Do Parrot's go cheap?

Featured Replies

I am looking into getting a Parrot Bluetooth system fited to by Occy (Parrot 3200LS colour Kit). Vindus Skoda cambridge is quoting around £220+ including fitting. They appear to send the car out to a local suppplier fitter but at least my warranty would remain intact.

However halfords are currently quoting £130 for the unit, £20 for the cable and £20 for fitting. £50 cheaper.

Does anyone know a skoda dealer doing this cheaper?

Buy the kit and fit yourself.

Plenty of info here, and easy to do ;)

dont trust halfords with it.

why not???

I am a halfords fitting and i do a mighty fine job thank you

Mine cost me about £100 to buy a couple of years back and I made up a custom wiring loom such that it takes power, switched live and ground from the fuse box. The only connection to the radio is the mute wire and the input leads via the green connector.

IMHO this is better than piggy backing it and required about £5 worth of parts from your VAG dealer and none of the extra leads. In that case total cost would be £120 for the item, £5 for the parts and either fit it yourself (not hard).

I helped a mate fit one in his Passat. Pretty easy and didn't take long. But for 20 quid is it worth mucking about?

Yeah agree with Rob i'd rather spend another 20 quid and have the peace of mind that it's bob on!!

Anyway I didn't think Parrots went cheap. That's budgies??

Yes but when halfords etc fit it they usually use the piggy back leads which don't connect to the Telephone audio in on the head unit.

They then have to run a switched earth (but often don't) so the thing doesn't turn on or off with the ignition.

Hence run three wires from the fuse box to the parrot and three wires from the parrot to the head unit and it all works as it was meant to by skoda.

had mine fitted at Halfords and had to rewire it myself as it was wire to a permenant live and would connect my phone to the car when it was sitting outside of the house.

This despite it being well known that VAG cars do not have a switched live in the radio wiring, you need to take a switched supply from the fuse box.

Nothing useful to add, but I loved the thread title:thumbup::D

I wondered if it should have read "cheep" :D

I can only speak for myself then, but when i fit a kit. I always make sure it has an earth, a switched live and a constant live.

I also wire in the mute lead so that it mutes the radio properly and displays "phone" on the display.

Must have been a rubbish store you went to. School boy error not running a switched live from the fuse box.

but I appreciate that not all apples in any barrel will be bad.

i could mention buying a bike from halfords that was checked (supposedly) before we left the store only to find heading towards the back of a now stationary car that the brake cables were not tight resulting in making a rather rushed manouvre to get round it and find a way of stopping the bike with now no brakes.

In response to the title of the post, no I think they just go squake!
