Help removing a rear bumper

Featured Replies

Greetings all, I have just purchased a Skoda Octavia 4x4 Estate (registered 2006) and I wanted to put a tow bar on it (as I did on my last car) but I cannot work out how to get the rear bumper off. Any suggestions as to where I can get the details from?

Did this yesterday and found the following link very helpful. Any particular questions please ask. I fitted a Towtrust with 7 wire bypass relay so did not need to strip the trim out to get to the dashboard, just up to the rear seats. This towbar is fitted with a detachable ball so when not in use does not interfere with the reversing sensors.

What do you mean just up to the rear seats? I thought you have to run a wire from the boot up to the fuse box under the sterring wheel to get power for the 7-way bypass relay?

Why just up to the rear seats? I thought you had to run a seperate wire from the boot up to the fuse box under the steering wheel to provide power for the 7-way bypass relay?

I took the power feed off the 12v aux socket in the boot (my car is an estate) Fitted an inline fuse and carefully protected the cable run.

This is not recommended by some who are more knowledgeable than me, ''but you pays yer money and takes yer choice''

I calculated the loads I would be applying to socket and trailer lights and would not sell the car with the towbar fitted.

Greenmachine, I don't suppose you have a guide on the correct wiring for your Octy towbar electrics? I have got some from Towequipe but they don't match up with 50% of the wiring which is a little frustrating... towbar all on, feed run through the car from fuse box (hatch so no aux available in the boot) but stumped on the socket wiring DOH! I have had a go with my multimeter but i seem to be getting odd reading on some connections so thought I best ask before I do any damage :D

I also used a Towequipe relay and had the same problem. I solved it by identifying which bulb did what then tracing the feed back through the the metal strips in the light housing to the connector block. This gave me the correct wire to tap into (Scotchlock:eek:). You will need to run a single wire from one side to the other for the indicator. Before connecting I drew up a chart with wire colour coding and double checked it. Sorry chart got lost:(.

Hope this is clear.

It's nice to see that tow-equipe are providing reliable information for self-fit towbars :)

I had already been checking the connections to see which wire does what on the light clusters, am I right in assuming that they use a shared tail light/brake light feed? I assume they must do otherwise there are not enough connections to activate all functions in the cluster.

You are right, I had SWMBO press the brake to identify which of the tail lights was acting as the brake light. The same applies to the fog light. I understand that in the event of a bulb failure the system knows and uses an alternative bulb.
