erm... I didnt know it was remapped

Featured Replies

lets just say just bought a vrs that was previously re-mapped, but u didn’t know and then smack wallop! yr in a crash, surely this cant void your insurance as you never knew it was re-mapped in the first place?

Probably would do. It would be hard to prove that you didn't know.

Simon

you'd have to prove it, which wouldn't be easy.

Do they actually bother to check though? I mean surely if the car is totally standard otherwise they're not going to bother checking. And also surely a remap isn't traceable as such, only tuning box, resistor jobbies?

check? mostly no but would you want to be the one caught out?

Lets put it this way if the oops is a big one with a new ferrari or some one is badly hurt they will do anything not to pay!!!

If your asking here and now, you will probably have trouble defending yourself if such a time was to come in the future.

I thought it was standard practice for an assessor to download a copy of the ecu...

You have a fiduciary duty to disclose all material facts (although what's material is a matter of debate, so you should really just disclose *everything*)

I've always had this view on it........If they are going to be bothered enough to check, chances are its a big pay out ie. write off........and if it is the latter, good chance the car is undrivable and not able to get on rollers to check.

With only a laptop need nowadays, I would think Insurance companies would ask as standard to check the ecu.

If they wanted to not pay out then they would find a reason!

I just hope everyone running non standard brake pads have told their insurance brokers
