ggggrrrrrrr @ mobile tyre fitters

Featured Replies

Ordered some 225/45/17 tyres from Event Tyres to go on the OH's vRS and replace the std 205s

They tyre man turned up today and refused to fit them, saying they would bow out and be unsafe on the std alloys. (7 inch wide iirc)

As I am at work, and he was fitting them at home and speaking to the OH, he charged her the difference and ordered 205s to be fitted later.

After a few phone calls he is now coming back to fit the 225's but it won't be until Monday as he is now in the time slot for other fittings.

Looking at the forum suggests that the 225 is a much better suited tyre to the wheel so I assume I am correct by telling him to fit the wider tyres.... Hope I haven't made a mistake and it will look like it is riding on 4 balloons

They will be fine don't panic !!!

They don't any different imho.

IMHO 225 tyres looked to fit better than the 205 on the vrs wheels. I didn't have any problems when I upped the size.

"Doesn`t know what he`s doing" what a p**t

Lol

225/45/17 are standard fit anyway aren't they?

Some sources say 225s are standard, others suggest 205s are the widest standard tyres.

Either way, anyone who says a 225 is not an allowable fitment on a 7" rim is talking total ballcocks!

Cheers guys. I thought I wasn't going bonkers but wanted to be sure ;)

The fitter told my OH that I must have taken the tyre sizes from my own car (vRS mk2) and thought they were the same. Despite the fact that mine has 18s on.... doh.

Still, as the saying goes - you pay peanuts.....

Generally i use Etyres.co.uk and can say Not all mobile fitters are like that.

The last time I got tyres he came to the house and got on with the work, and the guy knew his stuff too and was finished all 4 corners in about 1 hour, after lots of chat and a tea break.

I hope you don't band all mobile fitters into the one category as many are genuine decent fitters, I now keep the mobile fitter's direct number (2 jobs completed by him and also free puncture repair) and bypass the website:thumbup:

tbh I normally use blackcircles who use a local fitter that is known to somebody where I work.

Trouble is they couldn't get anywhere near the price of Event so went there.

For my car it doesn't need to be the cheapest as work pay for the tyres, but Event were nearly £70 cheaper than anybody else for 4 tyres.

I won't let it put me off as I've had good experiances from others, just might think twice before using Event again.
