  1. It worry me that it's had 3 owners! Guessing it's a 10/11 plate?

    Hi

I've just traded my vrs in and I was the third owner. It was 1st on the road in January 2011. I'd had the car for about 2 years and the car had just reached 41,000 miles. In that time it used no oil to talk about and was utterly reliable. I'd had it serviced twice, 2 new tyres and just recently new discs and pads all round.

It was purchased pretty much immediately on trade in by one of the mechanics at the garage who knew the history from their servicing of it and he'd seen it close up.

A few owners isn't neccessarily a problem, sometimes folk get bored and change for reasons other than escaping a problem car.

  2. Hi

I just picked up a roomster today. It's a Black Edition. It's a fine vehicle and after a decent run I'm really impressed. The car I had before was a Fabia 2 vrs although I had a 1.4tdi roomster in the past. Looking forward to doing some miles in this car.

    cheers

  3. Hi

Really you have to prioritise what you want in a phone and work out which compromise works best for you as nothing will perfect.

I use the Note 4 because I really value the replaceable battery and the micro SD expansion.  It's battery lasts well but I don't want to ever activate power saving unless I'm desperate.  If I'm paying for one of the latest smartphones I want it all all of the time so the ability to swap out a battery is important to me.  The excellent screen and better build quality are a plus and I use the S-Pen.

But you may prefer the even bigger screen, quicker software upgrades and vanilla android experience of the Nexus 6 but no replaceable battery or micro SD expansion here.

The LG G4 is a lovely thing too - my wife has the G3 and really likes it and after trying it with her in the shop she's decided not to upgrade yet - I must admit I was impressed though.

If brushed aluminium and super build quality floats your boat with the sense skin on top of android then HTC M9 is the way to go.  The latest big Sony Z3 is a nice thing with glass front and back, an excellent battery and waterproof too.

You really can't go far wrong with any of them, it's just finding the best fit for your phone use.

good luck and enjoy the hunt

  4. At the moment probably not.  And somewhat oddly it's not because of my experience with the cars, it's the comments and negativity I see in the Fabia 2 forum.

In recent years, between my wife and myself we've owned (all new or nearly new) a 2.0l Beetle, a Golf TDI PD estate, a Polo, a Beetle 2.3 V5, an Audi A2, a Fabia vRS Mk1 and a Fabia vRS mk2. The only problem we've had with any of the cars has been a minor problem that caused the Golf estate to go into limp home mode but it was painlessly and immediately sorted by VW under warranty.

But it is clear that many folk are having problems and that VAG will probably be very unhelpful.  If VAG wont back their product and the folk who've spent their hard earned cash on the cars talk them down, then I will probably spend my money elsewhere.

  5. Surely any information gathered by a tracker can't be used in court unless the driver was aware of the tracker being there? didn't know information could be used under the data protection act i looked into it as some of our work vans have trackers but have no stickers to alert the driver of this fact ?

    Hi

I'm not a lawyer (English or Scottish) but I reckon it would be very easy to get the tracker evidence introduced to court.  As soon as the accused answers the question "what speed were you doing at the time of the accident" the tracker would be introduced as a way to verify the answer given, or to disprove the evidence just given.

  6. Hi

I don't have a Samsung or Columbus Unit at the moment but on the Columbus have you tried the settings menus?  Something like - Settings - WiFi and Network - USB Utilities - then choose the option to "connect to storage (or storage PC?).

You might then have to choose to connect as storage or some such on your phone.

    I hope it helps

  7. Hi

If you like the LG have you tried www.mobiles.co.uk?  They have the LG G3 on O2 for £18 a month.  All their phones are unlocked (as are their parent company Carphone Warehouse).  So you can use your sim on their phone.

If you'd prefer to buy one outright let me know.  I do know of a completely mint in box, unmarked unlocked one with extra battery, 2 tempered glass screen protectors, a few cases inc the wireless QI charging case etc.

Although I use a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact (too small for your needs) I did used to use a G3 as my daily driver.  I've found though that as I use a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 to browse the web when away from home using my mobile as a wifi hotspot, I needed a smaller phone otherwise I'd have still kept mine.  Very good machines.

But if you're deciding between the Z2 and the OnePlus One I'd go with the OnePlus One personally.

  8. Needing a new "cheapish" winter run about but could well stay within the family afterwards.

    Only real wants are ....

    • Around 3k
    • Van, 4x4 or estate (basically would like space to chuck rubbish into lol)
    • Fairly reliable (I realise within this price range its all about service history)
    • Petrol or diesel doesn't matter

Any options out there that people can suggest and views on the Rav4 great appreciated.

    Joel

    Hi Joel

The wife has had 2 Rav 4's in recent years.  Both newer and more expensive than you are looking at I must admit.

Both were Autos, both utterly reliable and held their value well when she fancied a change.

  9. only ok? its the only other thing i really use and i was looking at the g3 hoping the camera was better than just ok, z1 13 mp is awesome so i was hoping this would be too

I should probably explain more clearly. I was listing my requirements, not making a judgement on the G3. So I really wanted my choice of phone to have a replaceable battery, micro sd card slot, great screen, decent battery and quick performance. But i only needed the camera to be OK - it's not a big concern to me personally.

I find the swapable battery is much more important to me. I don' want to hear how good the power mamagement on a phone is when it gets down to the last 20% and it throttles everything back to eke out the power. If I am buying a top of the line flagship phone I want everything to be working when I want it. I want all my email synced, if I want the screen on bright I don't want to worry about running out of juice or finding a charging point. Batteries are cheap and light so I carry a spare - if I was flying to the US I might carry a couple for airports and plane etc.

But, back to the original point, as it happens the G3 has a very good camera with a very quick autofocus.

To put my comments into perspective I've had a Note 1, Note 2, Blackberry Z10, Nokia 1020, Note 3, LG G3 and a bunch of others in recent years. So even amongst a bunch of high end phones the G3 stands out as a very good thing.

It will not be the right phone for everyone - some folks will love the metal chassis of the HTC M8, different folks again will love the huge range of extras (Cases, batteries, car docks etc) for the Samsung S5 that are cheaply and readily available.

For me it came down to the S5 and G3.

But here's an admission - I really like my G3, but am really missing the stylus on the Note 3. The one I sold was unmarked and right now if I was offered it back as a trade I'd take it........

    Sorry for the long post

I didn't say the camera was only OK, I said that was all I required, all I wanted. It is in fact a very good camera with a REALLY quick autofocus.

  11. hi

I have the LG G3 and it's a fine thing. I've never had a problem with battery life and never had to use my spare battery, but I really appreciate that I can just slap another battery in if I want to. I keep the spare in my wallet and swap them over every couple of months.

Let's be honest here, it's hard to go wrong with any of the flagship phones from most manufacturers and OS's. You decide on your own priorities and make the appropriate choice.

For me at this time I wanted Android, in the past I've had Apple and Windows, but for now I wanted Android, replaceable battery, micro sd card compatibility, decent screen, OK camera and for it to be quick.

There's so much choice out there and all with their own different pluses and minuses, the trick is to find the best set of features and compromises for you. But it would be really hard to make a bad choice if you stick to the flagship phones of the major manufacturers.
