  1. I know this is a scrubby photo off a phone but it should give you an idea of how this mat set looks. I'm pretty pleased with them; they grip the carpet well and all four are plenty long enough for complete coverage. The only down side is that there are no holes to accommodate the fixing points on the car floor. But that doesn't raise the mats noticeably and overall I'm pleased with them. EBay, £20 for the set of four including postage.

  2. Mine does this all the time and has done for the last 5 years....nothing has dropped of yet.

But you still trust it? Okay! It's your car and your business, I don't presume to know better. But out of curiosity why haven't you tried to fix it? I couldn't live with that noise for a week, let alone five years.

  3. Bloomin' 'eck, get that sorted! That's absolutely NOT the car rolling back on the handbrake. That sounds like something important needs major lubrication or something. It sounds as though something is far too tight with no grease underneath it or something. Either way, I wouldn't like to throw the car into a roundabout all too often with it making that noise. It's a warning of something or other, so if you're happy to do so take the wheel off and try to find what it is.

  4. I will (hopefully) be doing mine this weekend... Dealers don't seem to clean them like they should. Although there is polish residue in the panel gaps so they probably used super resin on it...

I'll be washing, claying, polishing and waxing using Autoglym's Finest selection (got a pot of HD wax too) - anyone used HD wax on black?

I stood and watched a trained Autoglym guy use it on my parents' black Lexus RX. Bloody hell, is it good stuff.

  5. Spent some time giving the new car a good old fashioned clean over the weekend - something the (main) dealer seemed not to understand. Wiping the windows with a dirty rag and blacking the tyres is NOT preparing the car for its new owner. Grr.

Anyhoo, after using a combination of normal car exterior shampoo, Meguiars clay and quick detailer, Autoglym Clean Wheels, AG Paint Renovator (sparingly), AG Ultra Deep Shine, AG Interior Shampoo, AG Fast Glass and AG Metal Polish it looks like this. Not perfect but it's much better than it was.

  6. Buy some online from mytyres.co.uk or camskill.com and get them fitted by a local garage for 10-12 quid a corner. MUCH cheaper way than just popping into you local kwik-fit.

Im just about to order 2 new fronts for mine. Think ive settled for uniroyal rainsports as they seem to get a very good write up. there about £65 a piece on camskill at the moment.

These Uniroyals are on the front of mine, too. They're not bad at all really, although when you're pushing on they can start to get skittish on patchy surfaces. A bit twitchy. They're pretty much brand new though; 8mm of tread still on them, so they're staying on for a looooooong time yet. ;)

  7. Well after coming back from Stoke to Bristol and getting a readout of 91.1mpg for the journey, I think my MPG readout is in fantasy land. A bit of man maths tells me that 330 miles on half a 45-litre tank is NOT what the computer says. Call it an average of 90 indicated MPG for the two motorway journeys totalling 260 miles or so, plus 70 miles of biffing about the two cities, at a guesstimated average of 55mpg on the trip.

It doesn't add up, because 22.5 litres is too much. Assuming 330 miles and 22.5 litres (only guessed off the gauge at this stage), that works out as 66.7mpg. The computer is saying something like 78mpg overall. Ah well! I've still got to brim it and find out what's really what, but I don't think it'll have done over 65mpg by the time reality hits. Not bad at all for an engine as old as Bruce Forsyth, but if I'm honest that trip computer did get my hopes up.

  8. Morning all! Just had to share this. Last night I drove from Bristol to Stoke up the M5/M6 and as is my usual practice on every car I do any serious motorway miles in I stuck the vRS on the cruise control at 60mph to save fuel. I was expecting 65, maybe 70mpg at a push, but when I was approaching my stop in Stoke I found that I'd averaged nearly 90mpg! Wtf?!

Now I'm as aware as anyone that trip computers can be a bit optimistic, so I just wanted to ask whether anyone has tested their vRS's real fuel economy and knows roughly how far out the trip computer is. I'm doing my own brim-to-brim test, but hey, I'm impatient. ;)

  9. Listen chaps, on a forum this size remember one thing... you never know who's reading. Unless you've met them yourself, anybody could be behind a username.

I happen to know that the Rapid is an excellent car as it is, and an ideal base for a vRS version. No, the dashboard isn't mega fancy, but that's not Skoda's way. At least it's easy to understand, logical and miles easier to use than in some comparable hatches. As a daily driver the standard Rapid will take some beating, especially when the basic model is going to cost less than £13k.

I also happen to know that the UK is one of the top two markets in Europe for vRS cars, so if they WERE to build a Rapid vRS, it WOULD come here. My money, not that it has to mean anything to anybody here if they don't want it to, is on a Rapid vRS coming along some time in 2014.

As for a 'hot' Citigo... expect a styling exercise rather than a power hike.

  10. ...searching for other car enthusiasts for friendship and fun times.

Seriously though, this does feel like an ad in the personals. Hi, I'm Matt, living at the top end of Bristol and owner of Fabia vRS SE number 733, hence the username. I see there are a few people around the area, and with a forum this size I'm not surprised. There are more sub-categories here than in Apple terms and conditions; it's hard to know where the fupp to start.

Actually, saying that, I've already posted a request to add number 733 to the vRS SE register. So basically it seems I lied.

Anyhoo, I hope I won't be too regular on here because if I am it probably means my car has problems, and after my last car gave me no end of grief I could do without that. But I'll keep an eye on the meets section and maybe contribute a few things to the photography threads now and again.
