Thanks for the continued advice 👍🏻. I had noticed the new one pop up on Auto trader this morning, I think my budget will have to be north of £13,500 to get what I want really as there’s nothing about for less -

Advice on buying a mk3 vrs
Phil Tomlin replied to Phil Tomlin's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk III (2013 - 2020)
Thanks for getting back to me, I'm in no major rush to change it so I won’t be rushing into buying the first 1 I see, the 1 on the trader I’ve seen but as it’s just over 100 mile from where I live so it’s a bit far just to go & look. I have a trader looking for me as-well so hopefully I will find something a bit closer to home, if anybody heard of one for sale let me know please 👍🏻 -
Hi all, I'm actively looking to replace my mk1 octavia vrs with a mk3 vrs estate petrol manual & im asking what’s the best spec to go for I'm looking to spend around the £12k mark. Ideally I want a car with DAB, Nav & heated seats but the cars I’ve seen for sale don’t have heated seats so has anybody retro fitted heated seat pads & if so what kit was used? Also is there anything I should look at apart from the normal things to look for when viewing vehicles? Any help or info would be greatly appreciated Cheers Phil

Xenon headlamp self leveling
Phil Tomlin replied to Phil Tomlin's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Ok thanks for that, I have vag com lite, is it possible to check it using that -
Hi My n/s xenon headlamp has stopped self leveling, I removed the headlamp & checked to see if the motor had popped off but was OK, so took motor apart & found it had broken, so I have now replaced it with a 2nd hand motor but still doesn't work, o/s is ok, I was going to swap the motors from side to side to see if if I have bought a failed motor or it's a fault somewhere else, before I do this just wondered if anybody else has come across this issue if so what is the fix. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers Phil

Hi Collecting another box later on today, plan is to fit that to keep the car on the road, then strip my original box & find out what the noise is & repair so I no I have a good spare gearbox
-
Hi Just wanted to know roughly how long it has takes to R & I vrs gearbox, 2 hours sound about right, I don't think they look that hard to do, also do the driveshafts have to be removed from the car or just at the box end? I'm also planning to refurb the box I'm taking out, anyone tackled this before? Do I need any special tools to do it & is there anything I really need to pay particular attention to? Cheers Phil
-
Hi I have a noise on 4th gear which is getting worse & starting to grind also, so I'm on the look out for a new box, anything I need to look out for or can I fit any box from the 1.8 t range Cheers Phil

Can you help solve problem? Ford forum cannot!
Phil Tomlin replied to Gsaiev1's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
Hi Take the fuel tank out & check the fuel pump sender for crap in the tank or sender unit itself, also change the fuel filter, when the filter is removed give it a quick shake & then drain fuel out, think it will come out brown in colour. Over the years I have worked in a ford dealer I have come across this problem on a few occasions on the mk 1 focus especially the st170 Cheers Phil -

TT Strut Brace Fittings
Phil Tomlin replied to Phil Tomlin's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk I (1996-2004)
hi its the upper brace, I just want to no if the captive nut setup will be strong enough to take the load & not pull out of the strut tops -
hi all has anybody used a bolt & captive nut setup to fit the brace or is the nut & bolt setup the best to go for, I want to use the captive nut setup for easy removal if needed, I have got 13mm m8 bolts & the captive nuts to fit, would these be suitable to use or would m10 bolts & nuts be the better option? any advice would be great as I cant seem to find any topics on here where this setup is used cheers
-
I run one on my vrs, no issue with fitting, just bolt on & away you go

Hi I've noticed I'm starting to get a whining noise on 4th gear at low rpm when off the throttle, no noise when accelerating & no noise in any other gear no issues with gear selection & the gearbox oil has been changed recently, there was no metal in the old oil drained. Has anybody come across this before? Also I want to change the rear wiper to a flat blade setup like the mk 2, has anybody done this? & has the part numbers for the bits I need Cheers Phil

Hi I want to change the box oil in my vrs & as I work in a ford dealer I have spare ford spec oil, is it worth putting this stuff in it or get the gen vag oil???
-
Hi I had the same thing & I put a tiny bit of oil around the plastic ball, which worked well that was a couple of months ago still good now
-
Cheers, will get one & try it, thanks for the advice
