Upgrading Mk2 Occy Front Speakers

Featured Replies

Having just replaced the the front woofers, I can confirm that the OEM speaker mounts can be replaced with the MK5 Golf speaker adapters. Pretty interesting, as none of the main 'big name' ice manufacturers said that anything existed for the Mk2 Occy. anyway, I was offered some decent woofer units cheap (Poineer) so installed these with Mk4 golf > speaker adapter leads and now the mid range, bass component id slight more noticable but a lot tighter and punchier. Next step changing over the tweeter using a basic single capacitor crossover, so i don't have to chop out the existing loom cables.

Hope tihs info helps other upgraders!

Cheers

Chris

Let me know how you get on with the tweeters, I fear they have a lot to answer for and the crossover used!

Well they effectively look like they only use a high pass capacitor only. So not suprising :(

I have made up some connectors that allow me to put in my pioneer passive crossovers and tweeters whilst still using the existing connectors and loom. Thus if it was really neccesary I could go back to factory spec without a problem.

I'll install this when the wether gets better, maybe even today....he says...

I bought the Golf 5 adaptors months ago and found the same. They are the same and like you I was suprised that nobody seems to actually list them for the Octavia II.

As for tweeters, I bought a couple of new A pillar tris and installed them there, as I found the factory locations too small and badly positioned.

The A pillar trims are very cheap and easy to work with if you want a better SQ from your speakers.

My poineer tweter went in nicely. The OEM tweeters are only help in place with three small plastic welds.

Did you ever do the rears? I have a feeling they use a different adapter?

Hi Chris,

If the Pioneers sound ok in the stock location then so much the better as it keeps it all nice and stealth :)

Not too sure about the rears as mine are standard and the phone is diverted through them. tbh for a good stereo you are best not using them as they will just drag the soundstage back.

I have only ever used front components and a sub in the boot, and never get complaints from front or rear seat passengers ;)
