Under the glovebox sub?

Featured Replies

Alpine SWE-1000 or Ratho Impulse SLB-300 or similar by Kenwood or Pioneer etc....

They're all little dooty active sub boxes. I was thinking that a bit of 9-12mm MDF secured to the underside of the glovebox area would hold one quite securely whilst being almost invisible to prying eyes. Also has an advantage of having very short cable runs from the h/u.

Is there any major reason why this wouldn't work or shouldn't be done? The other option I'm considering is one of those low-profile Pioneer things....

I think it should work quite well, as it'd be putting the bass where it's wanted, in the cabin, rather than in the boot.

I think it depends on how much you want it. There isnt much room, so maybe you can get what - max 8 L enclosure? You will also need to really dampen the dash, or everything will rattle.

Again, the lowprofile subs - nothing compared to a real sub - but it depends what you want.

Regarding "sub where you want it", if you cut off above 80hz, it is quite hard to position the sub.

So instead you then want kickbasses in the doors, which will handle from 80hz to 500hz or something. That would be the right way to do it.

Better make it removable so you can get the pollenfilter out ;)

I had a very low profile and small capacity Pioneer sub in the pick up (box was actually sectioned inside, didnt need to be that big).

I think the key to stopping most (!?!?) of the rattles is a bit of dynamat extreme and a lot of wadding or bonding between different surfaces of the sub-dash assembly. (not an intention pun!). But to get it sounding anywhere near right, it has to be secured solidly first.

The point is to improve the bass without making the car less habitable or usable. I have a Kenwood KFC-WDA69RC "active" 6x9 setup in the rear shelve of my Impreza. That was supposed to give "civilised" bass without drowning the neighbourhood in DOOM! Erm.. no.... :( If I set it up for my favourite rock tracks, I can't see behind me properly 'cos the RVM is vibrating.

Taken some piccies after extracting the the glovebox. With a ruler in frame, so that I may judge the dimensions. Tired now though, so will host later, maybe....

1st thoughts...

- D*mn! The passenger side heater vent is in the way.

- How do I support the bottom end/bulkhead end of my MDF/whatever panel?

(There is a carpet retainer stud/bolt in kind of the right position to act as bottom location for my panel)

The Glovebox actually seems reasonably well built and mounted. Metal brackets either side, lots of carpet/deadening stuff. I'm quite encouraged.

No idea how you would fix it to the dash. MDF plus a sub = some weight.

Have you looked at the JBL 8inch sub? For a sealed enclosure it only needs 8l
