New or improved hubs announced, Government EV Loans in Scotland and free & no longer free public charging places..
Your confusing the issue, yes I know the electric is not free but it is to the EV owner, yes I know the trust is a rip off and expensive, it's just the same in England, Scotland does not have the exclusive rights in that dept I assure you. The point I was trying to make (maybe badly) was that you often post about various chargers in Scotland be it council run or what ever, many of those you say have been free. Who gives away free liquid fuel to ICE drivers, no one. If I could afford to purchase an EV then I could certainly afford to pay for the electric, add in free VED and someone else is paying. That is not a level playing field. If people decide to buy a EV then they should be doing so because that is their choice, not because of incentives being given. The only incentive that should be on the table is the ability to charge cheaply at home or on destination chargers, like at work, or if staying in a hotel.

I'm not in any way decrying what you say about destination chargers, but just 2 of them? What happens if you have more than 2 people wanting to charge, I know that I would, especially for free. In this case as they are effectively run by National Trust Scotland, I expect that they are charging for the car parking or admission then and so the chargers are being funded via that route?

The Superb III Picture thread
True its not and I can get it that you're a car enthusiast, so am I, but for me its more about safety enhancements than bling that appeal. In fact it would appear that it is looking increasingly likely over here that any modifications of any sort that deviate from the manufacturer's standard product offering will be heading down 1 of 2 routes, either will be banned, or have to be notified to the DVLA and approved by them before the car will be allowed on the roads. Just how the heck they can effectively police such plans, currently beats me, I can't see a way that can be enforced other than if involved in a accident and modifications are detected the insurance companies instantly withdraw any cover leaving the hapless motorist exposed? That's a can of worms best left alone in my view, fingers crossed it never gets implemented.

Actually, they are not free, other taxpayers are paying for the EV owners to get cheap motoring which is not really fair is it, we are all paying enough in tax without allowing others to free load. It is not a level playing field for everyone, which it should be and 7kW is somewhat limiting in its usefulness and also very limited numbers and access times in the case of the Museum.

The Superb III Picture thread
Oh I can see the appeal to certain people who like to be the centre of attraction, personally I'd rather be the wolf in sheep's clothing with upgrades that added greater functionality without shouting about it, like mudflaps to protect the bottom of the doors and rear wings from stones and mud flung up from the tyres, or headlights that gave far better performance without dazzling other drivers. Anything like these door handle lights are really nothing more than eye candy for others, the driver will gain zero benefit from while driving.

Always could be located in the dark before courtesy of the remote key fob operating the lights when unlocking, or are they concerned that modern owners/drivers with KSSY system don't know how to press a button on a key fob?

What have you done to your Superb III today?
I used WD-40 silicon spray with straw applicator so I could poke it through the vent slats to make sure that the silicon got into the mechanism and less over the vents. ULEZ and other similar schemes we are being told are all about clean air for everybody but are they really just a means of making money from motorists?
Take your pick, there is the BVAC Classic show at Thirlestene or there is the Bo'ness Car Show, or of course it could just be a load classic car owners with 40+ year old LEZ exempt cars protesting about LEZ? Will you be going along and having a look?

the truth about electric cars
If it gets people interested in getting one, then its a good thing surely, as long as its not an expensive gimmick, should make the transition easier and more palatable for some.

Did you just spray through the top 2 dashboard top vents?

the truth about electric cars
I was once told by someone involved in shipping cars that it is standard practice to put just 5 litres of fuel in cars as they only need to drive them off the production line, into the car park, then onto a transporter lorry, for delivery to the docks and then driven up the loading ramp to the ship and parked for the transit. Then get loaded onto another lorry to the dealer and that's it. That enables them to clear the production lines quicker without causing hold-ups, saves them a load of money in fuel costs, and also the amount of storage costs, also of course enhanced safety when on board the ship, less fuel to burn should there be a problem.

Back in April last year I had the misfortune to have my car written by someone else, this started a massive car hunt for a replacement and some may remember I posted some photos of a white Superb which looked odd, and I thought that it might have been hiding something, I post these photos again here. To cut a long story short it was, at the time I had a loan car and the insurance company indicated that they wanted me to accept their valuation of my old car, and they wanted the loan car back. I'd driven well over 1,000 miles looking at other Superbs, and none of them lived to what I was looking for. I spotted this white one on Autotrader and as all the good cars had been snapped up within a day or two of being listed, I phoned the instant it appeared for sale, was told that the car had not been prepped yet so was not ready for viewing, so I decided to put a deposit down to hold it so when it was ready, I had first refusal, as long as the deposit was refundable, I was told yes. When the car was ready, I was called to view it. Off I went, with my son to London, when we got there the car was soaking wet from where they had just washed it, the inside was not prepped to any real degree, the car had its chrome trim put back in place and was hanging off in places, the windscreen has massive cracks in it, doors and bumpers had dents and scratches and the tailgate was very noisy in operation. The photos used in the listing never showed any of these, apart from the chrome trim was missing. I rejected the car, and then they refused to refund me as promised, I had a feeling something was wrong at the time, so I paid the deposit with my credit card for the extra security. My bank got my money back for me. I did some checks on the car while I was waiting for it to be prepped and discovered that they had actually used photos of the car, taken a year earlier, just prior to its MOT in March 2022 and the car had a fresh MOT on it when I saw it, that had already alerted me that this car was dodgy, and guess what, the dealer still has this same car on sale today and is still using the 2022 photos of it in the listing. I'm so glad my spidery sensors were working when I placed that deposit and not used my debit card, which I would normally have done. Tomorrow, 1st of June I'll have owned my current Superb for a whole year, and while it had 140,000 miles on the clock, it has proven to be a pretty good car overall, all the major items timing belt, water pump, brake discs, pads etc had been done, yes It's had a few minor issues since I got it, but is to be expected on a high miler. It passed the MOT again and breezed through the emission test, so all looking good.

Haha so HMS Unicorn might be a better attraction after all then?

That would only really true for traffic that was coming into Dundee and going onto other places such as Perth, Forfar or Arbroath etc. Local traffic i.e wanting to go to or from the University of Dundee, to Hilltown or Stobswell etc would more than likely use the A991 and not cut across the city centre, the entire A991 inner ring road, which forms the boundary of the city centre is actually less 1.75 miles in length and the centre itself is just about half a mile North to South and East to West. The A90 is roughly 1 mile further North then the most northern part of the A91, so is not near to the centre at all.

Here you go. Pros and Cons of LFP Batteries LFP batteries have been making waves in the world of energy storage due to their unique properties and attributes. Like any technology, there are also some pros and cons associated with the use of this type of battery. Pros Safety: Unlike other lithium-ion batteries, LFP batteries are less likely to overheat or catch fire and can withstand overcharging and mechanical stress. This is because LFP batteries have a more stable structure than conventional lithium-ion batteries. Longevity: LFP batteries can last up to 10 years, while traditional lead-acid batteries only last about 3-5 years on average. This makes LFP batteries an excellent investment for those looking for a reliable, long-term power source. High Power Density: This means that LFP batteries can deliver a lot of power in a small package, making them an excellent choice for portable devices that require high levels of energy. Compatible with Solar Charging: This means that not only do LFP batteries store energy effectively, they can also be charged through renewable sources. Cons Higher Initial Costs: LFP batteries are made from high-quality components and require specialized manufacturing processes, which can drive up the price. For organizations or individuals operating on a tight budget, this can be a major drawback. Lower Voltage: Compared to other types of batteries, LFP batteries have a nominal voltage of 3.2 volts per cell, which can create compatibility issues with many electronic devices that require a higher voltage to function properly. Lower Efficiency at Extreme Temperatures: If the temperature drops below a certain point or rises too high, the battery's ability to hold a charge will decrease significantly. This can be a major issue in certain contexts, such as in the use of electric vehicles in cold climates or in applications that are exposed to extreme heat. While there are ways to mitigate this problem, such as using specialized cooling or heating systems, these can add significant cost and complexity to the overall system.

So do the nasties rise straight up into the sky from the A991 inner ring road then and not blow with the wind into the small LEZ area? Traffic that might have driven through the zone, now has to go round it on the A991, which I suspect much of it did anyway seeing as its effectively a dual carriageway and should be faster anyway?

There are always 2 sides at least to things, I like to learn about those sides, the pros and cons. I don't do blind faith and follow the pied piper blindly. 🙄

the truth about electric cars
Correct, the amount of chemicals remains the same, but the energy stored in the battery is the concern and that energy has to go somewhere, after all an explosion is just a release of energy.

the truth about electric cars
Or indeed in and around lots of other places. You can bet the conspiracy people will have a field day with that. Also remember, no one is stating that the battery started the fires, only that the involvement of them in the fire made fighting it almost impossible to do.
