Off on holiday to find that the brake lights don't work

so back to the dealership---a lot of head scratching-- a new wiring harness later and all working great EXCEPT the fitter drove the car in the workshop door stanchion necessitating a new plastic bumper

I would like to avoid all this again and the costs of the Skoda tow bar and labour is a bit excessive---does anyone think a good local company with a VAG Autologic machine will be a better option?
