  1. Now Wednesday, and have done approx 150 miles since collecting the car. All was well until tonight After a short run locally, returned home, switched off in driveway. Opened garage door - restarted and reversed into garage AND once again the glowplug light started continuous flashing. With just 5150 miles on the clock, I wonder if I have a case to reject the car as not being of marketable quality. I will give this one more attempt at the dealers, and will advise them of my total disenchantment with this car. Do you consider three attempts by dealer to rectify the problems as a reasonable time to nail the problem. I believe I have been patient enough
  2. Collected car this morning from dealers - they tell me they have fitted a new turbo. I dont know how much these things cost (does anyone know?) - so am thankful that the car is still under warranty :sun: As I understand it - the sensor that was required comes with the complete turbo assembly. Lets hope that this once and for all cures the recurring intermittent problems I have had. Car just passed the 5000 mile mark this morning.
  3. I would think that the message from the garage wrongly translated G581 to - GS81. (Easily done) I wont bore you with the full story - but details have been reported on this forum previously. Thanks for your help - I will come to the forum again to report on the outcome of this latest 'repair' saga
  4. Just noticed that I quoted 'GS81' - whereas you responded with 'G81'. Have I misquoted the message that the garage left on ans machine? As a point of interest, I tried many sites on the net to get this info, but without success. Can someone direct me to a site where I can get this information. Following a spate of recent warning light problems and getting home in limp mode on several occasions - I need to get a little more clued up on all these sensors, and what they do. Thanks
  5. Many thanks rwbaldwin. Fab TDI's seem to abound in sensors - I had not heard of this one before! Thanks again
  6. Hi Guys garage have phoned to say I need a new GS81 sensor on my 1.6 TDI CR90. Does anyone know what this sensor is - and what it does. I cannot get any info online at the moment. Thanks in advance
  7. Into Dealers today - who commendably put car on diagnosis machine. As expected, a whole raft of errors were showing - so car booked in soon (with loan car supplied) for dealer to spend enough time sorting through this mystery car!!! Their thoughts now include turbo problems etc :wonder:
  8. The man from Skoda Assist came (AKA-RAC). His diagnosis PC showed that the DPF senser was kippered. This he replaced, only to find that the same warning lights were showing and would not go out   . He then tried to adapt the new senser into the system, which I understand is the way to integrate a new part into the ecu and system set up log, and then attempted to clear the log of any fault entries (which according to his PC the car was unable to do.) He then removed the new senser and put back the original item. Therefore the car was still in the state reported earlier in the day. We decided that a visit to my dealer was called for in view of the work that they had done earlier to the ECU wiring. After the chaps departure, I started the car to put back in the garage, and (you've guessed it) all the warning lights went out and all seemed for the moment to be normal. Ah well, back to the dealer tomorrow for the next episode :wonder:
  9. Hold the front page!! more developments since my post earlier today During the day it has moved on to the following - Now, every time the ignition is switched on - the glowplug light continues to flash, and continues when the engine is started. In addition, another warning light has come on, this time the 'yellow engine block' emblem stays on permanantly - car now in limp mode!!!! Have called skoda assist, and will be interested to see the outcome of their visit later.
  10. Have had past engine management problems recently! In the end the ECU was rewired, and all was well. Now another problem which is as follows - Car behaves normally. HOWEVER, occasionally when I turn on the ignition, the glowplug indicator light on dash flashes. If I switch off and retry all is well. This can be the first start of the day OR at any time during the day. Your thoughts appreciated on this one thanks
  11. Recently my Fabia 1.6 TDI CR90 had to go to the dealers. This was because the glow-plug warning indicator would occasionally flash, and the car would go into limp mode. Switching off ignition and restarting would clear the problem temporally. In the end the wiring to the ECU was replaced (at Skoda's direction). Since then all has seemed to be well - with one little quirk, the glow-plug warning light started flashing on just one occasion when the ignition was turned on. An additional 'strange one' occurred yesterday. On returning home, I stopped, and before I turned off the ignition the idle speed had increased by about 200 rpm - when I turned off the ignition I noticed the word BATTERY showing on the LCD display. 1 - I did in fact have something plugged into the 12v supply at the time. (is that the answer?) 2 - Car has 4500 on the clock 3 - It was not entering regen mode (just come back from a 30+ mile journey at speed etc.) It seems to me that Skoda have certain electrical issues currently?? - this is very disappointing in that my previous Fabia 3 pot (09 registration) never gave a moments trouble in the 2+ years of my ownership. Is anyone else experiencing problems of this nature??? regards
  12. Make up your mind!!! I will only use oem, but will use etc - surely a contradiction?? As to brake fade, are you confusing disks with brake pads? - it is usually the pad material that decides when brake fade occurs / against a given heat. Years ago many fitted 'hard linings' in the false belief that this was a good move. You HAVE to generate heat to allow the material to provide the best retardation standards.
  13. I had Continentals on my Fabia 11 1.4TDI - found them to be very noisy also a very hard ride! Now have a Fabia 1.6 SE Plus CR90 which came with SP Sport 01's. These are just as noisy regrettably - but give a much more acceptable ride. As one poster has indicated MICHELIN (although more expensive) is the way to go without doubt. I too am an advocate of swapping front to rear at the opportune moment. By doing this I was able to offset the poor wear factor of the front continental tyres, and get at least some reasonable wear from the original set.
  14. Here Here 1.6 TDI 90 - an ideal choice
  15. My apologies to Delta 925 - don't know what happened or how, but one of your posts has been interfered with and my name and details have been attributed to your post :wonder: :wonder: Apologies once again
  16. My 3 pot was the 80 PS version, with which I was well pleased. However, the 1.6 CR90 is in a different league. Let me try to outline the differences in simple terms. - The new car does not seem to be as 'front heavy' as the previous one was. Perhaps the PD unit is heavier than the CR? In consequence, the ride has improved tremendously. Have Skoda also done a spring revision? - perhaps. My 1.4 was shod with continental's - whereas the new one is on SP Sport. Both these tyre types are road noisy - but the handling has improved tremendously. Even the 'Old Bat' (my wife) has commented on how improved the new car is compared with the 09 reg car. To be honest, the improvement is such that I wonder if the previous car had suspension problems that I was unaware of. With only 850 miles on the clock, we have not reached a 'good' overall fuel consumption yet - however performance wise I am well pleased. I would certainly drive this car intuitively rather than follow the recommended change up change down dash directions. If I describe the earlier cars performance - I would say it was 'fast and furious' (with the 3 pot unwelcome growl) with a pronounced 'take off' spot at certain revs. The new car is both silky in its manner, and exercises greater management across the whole rev range. In consequence it is a more relaxed drive - and yet look at the speedo and I am surprised that without pushing the car I am well over the speed limit! Put me down as a true Skoda Fan
  17. Well - I have had the CR90 TDI for 5/6 weeks now, and my 'reservations' re the DPF seem to be groundless. My much loved first Skoda 1.4 TDI 3 pot never gave a moments trouble (20K when I wrote it off!!) - this 4 pot CR90 is superb, and keeps me a happy skoda owner/driver :)
  18. Of all the comments made here (interesting thread) - the most relevant one to your problem is the comment made about high gearing. When your GF is slowing down - she is 'panic braking' and forcing the road speed below the engine speed (for the gear that she is in). I would think that if she gets into the habit of dropping down a gear, this would ease the situation considerably. Good Luck
  19. Easiest way is to get rid of the girlfriend!! Your on a loser here my friend - once they get the idea that the car is behaving differently to their previous motor, no amount of encouragement or reasoning will convince them that there is not something wrong about the car! The bad news is that people so convinced will not try to adapt their driving (how can it possibly be me that needs to change?? - its the car that is at fault!) As others have stated - this behaviour is quite normal (and is influenced by running and ambient temperatures) Not only is it technologically clever, but it does make good sense. Good luck when you try to convince her that her driving style needs to change
  20. Having just outed my well loved 1.4 TDI PD80 for a 1.6 TDI CR90 I am aware that the PDF system is not without problems? As this is an expensive item, I wonder if we can create a running thread to monitor peoples experiences with this system. I have only done 360 miles since new, and already I have had the high heat and burning smell occur - together with the increased idle speed. Switched off and heard the cooling fan continue for a short period. When restarted the next day, and when running temp was achieved - it seemed to take over where it left off the previous day. Later all returned to normal with the idle speed back to normal. Via a forum I was assured that all was as it should be. I have also read somewhere that Skoda/VW consider the DPF filter outside normal warranty coverage? Does anyone know if this is in fact correct? I think that all users should be very aware of future possible problems and potential expense - so that early notification to Skoda is made sooner rather than later. I may be over reacting here, and need more input (and running experience) - but I feel that the whole issue needs to be monitored to save issues developing later. An ongoing thread could be very useful for the future. So, please share your experiences (Good or bad)and respond to this thread. Look forward to your comments. Cheers-
