Cigarette Lighter Position & 12 Volt Source

Featured Replies

Only second post so please be gentle.

I have a Fabia 2007 1.9TDI Level 2 and have recently starting using a GPS unit in the car. I have a problem with the cable running from the cigarette lighter which is well back, past the handbrake, and then up the dash. I have used small sticky cable tabs to prevent the hand brake (or gear change) being snagged.

Anyone have a better idea? Is there anywhere else to take the 12 volt supply from, closer to the dash, preferably unswitched?

I did think of one of these cigarette lighters with extension cable but don't want to make the inside of the car look ugly.

I use sticky cable ties as well - presume its there due to rear passenger asses to the 12V sorce.

My TOMTOM works fine with it as it is. But like you was a little suppriced it was so far back

Mk1 octy was bad for this as well.

Have a look in your fuse box for un-used fuse location, buy a new 12v power socket from a dealer, get an inline fuse holder and wire it in/fit it somewhere more local. Probably cost you £10 to £15 max and it will look factory fit.

Exacly what I did

I just run the cable down the side of my seat, then hook it around the fore/aft adjuster lever and then up to my sat nav. But then mine is on a home-made vent mount, so the cable goes more-or-less straight up, rather than having to run over the dash to the windscreen...
