High Speed Shudder ???

Featured Replies

Hi guys ,

For the last couple of hundredc miles every time i go above 60mph the steering starts shuddering like hell on my vrs !!! My mate borrowed the car for a day a month back and curbed an alloy on the drivers side pretty bad ( which is now sorted ) would this be what caused the problem , and if so what would need fixing ?????

any suggestions or advice welcome.

I would think he's upset the tracking, possibly (but doubt it) bent some steering linkages.

Get it checked for safety reasons and also cos it'll probably cause uneven and increased tyre wear.

Also a faint possibility the wheel was not balanced properly when it was 'fixed'.

Oh, and send him the bill.

yeah he paid for the tracking and the wheel balancing but it still not right !!!

Good checkover at trustworthy garage needed - steering arms, balljoints, track-rod ends, the wheel again, tyre wear, etc etc :(

You could check the tyres yourself for uneveness of wear with tread depth gauge.

will do!!

Could be that the wheel balance is not quite spot on. I used to have a celica with non original alloys and it was very sensitive to wheel balance being even a tiny bit out.

Took it to one tyre place to get a wheel balanced and when there was still a problem after a second attempt they said try another garage and a different machine, I did and it was fine. Don't know if the fabia is the same, are the wheels original?

Check the obvious first and work your way back, TYRE PRESSURE?

if all the balancing and tracking etc is spot on he may have buckled a wheel for you - nice :|
