  1. Ok, so this has been an issue I've had for at elast a year and just not got around to even looking at. my AC gets nice and cold which has been very nice in the recent weather. Chilling ones buttocks is also very nice on those long drives like the 6 hour schlep we did up to Stirling from the midlands last year, a journey the 280 L&K was perfect for. However, when I turn my chilled seats on, everything works fine for a while. Eventually I want a bit of cooler air elsewhere and it feels like the blower is going full tilt but barely anything is coming from the vents to the point where the car feels stifling forcing me to *gasp* open a window. It seems to correct itself if the car is left overnight, but apart from that I've not found a reliable cure. I did once set the controls to blow it all up the windscreen and after about 2 minutes there was a definite increase in airflow and decrease in noise from the blower as it felt like something got unblocked or a flap moved or something. I thought I had found a cure for my oddity but alas, it was not able to be replicated. It's got to the point where if we're on a 2 hour drive I won't dare activate cold butt until were at least 90 minutes in. Any thoughts?
  2. My 280 is at 75k miles and now only just 5 years old in September, the vast majority was on the motorway with ACC on. The discs looked fine apart from 2 rings that for some reason were not wearing at the same rate, with commensurate marks in the pads. Yours look like they've used some pre chewed toffee for the discs.
  3. More than a little late to the party but thank you for the info contained within this thread. My Skoda dealer (Startin Skoda in Worcester) wanted £665 for new front pads, rear pads and rear disks on my 280. Happy with 75,000 miles out of those, not happy with that price. I picked up Pagid pads and Brembo 310mm vented rear disks (would have got Pagid but they were OOS) for about £170 from carparts4less. Incidentally, they were £40 cheaper than ECP, despite being the exact same company and even delivered in a ECP van! Naturally an easy job just became a ballache when I realised I needed to disengage the electronic handbrake. Fortunately this thread pointed me in the direction of Carista which have a 7 day free trial when you sign up for the 12 month sub, which you can immediately cancel and so get the app to do what you need for nowt, and I already had a blutooth ODB dongle. Next I just needed to put the car on charge as advised...only my charger despite having been used extensively with no issues decides that today, the time I need it, it is fully dead. F. M. L. Oh and of course I'm doing this in the glorious sunshine and on a gravel driveway for more funs. Just wanted to reply and say that I was able to replace the rear 310mm vented disks without dismantling the entire car. Only 1x T45 caliper pin (hidden under a dust cap) needed to be undone to flip the caliper up and out of the way to do the pads, and the disk has juuuuust enough room to slide on and off without having to remove the carrier. I will note that the disk required substantial persuasion in order to budge in the first place though.
  4. Honestly I've had Continental TS 860s on mine for what feels like 2 years now and never bothered taking them off. One tyre review test at some magic place that can heat the road up and add ice etc showed the crossover on performance not being down at 7c but actually nearer 15c, so I just rolled with it and have been very happy.
  5. Genuinely surprised that made any difference as the contacts are all under a silicone cover.
  6. Ohh lets see. I've just done it at 58k and first handover to the garage I got it from was 22nd September 2017, so just over 3.5 ish years old now. It was probably doing it at least 6 months ago if not more, but when you don't know its a known issue you put it down to not hitting it right or whatever. Only in the last 3 months have I really realised that its taking multiple actions to start and stop the car and it wasn't just me having finger trouble. I might have been able to argue when it has its major service next week that the button to start the car isn't fit for purpose if it dies 4 years in, and that it should be replaced free despite being out of warranty. Frankly for 20 minutes of fiddling it was easier doing this. Last thing I wanted was them doing it and going "well we decided not to do it for free so where's our £150 for this 10 minute job?".
  7. I just repaired my engine stop start button. It had developed the common fault of working less and less often and I know I could have replaced it but I figured I'd have a go at repairing first. 1 T25 screw in the underside of the lower column shroud, then 2 T25 screws in the column only visible when the wheel is turned 90 degrees. With the lower cover off I unplugged the 2 connectors. 1 is the switch and 1 is the light. Using the probes on my meter I popped the bits that helped me push the barrel out of the shroud and set about dismantling it. There are 4 plastic clips holding it together. 1 is visible, 1 is hidden under the sticker and 2 are hidden under the metal clips on either side. With pliers gently pull those metal clips out, then using the extra arms you were born with, get something under each of the 4 clips and separate the barrel. It all comes apart after that and all I did was apply a little iso alcohol to the 4 contact points on the board as well as to the 4 contacts on the silicone bit. Put it all back together and now I can turn my car on and off first time every time. Rather than 7th time sometimes! For the sake of the search engine I'll add the words KESSY engine stop start button. No need to spend any money to have your car start like it should do! I hadn't seen this post before, but there's a photo in it of the barrel disassembled
  8. The guy that did my ceramic coat a year ago was shocked at the state of the paintwork on my 3 month old 3k miles car, owned by one of the directors of the dealership as his demo. Been washed by bloody rolling it down a bloody hill I think!
  9. Fwiw the latest ep of MCM is Moog putting basically everything from Revo on his 2015 Golf R. Same engine so it's of interest.
  10. I suppose the same is true of PS4 or PS4S. One is a bit better but for road use they are near identical. The PS4S doesn't suffer from heat as much as the PS4 does and offers a couple of percent better times. I think tyrereview did a video with the PS4, PS4S and the Cup 2 compared. Thanks for that I'll have a look. Not everywhere is doing the cashback and Michelin are doing a great job of not telling you where is valid on their own site. Can't get over how hard it is to just find PS4 in this size. I sat down and worked out that apart from a 300 mile drive this weekend and 250 to heathrow and back in May, I've not doing my usual mileage. While I've usually done 1500 a month since I got the car its only going to be maybe 1000 between now and the start of June. Not keen on running these TS860S winters all year though as they'll just wear too fast. They are at least still a perfectly decent tyre to be driving on even in the summer.
  11. I wish you luck. Looking around most places only do the PS4S in this dumb size and don't offer the PS4 at all, also none yet have the F1 Assy 5 and not all have the Sport Contact 6. Camskill can do the standard PS4 for £595 delivered so about £670 for me to get fitted. Blackcircles can only do it for £754 and ThickFit want £752. All a bit different to the £500 the 245/40/19s were going to work out to after the Michelin cashback and top cashback. Fuuuuuuuuu. Even if I wanted the PS4S from ProTyre, they will only let me put 1 in the basket Its half tempting to just stay on the bloody Continental TS860S winters I had fitted. If I didn't do so many miles I just might. OOI, are tyre places looking at the alloy for tyre sizing or the car reg? What do a tyre shop do if I walk in with 9J wheels on the car? Right I better stop talking about tyres before I get told off again. How are your 280 engines doing?
  12. So that was a colossal waste, Protyre outright refused to fit 245/40/19s to the car because its not allowed. That 245/40/19 fits perfectly to the car is, apparently, irrelevant. The only michelin they do in 235/40/19 is the MPS4S at a delightful £196 per tyre. Yeah. No. Ta Skoda for a PITA tyre size.
  13. As I think I've said before, if the tyres are close in price then I might consider it, but tbh trying to find 245/40/19 MPS4S has actually been quite hard. In the standard 235/40/19 they are available but at £190 a corner its really not worth the extra for me, not in this car. I spend most of my time motorway cruising or driving the kid around so I'm not driving it like some people do. I recall someone saying they averaged like 18mpg per tank because they apparently drove it "like you should" for the power it has . I can't imagine how much traffic they must be sitting in or how many bumpers they are sitting on at 70 to get consumption like that lol. In the end I've gone for the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 at £644 fitted from Protyre, I'll get get £100 cashback from Michelin taking it to £136 a tyre which is a good deal to me. If the topcashback comes through as well it'll be another £50 back too! I know the standard fitment is 235/40/19 on the 19" wheels, and I've already had someone preach at me with "well if you think you know better than the manufacturer" lol. 245 is often cheaper than 235 and fits perfectly fine. My thoughts really. If it were my S2000 (currently on just MPS4) then maybe. Frankly I'm driving a fast roadboat and I'm happy just having a very very good tyre over a very very very good tyre. I for one am certainly not going to notice the difference on this car with the way I drive it. Good luck finding them! I think I found one place that had them and I think it was £172 a corner. PS4 is a no brainer to me at £136.
  14. Nice looking Unit you got there @SteHaworth! I still can;t make my mind up whether I prefer the digital dash or my old timer dial dash Anyway, its tyre time again (already ready o be moved to a thread nobody will read) after all the snow we had (none) my TS 860s are about to be packed away for the summer. Since the old boots were shot anyway I have to get something new so automatically thought of some Michelin Pilot Sport 4, but had a look at the always excellent tyre reviews channel and he was testing the new Goodyear Assy 5 which looked good. Sadly right now the only place I can find them in 245/40/19 (I know, me changing fitment again, whatever will Skoda say?) is Mytyres at £172 a corner fitted. The MPS4 I can get for £604 straight up fitted on black circles or for frankly a steal at £544 from Protyre (£644 up front and Michelin send you a card with £100 on it). Will have to hunt around a bit more though. I also have the adapter needed to use the foam lance finally so I can clean the car. I'm a bad owner, 22,000 miles since I bought it last January, £1000 on a full proper polish and ceramic coating and I've not cleaned it. We'll see how it comes up I suppose!
