Coolant loss

Featured Replies

Hello to all.

I'm having a problem with my coolant loss. Apparently I'm not loosing any but the bottle is empty, and the red indicator light is blinking. As soon as I start the engine level of the coolant is a bit higher but still below min. I can not see any liking.

I went to the service, change watter pump, thermostat and expansion bottle, but problem still persist.

Any idea?

Welcome to Briskoda. What year is your car and which engine does it have?

Cooling fan switch would be a good bet, quite often leak from there.

Possible head gasket if 1.4 MPi, look at right hand side of the head for a tab saying Temac or T. If it doesnt ave that its not a modded gasket.

Hi there,

I had a similar problem which never got properly sorted by my local Skoda dealer.

In the end toko it to an independent garage and they diagnosed a broken radiator.

Cost me £191 for the part and labour - now not losing any coolant at all.

I had my radiator replaced under warranty recently for the same problem and everything seems fine now.

I had to ask twice about it though, first time they said, "it's quite normal to lose a bit of coolant" - not in any car I've previously owned!! And certainly not to the extent that it drops way below the min mark.

When I was having to top it up every couple of weeks I went back and lo and behold they diagnosed a dodgy radiator.

Hi all

I've had all of the above problems. After spending the last three saturdays under the bonnet we've come to the conclusion thats it s the head gasket.

WEEK 1= Replace water pump [no joy]

WEEK 2= Replace thermostat [same!]

WEEK 3= Repace radiator [guess!]

WEEK 4=Skim head ,apply new head gasket [to be done 05/07/08]
