  1. That'll be trickier to fix, I'm not sure how easy the connectors are to re-wire. You may be better off taking it a garage/someone who knows what they're doing.
  2. Assuming a 1.4 8v engine, on the front of the engine block, about 5 inches right of the oil filter (not the one right next to the oil filter).
  3. I had the same problem a few weeks back. Oil pressure warning light on but oil level was fine. Easy to test if it's a knackered sender, just unplug the black electrical connector and look for oil in it, there shouldn't be any. If there is it's an easy fix, new oil pressure sender was £6.43 inc VAT from my nearest Skoda dealer, took about 10 mins to change.
  4. Thanks for your input mathepac. I don't have an angle grinder myself but I'll see if I can get my hands on one. I haven't got the new part yet but I assumed (from looking at the diagram on vagcat) that the tube coming out of the rear silencer will be the same diameter as the tube from the central silencer and the two are joined with a clamp, the same as the one joining the rear exhaust section to the front section (inc the catalytic converter). The mounts looked fine when I had a quick look but I may get some new ones anyway. vagcat seems to have 3 different types so I'll have to get under the car and find out exactly which ones I need.
  5. The rear silencer on my Fabia 1.4 (AQW) 8v's exhaust is on the verge of rusting through and starting to blow and I'm keen to either replace by or have the parts for its MOT in March. It's still on its factory exhaust so looks like it'll need cutting to replace the silencer. I'm not after replacing it with anything fancy, just a genuine part. This is the first exhaust I've even looked at so I was after some pointers and/or murmurs of encouragement! From vagcat, it looks like I'll need the new rear silencer (6Q9253609AB) and a clamp with bolts (1H0253141B). From reading on the internet and the haynes manual, I'll also need some exhaust assembly paste and a file and wire brush to tidy up the pipe end. Haynes talks about looking for "3 pairs of punch marks" which mark the point at which to cut the exhaust. I've had a look but am not entirely sure where I need to be looking so was hoping that the new part would help me find it. I suppose my questions are .. Are those all of the parts that I'll need? I don't have a power saw so will be doing the cutting with a hacksaw .. is this worth it or should I just accept defeat, hand the parts to a garage to fit for me and have another go next time around when I won't need to cut anything? And finally, can anyone give me a vague price for those parts? Thanks in advance for any help.

I am no expert but I was under the impression that the hex plug on the front of the gearbox is the filler hole, the drain plug (another 17mm hex plug) is on the base of the gearbox, at the lowest point. To drain, you open first the higher one (to allow air in and make sure it isn't stuck), then open the lower one to let the oil out. To refill, re-fit the lower plug and use the higher one to fill it until oil starts coming out of the hole. So long as the car is on level ground, when oil stops coming out of the top hole, it is topped up to the correct level.

  9. Also wanting to change the gearbox oil on my 1.4 8v and I'm after the size of the spline bit needed. Is it M16? Thanks.
  10. Ok .. apologies for the crap mobile phone picture, my digicam seems to have wandered off somewhere. There are 2 drains, the first is on the left hand side of the engine bay, next to the top of the front suspension strut. It's a narrow (~1.5cm diameter) rubber pipe which protrudes ~4cm downwards. Give the sides of it a squeeze to open the end cover and release any rubbish in there. The second drain is in the back wall of the engine bay, just to the right of the engine block and behind the tube running from the air filter box to the throttle body. You may not be able to see it straight away but run your hand down the matting on the back of the engine bay and feel for it. It's rectangular and ~5cm wide. Give it a good squeeze to open the rubber cover and stick your fingers up it to clear any leaves etc. I hope that helps.

  13. For anyone with similar problems, I managed to cure them all by putting some STP injector cleaner into the petrol and cleaning my throttle body following the instructions on: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/cleaning-resetting-throttles/58500/ Hope that helps someone.

  15. I had exactly the same problem and went through the hassle of removing the scuttle cover only for it to make no difference! In the end it was the rubber drain in the engine bay which had just become bunged up and the sides had stuck together stopping it from opening. Might be worth checking that first as it takes a lot less effort! The rubber drain is on the back wall of the engine bay, below the air pipe between the filter box and the engine. Just stick your fingers up it to clear any debris. I think that makes sense .. can post a pic if necessary.
