HiRecently put a new cam and followers in my ASZ engine that I replaced earlier in the year due to the bls doing its normal trickBut it's being a right pain to start,,,,I've triple checked and it's 100% timed upInjectors preloaded to all way on and off 180 degrees when on stroke, Retorqued cam and rocker caps down It takes roughly 10 seconds from standing a few hour's to fire, but fires as normal if turned off and back on straight awayBut does chuck out a obvious blue/white smoke as in unburnt fuel when first started that soon clears once running (assume due to turning over but not firing up?!) Checked cam sensor and tried another still no better, I'm thinking tandem pump or fuel issue, I only get a cam sensor fault 16725 but does clear once running? But I've tried a new sensor and when running without the cam senor plugged in I get 012995 so assume the sensor is reading, sadly I don't have vcds to do much more Any suggestions?ThanksDan

Hi Been a while since I've been on here But need a 'mapper' I've tried faboka but seems his sites down and emails aren't working? But I've got a vw caddy with edc 16 ecu ans dreaded bls engine that threw a rod, so it's Got a asv engine with pd130 injectors, 3 bar map, hybrid pd140 turbo with pd170 wheel, decat, open filter etc, it's running using the edc electrics (crank sensor mod, cam pick up changed etc) but chucks smoke out and hunts rough etc, anyone know who can sort a map out like John at hidden power used to? Just to get it to a proper rolling road set up if needs be Thank Dan

Hi I keep intermittently getting p2100 throttle acuator control motor / open circuit I've tired a new ASV and still randomly comes up, on the plug to to asv I've got a battery feed, earth and a 5v feed, but the red/blue wire pin 3 I belive I've got nothing, any one have a wiring diagram or expected value ? Or am I barking up the wrong tree and the Asv isn't related to the throttle acuator control? Thanks dan

Just realised that's a very confusing post! Basically, are the mk4 and mk5 1.9tdi down pipes from the turbo the same apart from the flange or v band clamp? Thanks Dan

Any mechanics looking for a job in the Somerset area?
danny4646 replied to theezenutz's topic in General Automotive Chat
As above, alot of lads are either going down the uni/degree route, and the older lads are retiring, so there's a huge shortage in the middle where the good techs can almost dictate there wage within reason, the know management this, we even now get £12 extra a shift, just because there crying out for people to work, let alone do shift work! Me and another lad have both been weighing up about setting up on our own, one day hopefully -

Same on the HGV side, where offering around £13+ p/hr and still only getting agency or semi skills. its that bad my shift the average age is about 21, me being the oldest at 24!! As a Forman I get paid around £15 p/hr and the skilled/master tech guys are on about £14p/hr, so the moneys there, just no people to fill the boots, but sadly it only going to get worse, the new apprentices wont have any where near the experience me and the older lads have, as there learning from lads less than 10 years older than them, so its pretty bleak across the board -
Hi I'm looking at a new turbo for my caddy, its mk5 golf/touran based, the gt1749 turbo uses the 3 bolt flange, compared to the original turbo a v band, will a down pipe from a mk4 fit a mk5? Or does anyone make or know if there is a adaptor From v band to flange? Thanks dan

Hi Do you do a 6 month cover? My current policy on my car runs out September 4th which falls inline with my birthday and no claims, taking me to 25 y/o and 6 years ncb, but I want to insure my caddy for 6 months then start a full year so it falls inline with my ncb and birthday as its a big difference from 24 to 25,id cancel my current policy but id loose out a fair bit for the sake of 6 months :( also my policy isn't with Adrian flux so cant amend that :( Thanks Dan

Is the turbo available? Thanks Dan

Yep it is petty, we uses to use them all the time, but they put their price right up to £55, where we where paying £30 before but sending minimum Of 2 vans their way a day, but in return we let them use out 60+ton press for wheel bearings, swings and round abouts, so when they put their costs up, we charged them for the press work, and that's when every mit we sent to them failed or got advisory's, fair play if its needed, but when they fail it on brake performance, don't offer a brake test report and then pass it without re inspecting, takes the biscuit if I'm honest, gives garages/mechanics a bad name especially our lads who take more pride in mot passes than there appearances lol
-
Depends on the tester more than anything, yes there's a testing manual but its rare ir gets followed, prime example, took a van in for mot, failed on wiper blades ineffective and park brake performances, our apprentice picked it up, got it back and checked, wipers fine and clear screen as expected and brakes where checked and put in our brake rollers (we have HGV test lane not class 5/7 ) and spot on, took it back for retest and it didn't even get taken into the bay and he wommbles back with a pass certificate, work that out ??!!
