Sump capacity

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 2000 (X Reg) Octavia with the 110 TDi (non PD) lump under the bonnet. I'm planning on doing an oil and filters change at the weekend, but have hit some confusion with the sump capacity. If i select my engine on the Opie Oils website, it tries to sell me 6 litres of oil in the "oil service pack" - however, i have a copy of the Autodata system on my laptop which says the oil capacity for both variants of the 110 Octy in a 2000 Octy is 4.5 litres.

Is Autodata wrong? or are opie oils selling you 6 litres so you have some spare for the times between services? I like to have a little to "carry over" - but 1.5 litres seems excessive for 10k miles or so!

4.5 litres rings a bell for me, I must admit. I use about a litre per 10000 miles, but I think my usage is worse than most (not that I think it's bad!) Mines a PD, of course, but my understanding is that the block and sump are the same for all 1.9 diesels...???

I think my TDI 110 was 4.5L.

It was certainly over 4.

What I would do would be drain it, do the filter and do everything back up put in 3.5L and then leave it 10 minutes. Check the level and add another .5L

That should be somewhere near the min to midway mark on the dip stick. You can then just top it up.

Millers sell the oil by the 5L rather than 4L so you won't need to buy the extra 1L pack.

4.5l sounds about right. Oh and I think that 1l / 10_000 miles is a high oil consumption, but it's well within spec according to VAG.

The PD's use more than the old TDI's in my experience.

4.5 is right - used to get charged for 9 times 0.5 units during a service
