the truth about electric cars
I used to do this very often when I was younger, but as you get older, you also tend to find that you need comfort breaks more often. I used to rib my poor old mum about the number of breaks I'd have to if I took her out with me for the day to give her something else to look at other than 4 walls, now I can see her problem, however, I still don't feel the need for comfort breaks long enough to do a recharge of a battery, all I need to do is a literal "Splash and dash" 😂

the truth about electric cars
The point is, that not everyone wants or can use a limited range small city car, I would struggle to fit into anything smaller than the car I already have. I'm built like the proverbial **** house, I'm 6ft 4" tall as are all of my sons and we often all go out together, we all have extra large feet, mine especially as they are sized UK 15 extra wide and most cars do not have sufficient space in the pedal box to accommodate them. Yes Zoe and Leaf are going to be fairly cheap now as 2nd hand cars and EV cars that might be useable for me (as an example only) are going to in the way more expensive category, which I would need even if it was just me in the car all time. Shopping wise and doing the work run for the family it would need to be the same sort of size as my current car in order to offer the space for the family and shopping trips, I already have to do at least 2 trips a week and almost fill the 485 litre boot each time, so a smaller car also would mean more shopping trips in order to get it all home, or do online shopping and then you have to accept the fresh fruit and vegetables etc that the picker thinks is OK, and often as not, their idea is not correct. So there are many reasons why people choose SUV, and other larger cars for example. When I had the Qashqui for 2 months, I had to go shopping many times a week which is less than ideal.

@J.R. this video explains the problem, and also wxy087 has also given a similar explanation.

the truth about electric cars
Yours is E-W so how many inverters do you have? It would make more sense to have 1 for each array so that you can extract the absolute maximum from your solar. As to the other 2 people in your close that have similar looking aspects, I sincerely hope that they have been correctly advised, as there are indeed many cowboy companies out there who aren't strictly cowboys in the sense that they do dangerous installations, but can be very economical with the truth when it comes to pay back calculations etc. Well it certainly comes across in that fashion. The above is yet another example of the impression you give that everybody should be buying EVs today if they are in a position to home charge, otherwise you are actually insulting them by saying that is plain ignorance or a 5-year-old adult. Now, I'm pretty dammed sure that if anyone were to use phrases like about you, you would take exception to their arrogance and superior attitude.

the truth about electric cars
At the end of the day, whatever the reasons are, they do not have to comply until 2035 if they want a new car, and even ten can elect to purchase second hand or retain their existing car. They may, and I suspect that there are many people like this sitting on the fence and waiting for the range and support infrastructure to increase or to see if there are inherent problems which make the whole scheme be reversed like Dieselgate? You personally choose to get an EV really early on in the process and you must have had your reasons for doing so, which for whatever reason(s) suited you, but the same cannot be said for everyone, its not a one size fits all scenario.

the truth about electric cars
Also of course, when @wyx087says they don't fit solar arrays, it might be as you point out, on the other side of the roof because that is were the sun hits most. Also of course not all roofs are in the best direction. Plus there is the shade factor, if as much as a single panel receives shade then it seriously affects the output of the others. The same is also true for roofs that point east and west, pointless as the side not in direct sunlight, detracts from the side in the sunlight. To have a big enough wind generator requires planning permission which in most places is not likely to be granted. Then in addition you need a drive and even then your supply might not be able to support a charger, or even if others have chargers, then the collective loading may exceed the main supply for the street and is effecting their ability to have an EV anyway. These are all issues that the Government needs to address and must resolve if they want all new EV car sales to increase year on year.

the truth about electric cars
There is always going to be a reason for their choice of car, maybe they actually need the internal space of that car, like I do. Maybe the reason why some haven't installed rooftop solar arrays is because of cost, weak roof, think they spoil the look of the house (my wife has that view, happy wife, happy life 😊) there may be many reasons for peoples choices. EVs currently do not fit into the life style of many people so its wrong to think badly of those that have not embraced them like you have.

So if you wanted to post a slightly risky photo for instance, you'd click on the spoiler icon in the menu bar, then you'd post your photo then you'd have to click on the spoiler icon again to close the command and post the reply, is that how you do it?

the truth about electric cars
Some of us can go for longer stints without a comfort break. I know a person who has to have a comfort break at each motorway services and does so without fail, even if they are only a few miles apart. Forum software is never optimised correctly for mobile use anyway, it can be a bit hit and miss the results you get on a mobile.

the truth about electric cars
Yes, I think someone has already posted this or similar before. Nothing new in that, even ICE manufacturers inflate their claims, although I'm not aware of any having lawsuits against them except for Tesla who has or is facing a such an event over the perceived poor ranges that some owners are getting. That maybe because the response is so quick to the right foot actions that drivers are being over enthusiastic with the blistering performance on tap that they are just expecting to get that performance with no impact on the range?

@wyx087 So it does I just tried it, thanks so now J.R. and myself know how do that, thanks

So that will delete the quote box?

the truth about electric cars
Yeah, been there a few times myself I don't know if there is a method of doing that maybe, someone more knowledgeable could enlighten us. I only plucked up the courage to try out the multiquote feature the other day, and luckily it worked. Some of the other forums I belong to actually have a preview option so you can see what the final post will look like before you commit to it, that is something I'd love to see here as well? I'd also like to try the "spoiler" feature but I can't find any information about you use that either.

the truth about electric cars
@wyx087 I know all about how the tobacco industry, big oil, big pharmacy etc operate and all the FUD they stir up, it is claimed that the Stop Oil movement is funded by big oil and it is sometimes very difficult to decipher the truth at times, even down to the TFCS who claim that they are not backed by the government, but it seems that is not strictly correct, allegedly. We know that the government bends the rules whenever it suits them, and we only to look at the revelations being unveiled in the way they handled the pandemic and also the dreaded "B" event. Like I said, all will be revealed in the fullness of time, either way, the truth will eventually be revealed, good or bad.

the truth about electric cars
@J.R. No the laws of thermodynamics are not new to me at all but almost every day we actually learn something new that we never knew before and so things change as time advances, so does our knowledge, reference my comment about the development of the nuclear bombs and then peacetime applications for nuclear fission. As to the misquote, I know that is a real pain not being able to undo something, but what I have discovered is that if you do make a mistake, and it is at the start of a new post you're making, you can just close down the application, and then re-open it and the program does not automatically save the event, so you can start with a clean slate again.👍

the truth about electric cars
I watched this very video just a few weeks ago and if it wasn't for people like Charles Algernon Parsons with the courage, the guts and finances to press on after his attempt failed and his brave attempt at changing the Admiralty's reluctance to have another look at his invention than there is a good chance that ships could have been powered like this one for much longer then they were.

the truth about electric cars
The point is and was, that there may be more ways than the one currently being offered towards Net Zero and that we should not ignore the other possible solutions. Ever stopped to think that there may be more to the push to electric than meets the eye over other ideas? Maybe none of the others would offer big oil and energy companies the same revenue possibilities and so have successfully lobbied governments?? Electric is more efficient at the point of use, but the user will probably never get to see the trail of destruction and human cost that the acquisition of the minerals used to make the batteries, leaves behind. I know I have used this term before, but it holds true, only time will tell the truth

the truth about electric cars
When it comes Porsche I'm not sure if turbo means anything more than just being a way to distinguish one model from another, it might not have a turbo. IIRC the 911 range has many versions and some have the turbo in their name but I think they don't have one fitted?

the truth about electric cars
@wyx087Still missing the point, anyway, back then electricity was indeed a luxury that only the rich could afford, but equally so was a car, it took Henry Ford to change things around and that was well after the 1870s, some 38 years before the model T was introduced with its petrol engine and made cars more affordable.

the truth about electric cars
@wyx087All very good, but don't forget that electric cars have been around since the 1800s, went out of fashion and then came again when something magical happened, better battery technology. Likewise, they can go out of fashion again just that if something better comes along. History of the electric vehicle - Wikipedia Interesting that the UK does not even appear on this map, kind of suggests that what ever we do in the UK is not going to make a single jot of difference worldwide.

the truth about electric cars
If we think about all the things that we all take for granted today in our everyday lives, they were all thought impossible just a few generations ago. Was the A and H bomb even thought possible back in WW1 and now we have not only built such devices and used them, but also moved onto nuclear powered ships, subs and power stations. That's why I dont shut my mind to new ideas.

the truth about electric cars
Indeed the above is true and I also seem to recall everyone saying that that space flight was impossible and that man could never set foot on the moon and yet both happened. the truth about electric cars
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think water is the most abundant potential source of both energy and life sustaining substance in the planet. Think about it for a moment, we are supposed to have melting ice caps and rising water levels and the experts predict that mush of the land as we currently know it, will be underwater if we don't slow down global warming. We know that we can split water to release those gases, we just need to find a quick, safe way of doing that efficiently and by recycling the water we will be using it wisely, and we also know that the end result of hydrogen as a fuel is yet even more water so no harmful emissions. So if we can find a way of splitting water, we stand to reverse or at least arrest global warming, stop the ice caps melting further and also have an abundance of clean power that is self replenishing. If we can find a way of doing that in the car as we use the car, then that would be the ideal solution, we can use the water repeatedly without feeling guilty about it, it is also an inert material to safely transport around the world and relatively easy to do, via existing pipelines, no need for large fleets of road tankers carrying volatile hydrogen, no need for massive storage locations of it either. So whether it be hydrogen, or hydrogen fuel cells or even the water engine, they all ultimately rely on hydrogen, so those re the paths that I think we should be really looking towards for the future of transport. What could be greener, zero waste to dispose off and an everlasting power source.

That must mean water engines don't work then.
