Finding my way

  1. I’ve seen two cars on Autotrader, both 2018 and the technical and details in the ads suggest one is 227 BHP and the other is 242. Both appear to be the facelift variant, based on the split front headlights. Is there any other way of confirming the engine BHP apart from relying on the advert contents? Thanks
  2. Hoping to purchase a 2.0l TSi Sportline/Laurin & Klement variant at some point soon. My budget may result in me seeking out a vehicle with 95K onwards on the clock. I’ll be only considering something with a full comprehensive service history. My understanding is that I shouldn’t worry about cam chain tensioners as they go on and on. But do they? So is there anything I should really looking out for? Thanks
  3. Thanks for response OccyVRS. I've seen a few around as I trawl through Autotrader and often wondered. Used to have a Mk 2 vRS so know what they're capable of.
  4. This is a follow up to a previous question I posed recently. I had a 2008 vRS for over 12 years and really loved it before moving on to something different. Looking to getting back into vRS ownership again and toying with the idea of finding one with the 4x4 drive train. If anyone has been able to compare the two, is there a noticeable improvement in road handling with this variant? Thanks
  5. Looking to purchase a vRS and a 4x4 variant grabs my interest, late Mk3 vintage. I’ve come across a few diesels with the 4x4 option but not any petrol versions. Was a 4x4 option ever available on the petrol one?
  6. Ah, that sounds like an idea. Thanks for the suggestion.
  7. Today, I called the RAC out to tow me to my local garage. On arriving, they insisted on starting the engine as they were unable to simply tow me down the road on my instructions. So we started it up and ran it for 5 minutes and guess what that sound was not there! I felt a right dork! However he did pick up the rattle I do know about which is the dual mass flywheel. The RAC man suggested that the noise I heard could be a sign of further deterioration of the DMF I have the car's MOT booked for 7th Feb so will be driving it locally to see if it reappears in the meantime. Depending on the outcome of the MOT, I shall then decide whether its worth spending 1k on a repair for a 2008 car with 147k on the clock.
  8. Started up my 2008 2.0 vRS this morning and this weird noise came from the engine bay. Its only a short 10 second video, didn't want to run the engine too long in case something catastrophic happened! Skoda rattle.mp4
  9. Many thanks for this info, spot on!
  10. Its fallen off somewhere and need to replace. But need to know what its actually called if anyone knows TIA
  11. A belated thanks to everyone that have responded - definitely food for thought.
  12. I’m look to purchase a Superb estate (currently a Octavia owner) and 4x4 versions often pop up in searches. Are these variants worth getting? I’m assuming extra servicing should have been undertaken and of course going forward. What should I be looking for in the service history, i.e gearbox and diff? And when test driving, any particular way to drive it to highlight any problems? Are there known issues? And are they expensive if they go wrong? TIA
