MOT failure 2005 Skoda Fabia Vrs for sale 100200k miles MOT runs out on 31 August Failed an MOT on 16 August on the following items: Fogged headlamp Suspension arm rubber bush Tyre tread on one tyre Front brake excesivelly fluctuatiing on front nearside Rear brake binding nearside Rear parking break on nearside Front constant velocity joint gaiter Parking break Advisories: The 3 other tyres have advisories Suspension arms corroded on both sides on front but not seriously weakened Also needs a new alternator or some of the wires have broken. This was going to be investigated after the MOT. It has not been driven more than 200 miles in the last 8 months. It occasionally would lose its turbo power and drive sluggishly but fast enough to go on the motorway. Turning it off and on would reset it and it would drive fine. It once did a thing whereby when it hit 2k revs it would fall the way down to 1k and then keep going. Has a significant dent in the front nearside wing but not an MOT issue and only cosmetic. Drives along nicely at the moment. Here is a thread about some errors I was getting: I spent £500 getting it through its MOT in August 2016 and then had a second hand box put in at a cost of £350 plus labour. Any questions - let me know - I'm very near spaghetti junction and the car does drive.

Error codes - could they all be caused by the same thing?
coiner replied to coiner's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
thanks for the reply - you can tell its not the alternator from the error codes? cheers -
Hi all I recently got a friend to run a test on my 2005 Fabia VRS which I have been having some issues with, mainly the battery going flat which i think is due to a faulty alternator. When he ran a diagnostic test the errors in the pic came up. Could they all be caused by one single issue or are they likely to be individual issues? We cleared the errors and then later on that day the engine cut out when I was parking which was odd, it then turned over a lot before starting again. Thanks a lot

Clutch or Gearbox problem? Or Simpler than it seems?
coiner replied to Yusef's topic in Skoda Fabia Mk I (1999-2007)
Im looking at putting in a second hand gear box, around £300 quid, plus labour of around £250 Im wondering if the clutch destroyed the gear box somehow. -
Think Im going to put a used gear box in it and get them to check the clutch and fly wheel when they are doing so to see if that needs replacing too. Been quoted 260 for labour now plus 350 for a used box with a 3 month warranty. Ive just been looking at clutches and flywheels and am surprised at the high cost of flywheels! Will they be able to look at the flywheel and see it if needs changing? Currently I have a SMF. Cheers

Mine was doing that and now its in the garage needing a new gearbox! Mine has a SMF too. I've got little mechanical knowledge but maybe its the early signs of the gearbox failing? Hopefully not though. -
Thanks a lot. Will get the garage to have a look. Some on ebay don't provide a code just the model and year of car. Do all 2005 Fabia VRS gearboxes fit all other 2005 Fabia VRS's then?

Hi all My 2005 Fabia VRS has unfortuntately suffered a complete gear box failure at 95,000 miles meaning it needs a replacement or selling for parts. Worst thing is that I just spent £500 a few weeks ago to get it through its MOT. Does anyone know any good places to source second hand boxes as I have been quoted approx. £1200 for a new one including labour. Apparently the one in it is completely knacked so cant be reconditioned. Been quoted £400 for labour to replace the gearbox so just need a decent priced gearbox to go in. Suppose I will get the clutch done too as cost will only be 30 mins labour plus cost of parts. Any advice greatly appreciated!
