  1. Competition in terms of other cars I'm considering? Or any other of the same cars from other volvo dealers?
  2. How long does the handover process take? Can't be that long can it? Seems crazy and a bit ridiculous that it has to be after 5pm, not middle of the day like I was planning, especially when they've said the car is all and completely ready,
  3. So, is it normal for a dealership not to be able to do a handover until after 5pm on a weekend? I'm meant to be picking it up on Saturday, but apparently because they 'are busy doing sales' on a weekend, he's not allowed to do the handover until after 5pm. It's not really a problem but it just seems odd. Also, my plan was to go on Saturday, check the car over once more and then should everything be OK, pay the remaining balance for the car. Now the way i was going to do this is pay £10k on my debit card, and then give my bank my authorization to pay the rest of the money to dealership directly (this is is via the banks car finance deal, i don't see the money). Then I'll owe the dealership nothing. I've spoken to the bank about it and they said the funds can sometimes take up to a few hours to reach their account but they'd only send the money when i said they could. However this also apparently can't be done now either as the accounts and admin department are closed on the weekend so they won't be able to confirm the money is there. They want the money (well, the money from the bank at least anyway) before hand. Again, is this common practice? Or is it just because payments from a debit card are fairly instant where as transfers from anywhere else would need confirmation? When i picked up my Fabia vRS (on a Saturday morning) i paid for the car then and that didn't seem to be an issue. I know quite a few people have said walk away and I please don't want any 'I told you so' but I seriously now am very very close to doing just that. Everything coming together now has just made the whole process difficult and stressful almost. I should be excited now not just.. a bit disappointed really with how everything has happened. The one salesman I've dealt with has been fine mostly apart from the usual salesman lines, I guess he's just been feeding back from the people above him. I've got an email to the dealer saying I'm on the edge of not coming anymore on Saturday sat waiting in my drafts to be sent. Would be interested to know what they're reply would be. I'll be annoyed that i'll probably lose my deposit but I'll still sleep OK if I do lose the car. I like it a lot, but I would have been more devastated if I'd lost the Fabia at the time!
  4. Price drop to £5299. Really don't want to go much lower! Would love to sell it to another briskoda member so I could see it live on!
  5. Thanks Brian - apologies for the awful pictures I tried uploading them straight from my phone because the photobox type website I've used before had so many adverts and it was just a PITA. Hopefully someone else can enjoy it soon.
  6. Also completely smoke and pet free (I do have a dog but he doesn't go in my car)
  7. Car now on Autotrader and Gumtree. Car has never had any MOT advisories either. Has the usual features as well as Bluetooth and cruise control. No finance outstanding and certainly not stolen
  8. Always meant to start a build thread! Never got round to it. Thanks for that, I've requested to join the group and I'll try on there!
  9. Thanks mate, appreciated. Bit annoying that all the photos are the wrong way round - maybe that's because I uploaded them from my phone. Will take some better ones and upload this weekend. Not sure how many MK2 Fabia vRS'd manage to be sold on here. Will try gumtree and then autotrader soon too. Anyone ever had any luck selling cars on eBay?
  10. I'm exactly the same! Had a Citroen C2 for my first car for a year and a half or so, and then about a month or so before I turned 19 I got my green Fabia vRS And to the OP - I'd say get a Monte Carlo!
  11. Being a Liverpool fan, Sadio Mane gets my vote. The Dortmund striker who's name I can hardly spell or pronounce is pretty awesome though
  12. Just noticed the pictures are for some reason the wrong way round - apologies, not sure why this is! Not sure if I can turn them around..?
  13. As some may have seen recently, I'm planning on getting a new car shortly. The car has been good to me and I've had a lot of fun driving and owning it. Some detail: I bought the car new in December 2011. It was registered in July 2011 and as far as I could tell had just sat on the forecourt as 5 months later when I picked it up it only had 22 miles on the clock. It has now done 66500 miles and this will go up slightly each day as I use it as a daily car. As you'll be able to see when looking at my posts, I have modified this vehicle (in a good way I hope/think). The modifications I have made are as follows; APR Stage 1 Forge Intercooler Pipercross Panel Filter H&R RARB GFB DV+ Bilstein B12 suspension kit. Powerflow exhaust system (was loud, but had a silencer fitted again so isn't anymore) And I think that's it.. The car currently develops 211bhp and runs very smoothly, pulls nicely all the way through. I have the dyno print out to prove it. Good points: Full Skoda service history (it was last serviced less than a week ago) MOT until June 2017 Car handles brilliantly. Car has been well looked after - oil and spark plugs changed every 10k regardless of if they've needed changing or not. 4x Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 tyres with 6mm tread on them ( I personally think these tyres are excellent) All receipts and paperwork for every service or modification done has been kept. Bad points: Some kerb marks on the alloys Few small stone chip marks along the front bumper CAVE engine so does use oil - although only a small amount as I don't often have to top up, and as the engine runs perfectly this doesn't bother me. To be honest I'm needing a fairly quick sale! The car is located in Fleet, Hampshire. I will upload more photos (interior and engine bay etc)!this weekend when I get a chance to take some, as recently it's been dark when I've left for work and dark when I've got home! £5399 ONO. I've had a good look on autotrader and feel this is priced to sell soon, but I will listen to offers. Viewings welcome! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
  14. I was told it was given as a company car type thing to the showrooms top salesman, but they were being de-fleeted (probably not a word) and put up for sale to the public. I think the plan for the time being is to keep eyes open for other cars and if the car isn't absolutely immaculate when I come to get it I'll be getting my deposit back and saying thanks but no thanks. Thanks all again for your feedback and advice, it really is appreciated. I know a lot of you will have a lot more experience in buying cars than I do, and I feel I won't be risking to much if I do give them the chance to do everything they say they will and if not, instantly walking away. If I do go ahead and complete the buying of the car, I'll certainly be sticking around on briskoda, the best forum I've found! (so for the time being, there is a Fabia vRS for sale..)
  15. Think I'm going to have a look at a few websites like Carwow etc and get some quotes for a new one. You can either have a whole polestar pack which is about £5k or you can select individual parts of it like the exhaust system or the lowering springs or whatever. Maybe threatening to pull away from the deal may make the dealership offer a sweetener or something. And if they don't, I won't lose any sleep if I don't end up with the car. I might go and pick up the car and it's been fixed perfectly, there aren't any problems with the car and I never have to deal with them again. Or, I go to pick up the car and they haven't done what they said they would or it's not done properly and I have issues getting it sorted. I got a reply from Volvo UK yesterday saying: Dear Mr.. Thank you for your email. I am pleased to read of your imminent purchase of a Volvo V40 T5. However, I am very sorry but we cannot give the reassurances you are requesting, as the purchase of your vehicle is a contractual relationship between yourself and Volvo Cars West London. Therefore, it is the dealership that needs to answer these questions directly to you. I would be more than happy to refer your email to Volvo Cars West London requesting they contact you directly to offer the reassurances you are seeking and please do let me know by return if you would like me to contact the dealership on your behalf" I had ask them if they could offer reassurances that the work would be guaranteed and I could take it to another dealer if there was any issues. So if anything did go wrong they wouldn't be interested lol. Is this the same stance that other car makers would have?
  16. Thanks for that, I'll have a better look at that, car wow and orange wheels is it? When I get home. The polestar has an extra 10bhp and some more torque which isn't the be all and end all, I just liked the styling extras it had.
  17. Doesn't have to be a polestar, but when the price dropped I became more interested. From what I've read, brand new they are £35k, which is a horrendous amount of money. So to get over £10k off the price shows pretty bad depreciation but it seems like quite a bit of car for the money and I'd certainly be keeping it a while. I have had an uneasy feeling about it which is why I've asked for other people's opinions/thoughts on it. Guess you should probably go with your gut feeling! But yeah, I know at least 3 of the sales guys have driven it!
  18. Don't get me wrong, I fully appreciate the advice given by the people who have commented. This is by far the most expensive thing I'd have bought if I do go ahead with it. While I do like the car I am still prepared to walk away and get my deposit back (that would be an awkward conversation to have) and I certainly wouldn't come back on here to complain if I did have issues! Would look like an even bigger tit than I potentially do now. I await to here back from Volvo but I presume I'm well within my rights to change my mind and ask for money back before the full sale goes through?
  19. I did, when the salesman said on Sunday that they were making a loss and he wouldn't be getting anything on the car I said that's really no problem or concern of mine! If they didn't want the sale they could have just said sorry we can't sell the car for that and I would have walked away then and there.
  20. Thanks again for replies. A bit more detail for you. So the car in question is a 2016 Volvo V40 T5 Polestar, which is the only one I could find for sale. It was registered in May of this year and has done about 5500 miles (although advertised with 1500 miles) The Volvo dealership is in Chiswick and the salesman actually brought the car to my place of work in Reading for me to test drive (I wasn't even that eager at the time but he insisted). May not be to everyone's tastes but the car drove nicely and in my opinion looked nice as well. He was quick to point out the crack in the panoramic sunroof and the scuffs to the alloys from kerbing. The top salesman, who is now the business manager, apparently has had the car since new. It was originally priced at £26995 which I wasn't really interested in paying but then the evening after I test drove it I noticed on Autotrader that the price had dropped to £23995 which had me much more interested as this was between the other 2 T5's for sale that didn't have the Polestar pack on. So I called up the next day and said I'd have it for the new price. I was then told this price was a mistake and it wasn't that price but they'd give it to me for that price but couldn't/wouldn't give me a penny more off or anything other with the car such as the petrol or tax as previously mentioned. The car will apparently be ready within the next 2 weeks. There is a Volvo dealership in Reading which would make it much easier for me to go and collect the car if it could be transferred there. So that's the current situation with the car. As I said, I do like the car and the Fabia is 5 years old in December and I would like something else. It's got all the kit so it doesn't seem like a bad price, but as previously stated, the dealership hasn't inspired me with confidence. Mainly due to kind of treating me like I'm a bit thick, and the attitude they've had at times. The dealership doesn't have great reviews on Google. I've emailed Volvo UK this morning for reassurance of the guarantee on the repair work so I'll see what they say.
  21. I didn't say I believed him. Just that's what I was told and they refused to budge in offering anything else on the car.
  22. Thanks everyone. So the dealer in question isn't actually Skoda. I just had a look on the order form/invoice and there is in writing 'replace sun roof' which if referring to the whole panel doesn't seem like a small job. But no mention of the alloys being refurbished. While the roof is the biggest issue, and no doubt I'll kerb them myself at some point, I'll be paying quite a lot of money for the car and so I want everything to look as good as brand new. The crack on the roof did seem like an odd thing to happen. I do have in an email at least that the work on the roof and alloys will be guaranteed. I guess gives me a leg to stand on at least should anything go wrong. I also asked for a full years tax and tank of petrol but they refused both of those requests as apparently they had made a mistake on the pricing of the car and were losing money on it as it was so couldn't do anything else for me. When looking at the car again on Sunday I asked for a HPI check on the car as a friend who used to work for HPI said they could do it for just a few quid at trade price as opposed to £20 for consumers. The dealer almost laughed in my face when I said that saying you don't need that, we've had the car the whole time. Not the greatest dealership in the world from what I can tell, but it is a very nice car at quite a good price admittedly so maybe I should just not push to much.
  23. The car will apparently be ready in a couple of weeks and if I've already sold my car when I go to collect it, walking away wouldn't be the easiest option. I presume they'd have to refund the deposit if I did change my mind for whatever reason?
  24. So I've been to see a nearly new car from a manufacturer dealership and noticed it had a crack in the panoramic sunroof and some light kerbing on the alloys. They promised that both of these things would be completely sorted before purchase, with the whole sunroof being replaced and the wheels to be refurbished. If I put the deposit down and upon coming to collect and pay for the car they hadn't fixed these things as promised, what could I do? It was explained to me that the now business manager had the car and he was the one that caused the damage (something about keys and coffee being placed on the roof). Shall I ask for this in writing so if they don't fix it properly or at all I can take it to another dealer to be done? It's a lovely car but I'm not feeling hugely confident with the dealership right now and it's not close to home either so if I did have issues it would be a real pain. Thanks!
  25. A couple of weeks ago I was attempting to get to Reading on the A33 and had been stuck for ages because they'd closed the road up ahead. I was sat there and suddenly all I saw in my rear view mirror was clouds of smoke pouring from what I thought was my car, but I had no lights on the dash and as I pulled off I realised it was the top of the range Jag behind me! Had smoke bellowing from the engine bay and I felt bad for the people behind who would now be stuck there even longer!
