rubbing issues with 18" wheels

Featured Replies

hi there i just got a set of rs4's with 225/40's and when i got a couple of people in the back and go over a bit of rough road it rubs the inside of the arch it is running on standard springs 1.9 tdi 100 bhp chipped was going to lower it but now i'm unsure anyone help please :(

I've had 18's on for ages and its lowered quite a bit with no rubbing. Are the rims the correct offset? Think they should be ET 35.

Agree your offset must be different thats what is causing it.

the offset is et 35 but it only happens when the car is full and going over speed humps or if there is a dip in the road as if it is compressing too quickly

Get your bump stops checked out on the rear dampers, these should bottom before the wheel makes contact with the arches. Its a long shot but have you got a buckeled rim? You probably wouldn't notice it on the rear but this could also cause this or a loose wheel arch lining.

Hiya.

I think you're maybe running too high a section? The usual is a 225/40R17, for a rolling radius of 305.9mm, and you've got 318.6mm.

So the ways round it would be either to have the rear arches rolled, or come down to 225/35s if possible.

Hi

I got a vRS wi std susp(at mo) and I have 225 40 18" on and when I have a full load mine scrapes a bit too, i think if you get lowwered susp it is stiffer so youll be ok. all it is it that the wheels you got on are the fraction bigger than standard and they are wider so instead of folding inside the plastic liner they just catch the edge a fraction,

just dont tack passangers lol
