Furby - Streaky wipers

Featured Replies

Hello All,

long time reader (long time SCN poster) and first time post.

We brought SWMBO a Furby vRS last November (we love it) and has been great so far apart from a few niggles (the aircon only blowing cold on low so sensor needs replacing) but the biggest by far is the streaky wipers.

When we brought it, it had cheap Champion blades on that were on their last legs and left streaks across the screen in front of the driver at the height of where the blade attaches to the arm. I thought it was just old blades so have replaced them with TruPart aero retro fits and they do the same.

So I spent Sunday cleaning the screen with Halfords glass cleaner and vinegar as well as the blades, same result. So I took the VW Golf retro fit blades off my Toledo and put it on in place of the TruPart. It was a slight improvement but the same effect. I have tried to photo it but was really hard!

It's quite dangerous as it leaves a big streak right in your vision and doesn't clear properly. They do judder slightly and squeak as well which annoys SWMBO! It seems to be worse as well the more water on the screen and where the passenger side leaves the water it wipes up it streaks even worse.

So any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks

If you've swapped blades and still have the same issue, I'd suspect something is still left on the screen, despite your cleaning efforts. Could be a bit of stubborn, ingrained oil or diesel perhaps?

I'd try some glass polish, to see if that helps any.

flatblades are good

This is where I got my Aero Blades from.

Was told that because they were cheap they'd be rubbish... Nothing could be further from the truth. Been as good as gold and have been on there a while now with no loss in performance.

Tend to agree with Steve.

Sounds like the screen still has something sitting on it.

I had a similar problem and after about 4 attempts with the Glass cutter it seems to worked. Persistance is whats needed.

Having spoken to Sparshatts in Chichester it was suggested to try some stock Fabia blades (and at £13 it's not gonna break the bank).

I will try some more elbow grease on the screen. Recommended ways of doing so?

Einzett do a very good glass polish which worked well on mine, and they do an excellent screen cleaner additive.

you might want to give these a go mate:

Car accessories: exterior, interior car care, Meguiars, 303 Products

i got some for my wipers which were really noisy - especially the rear one and were getting a bit streaky. its dead simple. theyre like a little sponge with the treatment on and you just wipe it on, leave for a few mins and wipe off. they work really well and one treatment has lasted well over 6 weeks and is still fine
