  1. It could maybe be one of those duff far eastern cards which is pretending to be a better card than it really is. Or on the other hand, it could a problem with your radio, some things will only accept cards of a maximum size. I have across that with dash cans and also some cameras will lock up if you try to use a bigger card.
  2. Just found this video of a Tesla that has done 430,000 and is still on its original battery! I had to play this twice to make sure, but he claims to be getting free Tesla Supercharging as long as he has the cars for and that makes a huge impact on the overall cost of buying and running of the cars, I bet Tesla are no longer running that particular scheme. The fact that there does not seem to be any Tesla owners coming forward to dismiss the claims that the batteries do die to a large extent after a few years, despite all the claims that the batteries do degrade, makes this claim seem too good to be true or just a lucky coincidence, we shall find out a bit more over the coming weeks.

Based on the costs of the cars and then factoring in the cost of doing 202,600 miles at todays prices brings the total cost of ownership (excluding VED, running repairs, insurance etc) to:- Tesla £77,929 Octavia £58,480 So diesel Octavia actually costs £19,449 less and has a very good chance of the engine still being very good and running sweet as a nut at the end of the period, the battery on the Tesla?
  4. By video rated I assume you mean that they V10 rated? I just upgraded my dashcam from a Nextbase 512GW to Nextbase 622GW and the cards that worked perfectly in the 512GW will not work at all in the 622GW. I had to purchase a special card rated for 4K video to get the dashcam working, so I suspect it is a speed issue.

My last fill up was 530 miles 60.9 litres @ £90.72 while not as efficient as yours @10.81 miles per litre, was not bad seeing as it does more short journeys ferrying family members around the city to and from their places of work, shopping trips and trips to visit MIL 3 times a week so my other half can be her carer some mornings, and these trips always made during the rush hours.
  6. He is most certainly a Tesla fanboy for sure, as for other EVs being "duff" that is simply guff. The real problem is, just like ICE, there is no standard location for the charging socket / fuel filler to be and obviously Tesla are going to make their chargers suit their own cars. He even admitted that they were V3 chargers and the V4 ones had longer cables to accommodate different locations. He also made very hard work of exiting that car park, OK his car only has a 12m turning circle, but I'm pretty sure that he could get out much easier. Hell, my car is longer than his, and it has a turning circle of 11.7m, and I could out of that car park much easier.

Correct, it was 2022 Jag Ipace, I wouldn't read too much into where they were dousing, it could be that there was fire inside the car and/or they were trying to locate the HV battery isolator and of course it could be that there has not yet been found a universal way of actually dealing with EV battery fires, but this does not look like a battery fire. There is no sign of any flames at the time the video was taken and the smoke/gas was greyish so it could just have been a normal car fire caused by anything, smoking, electrical etc and they have already knocked it out and the clouds were residue smoke and steam from the water they had pumped into it. The traction battery did not look like it had been involved at that point otherwise there would still be flames coming below and around the car, so all signs in the video look like just a normal interior fire. This video shows what a typical EV battery is on fire, looks like, witness the huge gas cloud being ejected at great pressure, then the flamethrower effect when ignition occurs and how quick the tyres burst, then the building in front also catches fire, scary.

That is exactly how I strive to drive and always have done for the last 57 years, can't be doing too badly at it as I have never collected a fine or points on my licence and for something around 40 years, I would have lost my job if I collected enough points, so I've always employed whatever gadgets I could get to help out as I was having to drive all other the UK and so was often in strange places and speed cameras etc have nasty habits of hiding from view until It's too late.
  19. @crankcase, that is how I think it will work for now, but I can foresee the time when it will set the max speed for you. Yes, my Superb speedo reads exactly as yours and I find it very irritating that the cruise control will only allow me to adjust its setting in 5mph steps, so I find myself trying to push the car a little extra on the throttle and then engage the cruise control. My TomTom satnav does all the bonging for me if I exceed the speed limit by 2-3mph.
  20. I hope your right, because it could serious problems if it does start to adjust your speed. They can't even get sat navs to provide 100% correct information even now.
  21. ICE was me, thinking about the amounts of pollution that generate when compared with a 2 litre max sized engine. Just taking those big engines out of the equation would make a huge reduction in the pollution levels. Truth is, however, that these limiters will be fitted to electric vehicles, so maybe, just maybe, we might see a big shift away from the blistering acceleration these cars can do for more sensible HP motor and thus way better ranges as a result? As to the other items you mention, most newer cars have some of these already built in.

With all new cars sold in the EU and UK after July 7th this year having to be fitted with a mandatory speed limiter to keep vehicles within the speed limits for the type of road they are on, what is the point of having big powerful ICE vehicles any more? UK to mandate speed limiters in new cars from July 2024 | Regit These devices will controlled by GPS and also by reading speed signs, but they can also be temporarily overridden off and automatically reset when starting the engine again. I can predict many problems with these devices, such the GPS being given the wrong speed limit on some roads, or a speed limit sign being blocked by a large vehicle etc so the camera is unable to adjust the speed, thus meaning you could be driving above the limit or limited to a lower speed because the device is sure of where you are and have a risk of being rear ended by others who will automatically speed up. I can see insurance companies refusing to honour any claims if they discover that the accident was caused by the driver overriding it.
  23. This is not quite an electric car, but nonetheless it is fully electric and could well become a familiar sight around the UK soon.
  24. Mudflaps are not only something for seniors and also have nothing to do with tuning or gimmicks. Their real purpose is to protect the body of the vehicle from mud damage and, above all, from small stones and other foreign objects that are thrown up by the tires and thrown at the body and paint of the car with considerable speed and force. This can cause damage that, in my opinion, is much more unsightly than the mud flaps themselves.
