Surround Sound Upgrade

Featured Replies

I'm wondering whether to upgrade my surround speakers for the lounge. I currently have an Onkyo 605 amp linked up to a set of Mission M70 surround speakers and active sub.

The trouble is the speakers are silver and quite large and bulky. I'd quite like to upgrade the whole set of speakers but I wonder if I could get away with just swapping the rears and taking it from there.

I've been looking about and I really like the look of B&W M1's http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/display.aspx?infid=1183&sc=ht

But they're really expensive.

I know KEF do good surround speakers and would probably go for the 2005 series if pushed, but I don't know how compact they are.

Anyone have any experience of these speakers, or can you suggest summat else that's compact and unobtrusive?

It just so happens that I have in front of me a recent review of compact speakers (I'm currently looking for a set myself!) and the clear winner is KEF KHT3005 SE but we are talking £1k.

If you'd like I could send you a copy, just PM me your address and I'll pop it in the post

I can highly recommend KEF speakers as Ive just replaced my 2005.2's with the 3005 SE's (the ones Steve mentions above).

Great speakers and considering what I'll probably get for the 2005.2's now and the fact the 3005 SE's cost me nearly 1k to replace them - not a million miles apart in terms of performance!

Thanks Steve but I think I may have the very same article!

I picked up some Monitor Audio Radius R90s a little while ago to act as my surrounds. Rather discreet but incredibly good sound quality. They are rather bright though but I think the sound is more than adequate for surround purposes.

You could get loads of special offers on them where you buy one, get one free
