New vRS owner - few questions

Featured Replies

Hi,

Picking up my vRS Saturday, and it will be my first front engined Skoda - Estelles before that:).

I am fairly sure that there will be no troubles (car will be garaged and cared for), and as it is still under warranty, I will just clobber the dealer if there are any mechanical probs. What I am slightly worried about is other road users. On my 5 mile test ride I was cut in on and the person in front started pressing the brakes on and off:mad:. They then drove away at over the speed limit:thumbdwn:. Is being picked on something I must get used to or is this a rare occurrence and I was just unlucky? I thought that Skoda had got over the bad rap that they used to get - I am very rarely hassled in my Estelle - they just overtake and go - no bullying.

Concerning the windows, I wanted to get some cool air in, but when the button was pressed the window shot down too much, and then when I wanted up, it closed all the way. How do you get the windows to just open a cranny?

Lastly, I would appreciate any comments or hints that would make my introduction to the Fabia a bit easier - to get me started as it were.

Thank you, Ian

Ian,

Congrats and your new car! Sounds like you were just unlucky with the lobotimised fool who hassled you. I very rarely get any harrasment at all.

Window-wise, just be gentle and it should work fine.

ENJOY! :)

Jon

Yep, just dont push the button all the way down.

You'll get used to it.

And that other driver was obviously just a kn0b ! :D

It's quite subjective and I am sure there are other views but I used to get some serious stick in mine. The Corsa kids would want to have go, the Scooby owners would want to prove a point and the Jag owners would want to make you feel inferior. You do need a cool head to start with but if your secure in your reasons for owning the car then ignore them and smile ;)

The windows... think there is something in the manual that might sort that but off the top of my head I cannot remember what it is. They will do what you want you just have to do something to change it! Sorry for being a bit vague!

Push it down until it clicks (this will activate the auto open), then just pull up one notch to stop it at the desired height (at least that's how it works on mine)

hi, i hope you enjoy your vRS :)

the incident above sounds like a one off, i've found my vRS attracts much

less attention than my previous impreza turbo and it was odd but i was much less worried about leaving it in a city centre street overnight even though it was worth

double the value at the time.

as for little tips a search on here usually provides an answer.

eg - fuel filler flap not closing.

- ventectomy to increase fuel tank capacity

- which tyres.

- how to work the trip mpg/ave speed/range trip1 v trip 2 etc

and as for modifications well that's a slippery slope i'm yet to start on

cheers matt

with the window, just push/pull it gently to work as normal, and harder to use auto up/down.

Thanks for the comments:).

OK - I will spend some free time reading back on the older postings - always enjoyable!

Concerning the hassle from other drivers, that is a shame, and has dissapointed me a bit to hear - I thought that that was all over with now with the bettre image. Guess not...

In my 105 Estelle, when people want push past, I signal left and pull over - looks like I will have to continue that with even the newer Skoda. I always catch them up at the lights anyway:P.

Cheers, Ian

I've had my vRS for about 8 months and never had a bit of trouble from other drivers, and trust me I would notice as I drove a silver Astra before (most inconspicuous car ever!)

I suppose the more 'cosmetic' mods you have done to the beast will maybe attract more attention on the road, but if it looks standard I wouldn't imagine you'll have any bother.

It's standard and silver - so hopefully problems on the road will be few:).

Out of interest, my most used speed is 55 mph (A roads) and 65 mph (Motorways). For a September 2005 model, will it push 6th gear at those speeds, or is leaving it in 5th a better bet for economy?

Ian

6is fine at those speeds, just don't boot it if you want to overtake, I'd advise dropping to 5th/4th to save the clutch.

I would tend to agree with Decron here, I do get a bit of stick in my VRS from time to time from other drivers, I would say about 70-80% of which can be dispatched with a bit of uch um "spirited" driving from the next roundabout or traffic lights (where safe obviously).

The thing is people that know about cars know the Fabia VRS, and the hype it has had on top gear and fifth gear have made it out to be a bit quicker than it really is in standard form, so you do get the odd berk thinking "ohhh its one of them VRS's".

And obviously yeah the odd little snot in a Corsa or Saxo thinking "its a horrible skoda", they are most enjoyable to dispatch with

Thanks for the comments. What I appreciated in the VRS was the supportive seats and willing engine - traits that my 136 (ex) Rapid shared. I don't like seats that allow me to slide about when cornering:(. I know the VRS badge is nice to use, but I almost wish that Skoda had been even more restrained and just called it 'TD' or something similar. I used to like the 'Surprising Skoda' tagline - and even the unassuming 130 Estelle has caused some shock to other road users at the lights - blam - it shoots away, BUT is was descreet and did not advertise with badges or spoilers, and that is what shocks other road users the most;).

Ian

You can always take the vRS badges off. :)

HeHe - thats almost worse :):)- those de-badged cars make people look harder and expect the worst at the lights:D.

Ian

Ian,

You've got a PM
