  1. Can you give links for these? thanks
  2. I remember when I was young the forecast was ok ish for maybe 1 day ahead. Now it's good for 3-4 often. But beyond that there's loads of noise. So global warming is predicted as trends over a few years on average, not precise individual events. casinos make money knowing there'll be reverses in the short term but probability is on their side in the long term.
  3. I enjoyed tonight’s. Not sure how much the the humour is genuine or will develop over time. I thought there was less of jokes at the expense of the people of the country they were in - maybe they’re a bit happier than Clarkson and co ended up.
  4. Accept that this maybe doesn't fit the 'EV' topic... Happy to remove it if you like. I figured I couldn't see being able to afford a full EV with good range until maybe 2023 2nd hand so went for a plugin hybrid. I've had a BMW 225xe for two weeks now. 2016 model with 13k miles; it seemed the cheapest way I could get a 4x4 (kind of) EV. I looked at one at BMW Derby that's up now for £19k though it needs new tyres and doesn't have great options. Electric range is maybe 20 miles tops but that works for most of my journeys. Anything longer and it's a petrol carrying a small-ish battery pack. It's interestingly good at accelerating, but I'm getting into looking after the battery charge and accelerating and braking more gently. I now have an irrational desire to get solar panels too. I'd hoped the NVH would be great: the engine noise is quiet on electric and petrol, but I'm not sure it controls road noise on a bad surface at 60 any better than my Octavia 2 did before 😞 The head-up display is funky. I'm still learning what the buttons do.
  5. I've got an ATD one, maybe about 6 months old now. So far it all still works, but the reversing ultrasonics display is small and doesn't turn on the unit by itself, nor mute the music even though the manual says it does. ATD support didn't say why. The beeps are still there though. I love that it has an equaliser.
  6. I've had a 1.4 tsi auto estate (Jan 2010 reg) for the past 6 years and it's been a good, reliable car, and powerful enough to get into gaps in the outside lane of the motorway. (At least the size of gap that I'd go for). Now at 76k miles and I'm trading it in. Didn't have bluetooth / phone integration so I fitted an Android unit. But there are experts in the forum who can probably help with other options. Can't speak for the other models. (Maybe the 1.8 can have issues with the cam chain though?)
  7. I've got an Octavia 1.4 tsi estate from 2010. It accelerates well enough for me at motorway speeds to get into gaps in the outside lane. I've certainly not been embarrassed in it. The DSG box may help as it drops down smoothly through the gears as needed, especially using kickdown. You might want to ask in the Superb sub-forum though.
  8. Thumbs up to them in my experience over the past 6 years. They fixed a broken tail lamp bulb for free just after I'd bought the car from another garage. Services have been fine. Only minor niggles: one year the pickup time for the service was very late; once the car came from service with poor tracking, but they picked it up the day after and fixed it. I'd happily stick with them if I could get a Skoda now that fits what I'm looking for currently.
  9. Just about to trade in my 1.4 tsi estate (Jan 2010, 76k miles). It's been reliable and efficient. Can't speak for what would happen at 100k though. It has enough power to accelerate reasonably at motorway speeds, and is quiet on a good surface. Also shout out to All Electric Skoda Birmingham (Kings Heath) who've been great in the 6 years I've used them.
  10. Thanks peeps. 'off-topic' and 'roadside hotel' for the win. Except maybe the Brexit threads.
  11. Had a 1.4 tsi dsg Octavia ii facelift estate for 5-6 years. Really great car in many ways, inc engine, gearbox, space, reliability, ac and folding mirrors etc. Only a couple of niggles: the Bolero amp has some weird low bass boost that I hated (so swapped for Android with a good eq), and it would let road noise through on bad tarmac (but I guess VW/Audi have to differentiate somehow). Have probably just put the last tank full in - waiting to arrange delivery of a 3 year old Bmw 225 xe hybrid.
  12. thanks @CWARDfor the Reuters and Washington post links above.
  13. not on the topic of mega cars but... I learned today that eating a load of sweet stuff before bed doesn't feel very good later. Hopefully walking to work will help burn off some of the two million calories that feel like they're in my bloodstream.
