  1. I removed two Torx screws near the fuse panel and two more at the other end of the panel. It is loose but still seems fixed near the top edge. Have I to first remove the lights switch. If so how? Or is it something else? Or am I just a wimp and dare not give it a heave? I have been told that being a nerd I can give you the square root of a jar of pickles but cannot get the lid off. This could be the first proof!
  2. Thank you. What a speedy (brisk ) reply. That is the right 'gizzmo'. Just got to figure out how to get to it and I'm home and dry.
  3. My TCS light started coming on occasionally a month ago. Switching the ignition off/on extinguished it. Then last week I stayed at place only accessible over 7 sleeping policemen. That was it! The warning light came on and stayed on. A garage diagnostics showed code 01423 and 'expert’ recommended changing the G200 sensor for about £350. I read a very good German article on repairing the G200 and I have the skills to do so but cannot locate the b...... thing. Even if I have to buy a new one I shall still need the location. Any help. Anyone. Please.
  4. will this cause any further problems such as decode the keys or the radio?
  5. The buzzer and door warning light on my Octavia II is has stopped working and I suspect a missing earth and here is my reasoning: 1) All door locking functions work as they should. 2) Interior lights work as they should. 3) Rear doors operate the dash warning light. BUT........ 4) Neither front door operates said light and the lights on buzzer does not sound. Now I am no rocket scientist and I cannot find a circuit or wiring diagram yet but I know the general wiring for the buzzer is the live being picked up from the light switch and the earth is provided by the door switch. This says to me that the rear doors and the front doors have separate earths. Now all I need to know is where is the one for the front doors/buzzer.
  6. OK. this is my final try before thowing myself off the highest mole hill in East Anglia! I took the pipe off the nozzle and ran the pump for a good long time. No water came out and the water level in the bottle did not recede. Tried again and after about 2 minutes a slight trickle cam out. Now if memory serves me a little beter than it has done lately there is a washer pump that serves two routes by reversing rotation. My guess is it's one of those and is damaged. My big problem now is getting the kin big bottle out. It looks like a job for the Emergency Services as in removing patient from a crash wreck. A rosey apple and a big wet sticky kiss to anyone who can (will) help.
  7. Thanks Sweed but like I said "Been there. Done that.
  8. The rear washer on my Octy1 does not work:( ... and ... I know there is a lot of post on the subject but please believe me I have searched (and searched again) but most advise is check for a detached hose. Been there done that. I also tried taking the hose off at the wiper and applying back pressure in case there was a kink/blockage somewhere. No joy there! The pump works and I get good pressure on front windscreen and headlights. Now I guess there is an electric valve somewhere that is not working but I cannot see one. Can anyone help??
  9. Bit sharp aint we!!!!!!! I thought the idea was to help each other, not to be sarky. It would be better not to answer.
  10. Think I'll get a solar jobbie even though it's Winter. As long as I get a good one. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
  11. Yes fine - But - Does everything still work 'as was' by just re-connecting?
  12. Due to advancing years (us not the Octy) we always migrate to Spain for the Winter, but every time we come back the battery is in the same state as the Dodo. Anyone know the quiescent current drain or reasonable state of charge for a new Octavia battery? Or any practical suggestions as to what I should expect or what I can do. For instance - If I should disconnect the battery would I have to have any re-programing done when I re-connect?
  13. Dunno BUT next time I shall study the relevant forum BEFORE buying!
  14. Here we go again. Cambelt, cambelt, cambelt. How can a Company (not just this one) design a car in which one of the components needing more attention than any other is so difficulty to get at and is of such poor quality. They trumpet the fact that it needs changing at 120,000 mile then quietly add or 4 years which ever comes first and that bit belatedly. Then there is the water pump. Poor quality plastic impellers! What
  15. I often see SKOSPARES mentioned in various threads and whilst I am sure they are as good as any I am also sure many of us would be glad to hear of others that have been used with success. I am for instance trying to find a breaker in/near Cambridge at the moment and when I do I shall post the results. In the mean time if anyone could help me narrow down the search I will be obliged.
  16. No! No! No! It's not that I don't like it I do but it's a bit like 'would I buy another Roller'. I just can't afford it. Just paid
  17. Thanks for ALL your help. Think we'll close now.
  18. If someone jumps in the drivers seat and makes off then I contributed to the loss of car. Not to mention the loss of MGLW!!! She is not insured and cannot drive (or fight).
  19. This little discussion has certainly pushed the bidding up!
  20. You're right. I must do better. I must do better. I mus........... ..... ....
  21. 2nd Part of same problem: I would not like to leave the key in the ignition and I do not think my insurance Company would like it either. I have the habit of locking the car as I walk away. This is her main fear. I have also demonstrated to her that (if I remembered) I could press the remote lock twice then all she has to do is pull the door handle twice to open the door. If nothing better comes up what I intend to do is fix a remote less the key to the inside of the passengers glove box and paint the 'unlock' button red.
  22. My Good Lady Wife suffers from claustrophobia. Since I (like a fool) demonstrated the anti theft locking system on the Octavia to her whenever she waits in the car for me to pay for fuel etc she insists on sitting with the door open just in case it locks on her. I have tried getting her to hang on to the remote but that doesn
