  1. you say "ok" the book pressures are not the best pressures for the car.

I think they did a lame estimate when making the sticker on the pump flap.

I'd say 36-38 psi on the front and 32 - 34 on the rears.

1st set of Tyres I had were ran on the official figures (32 front 30 back I think) and front tyres were worn badly on the edges at 8k miles

2nd set of tyres I am using 36 psi and they have worn very evenly and at 13k miles and still going strong. ame tyres just different pressures.

  2. Someone feel free to correct me if this doesn't make sense, but wouldn't reversing at speed then appling the brakes transfer the weight to the rear of the car forcing the rears to work harder and as such cleaning them better?

(or you could use the car more :D)

That could work as the tranfer in weight would naturally cause the brakes to work harder maybe..... question, does ESP work in reverse?! :)

  3. happens to me, sounds like it's coming from the rears more on mine. I gently apply the handbrake a few seconds at a time while driving straight. Obviosuly I check and make sure no one is behind me when I do this.

Seems to sort it for that day, I only experience this in the winter.

Have your others cars been front wheel drive and have disks back and front?

Is it front, back or both?

  4. The rev range is there to be used.

Beat me to it. I just say that if it was not meant to be done then the manufacturer would have made it not do so.

I do the same thing in my VRS. Driving to work at the same point everyday, uphill (60MPH limit) I tend to rev tilll 4500rpm then change. When I do this the engine is warm already.

Like you, I have been doing it for a while now. I wouldn't worry.

  5. Sounds like it has not been refitted right. If you gently prise the bumper away from the wing (torx in wheelarch x 3) then you should see there's a bit of plastic that sticks out from the bumper that goes behind part of the clip screwed to the wing. If it gets the wrong side, it gives the effect you have found. Hopefully, re-clipping it in right will result in it sitting right. Has it been removed for some reason recently? (eg foglight replacement?)

Not that I know of. I've had it since new. only thing I can think of which may have done this is the dealer adjusted the xenons....they don't need bumper off for that do they?

I will take it in one last time and get dealer to do it before it goes out of warranty.

  6. my driver side rattle is back with avengance. I don't think it's the speaker this time. I think it's the door trim near the speaker. It is worse on cold days. Settibng off from any juntion makes the trim rattle.

The dealer seems to have put black sealant around the bottom of the door panel about 8 months ago an not had a rattle until it's gone cold.

I think I will use folder paper and see what is going on. Problem is that when I get home it's dark and cold :(

  7. Id do the service yourself and save a load of money, robbing ********!

If I had a little mechanical experience then I probably would. seen as it's exiting the warranty period I don't mind paying the money for a dealer to do it.

I did get my 2nd year service done by a local garage who did a great job and treat me like a person and not a number like the dealers did. I saved some cash but this year i'd rather go with the dealer just incase they see some work to be done.

Then again If I got the MOT and service done else where and they noted problems that could be done on warranty I could then go to the dealers knowing full well there are issues.

Is it advantageous for a dealer to do the work under warranty or just let it go out with slight issues that could be done under warranty and then get paid 100% for the job in a few months time?

hope that question is not a riddle to you all.

  8. Is it best to have the 3 year service done before this warranty expires?

also can you ask them to inspect suspension ect so that they can spot if there are parts that need to be replaced under warranty?

What's the best thing to do at this time? I don't want to have a big bill a few months after the service.

Are there any parts that I can specifically ask to be looked at at this period? maybe ones that will need to replaced around this time?

    thanks

    Chris

  9. my tanks lasts me 3 weeks ish. travelling a round trip of 16 miles a day and more at the weekends. The trip is mostly dual carriage way at 50mph and some city and car park drivng.

I generally get about 450 miles to the tank and use the computer to fill up and not the fuel light.

When I swapped from a 1.2 clio to the fabia my fuel bills stayed the same on the same journeys. I get more miles in the fabia VRS which negates the cost of diesel over petrol.

I always say that a 1.2 economy is the same as a 1.9 turbo diesel for my style of driving.

    Makes total sense for me.

  10. I'd like to think the dampers were at fault as the car rolls around so much and is not that sporty. Why do people think it has hard suspension?

It's strange really something is not quite right with the standard setup.

If it was sporty and stiff and handled well then i'd understand the bad ride over uneven surfaces but it's not!

  11. My Vrs insurance has always been through elephant I bought the car when I was 19 and had been driving 2 years with no no claims discount and an SP30. Insurance for 10 months bonus accelerator was 1050. The second time round I renewed it the cost was 850 for a further 10 months bonus accelerator. Hopefully the next time I renew it the cost will come down considerably as I will be 21 and have been driving for 3 years with 2 years no claims discount.:) :)

I would not hold out for being 21 and getting cheaper car insurance, mine went down but I can imagine it was due to the year no claims bonus I added for that year. I'm now 25 and it has onlu just tumbled.

I'm not saying it won't, just don't take it for granted

  12. is it obvious to a mechanic if bearing have gone when it's on the ramp? the thing is I think soemthing is not right, but everytime I go in for other issues I have had they just say they can't hear it or find the fault yet drving it I know it's obviously a problem.

There is only less then a year on warranty and I don't want them to break ehrn it goes out of warranty

  13. the rear drivers side wheel makes a slight rubbing noise but only when taking the corner/roundabout only slightly faster than the standard motorist.

Also in the summer I heard a a litte squealing noise from the car (only with window down) at low speed, it sounded like the brakes because if I dabbed the brake or put the hand brake on a touch it would go away.

So 2 issues above. If I took the car to a dealer would they easily detect these on ramp?

I'm thinking wheel bearing for the first issue, the thing is if I don't have the radio on and do a round about or corner I can always hear a very quiet rubbing noise but that don't matter which direct I turn.

p.s I have very good hearing and I think it works overtime in the car!
