  1. Hi,

I am requiring new pads and disks all round (43k on clock) on my fabia VRS. Is it worth upgrading to 320mm disks on the front? and what is the extra costs new?

There is someone that is going to do the work for me and used to work for VW. Do you think it would be straight forward for this person to do the upgrade without messing them about? He will be ordering the parts.

Also insurance do they need to know? and do you think they will care if I did tell them?

    thanks

  2. It look the same a a normal mk2 fabia...how does anyone think it's a vrs?

ha ha I saw someones comments about big brakes from the web site. It has steel wheels on, you can't see the brakes lol. I think they thought the wheel under neath the plastic wheel trim was the brake.

    In that case HUGE brakes!

  3. From what I have seen on 2 pc's is that IE8 is slower than IE7, hangs on loading the home page on initial load, I am forever having to repair the Wireless connection for internet to pass through since I installed IE8.

    MS make bad software/hardware ...fullstop

  4. I have not seen them since the said night, I would like to think that they just wanted to know what I had on it.

I did not have chance to go out and ask them, but to be honest having the choice, I would not have as they were quite un savoury!

Obviously going to keep my eye out for them. I expect a good alarm is fitted by the factory. Who knows if it's top notch or not. I've not tried to break into it yet :) Although I have never heard it go off!!!

Is thier a way you can trigger it manually with the remote?

  5. thanks for the comments, I have reported this to the police who were really good about it, they said if I had reported it earlier they would have sent a car out for a patrol around the area.

I've also made people aware on the street so they will get the full reg if they see it. I have the first bit of the reg so it could helpn if needed.

  6. Tonight and a few nights ago I have had a suspect car pull up next to mine and take a look inside it. The same car also pulled next to me at some lights and was staring into my car.

Should I call the local police station and report these incidents?

The suspect car was a Fabia VRS exactly the same as mine. I just don't get it, My car is standard so I don't get what it is they are doing. Maybe they were checking the options I had fitted. Thats the only thing I can think of?

However it's causing me to jump to the window evertime someone pulls up and it's not fun cos there are lots of cars pulling up.

    It seems odd behaviour.

    Any advice appreciated

  7. You definitely need to change your brake fluid Chris. Brake fluid absorbs water over time and deteriorates. Water in brake fluid is a bad thing and causes it to boil much earlier than it should do. It can also cause corrosion in your braking system - you should see the crap that comes out after 2 years let alone 4.

I strongly advise that you get it done ASAP.

I will look into getting it done this week then. Going to an independent now it''s out of warranty.

    Thanks for this.

  8. mines not been changed for 3 years going on for the forth now and has not been changed. I can still brake : ) , however I think I may change it soon.

My father said it should be ok for 4 years, however I think things have changed since he was a mechanic as load of people have recomeneded to do it after 2 years.

However, I feel if the brake fluid change is to be done every 2 years why don't they just do it in the service.

I mean I asked them to do the fuel filter on the 3rd service and they wanted to charge £40 for fitting and £25 for the filter itself, I was already having a service done (3rd year). Dealers are just robbing dogs! when they don't need to be.

  9. Toyo's have very poor wear characteristics - the Continentals will last about twice as long (20-25,000 miles on the front, 30,000 miles plus on the back) and they wear much better. The only Toyo's I tried were very good for about 6000 miles then they went a bit carp and then they just wore out after about 12,000 miles. I reckon that makes them very expensive.

I'n my experience they lasted the same for both Conti SC2 and Toyo T1r proxes.

Changed the front's which were on the standard contis at 13k miles, put on 2 proxe's on, swapped fronts again at just over 26k miles.

I have now swapped the rear old conti's to the front and new toyo's on the back.

so for me they have been the same , yet the toyo's seemed to be grippeir and quieter and more importantly alot cheaper.

I've not noticed the toyo's going off either. however I can pretty much get 1.5 totyo's to a conti so even if they wore out/went off 2/3 into the life length of a conti, I would still be having better grip for the same cost... lol

I don't do motorway miles mainly a and b roads. I get around 55mpg so i'm not caning it to waer the tyres down.

  10. ok, my car (Fabia VRS) is 3 year old 30k miles, I have I rather anoying knocking noise that seems to be coming from the rear of the car that occurs when traveling on roads where the surface is not perfect, it does not do it over speed bumps though!

I have read a few threads saying that it could be the rear seats or possibly the exhaust rattling.

I have tightened up the rear seat rubber stops and put tape on the hooks that hold the seats back.

I have not checked the exhaust yet.

Any ideas what this may be, the threads I checked did not particularly say the problem had been fixed.

Any info is greatly appreciated as it rather annoying and embarrasing to a degree as it's not an old car yet it sounds like one sen as the roads round here are not very good for the car. i.e. not perfectly smooth

  11. Hi,

I am about to take my car in for it's 3rd year service, MOT and end of warranty inspection, however my 2nd year service was done at an independent and I don't think the fuel filter was changed!

I know the fuel filter is around £25 for the part itself but do you think the dealer will fit it at no extra labour cost while doing all the other bits? How long does it take and is it easy for them to do?

If it's going to cost more I will get a independent to do it as it's most likely going to be cheaper anyway.

    Thanks

    Chris

  12. It's all relative, yes you do get used to it, yes it does start to feel not as fast as it was when you got it, but believe me it's still the same unless you have a fault of course.

The thing is you do get used to it, for me it's faster than a 1.2 clio I had last by a collossal amount, yet I still get more mpg out of it. Thats all that matters to me, aslong as your'e happy.

The faster the car, the faster the money comes out of your bank!

  13. It doesn't get any prettier either.

But the car you drive is as ugly. I drive the same car, at the end of the day whe you drive it you don't see the outside.

However it says alot about someone when you buy a car to make you look good ;)

  14. Why on earth would anyone come into a skoda forum with a VW Polo, ask for advice, ignore the advice given back, then accuse the same people of not knowing what they are on about.

It's unbeleivable. Why don't you go to a VW forum? Not that we are an unfriendly bunch, just becuase you would not walk into someone elses house and act the way you have done here.

Can't beleive you really think that paying the extra you paid for a VW really is worth the "extra quality" lol. Have you read the majority reviews comparing Polo and Fabia? I suggest you should, some good reading.

Lame excuse saying that you did not buy a Fabia as you have to explain to ladies thats it's a VW really. How pathetic does that make you sound! You would have found that everyone know's what Skoda's are without being told and are very impressed with them.

p.s. having something (ie degree / money etc) and having to tell people that you have it is just desperate. It's like having lots of money and boasting about it.
