fabia switchgear - yawn!

Featured Replies

anyone thought of changing the three boring -looking control knobs on the lower central fabia dash (heater/blower etc) to something a bit less crap!

1) do they just pull off for replacement?

2) do any other VAG knobs fit?

3) anyone know of other marques with a similar fit?

summat with some chrome detailing to match inner door handles would be nice ! bear in mind the differing sizes of the knobs - anything on new polo gt/ ibiza tdi sport , audi tt (!) or any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Im pretty sure milotec do a chrome detialing kit for the fabia.... cant remember the website off the top of my head.

Uhm http://www.milotec.de/english/ ?

They do some nice stuff for the interior. I like the look of those carbon door trims.

Can't find anything on the three knobs though.

thanks lads - have already seen that website but i read on another thread that the dash detailing kits were a bit pants in a 'looks like my granny did it' kinda way.

just can't believe that the fabia designers would have spent any time at all designing the knobs and, more specifically ,the mechanisms behind them for controlling stuff. there must be a compatability with, at least, other VAG cars in the same way that some switches from the mondeo now apparently appear in jags!

Do they do interior trim for RHD cars??

Yes, or you can get the same stuff from a Skoda dealer (probably via jhm buttco) and even Halfrauds. (in brushed aluminium, wood effect, carbon fibre, red and yellow).

I have seen somewhere you can buy these, in chrome. but for the life of me I cant think where it was. I do recall that is was also bits that fit the polo if that helps any? Also if it helps who ever the company was it was in the links on briskoda (atleast I think it was). I'm not helping much am I

I'm sure the heater dials from the Golf MKIv will fit. they are of a much better quality, the same would go for the headlight switch.

All you'd need to do is swap over the illumination colour.

I was thinking about swapping this over myself.

quick reply - half time 1-0 to the lads !!!

1)mkiv golf knobs fit? do i have to unscrew the dash around the knobs (seems like two screws under the dash to remove) or do they just pull off ?

2)are these replacements chrome?

3)need to change illumination colour? wont that be the same or do we have to remove more than just the knobs to replace?

if someone has done this please post some piccys- would lift the whole dash just by sorting this area out- i think we may be onto something here!!

ps. someone 'sort out' nuno (are you a girl dressed up) gomes in the next five mins b4 second half !!

http://awesome-gti.com/ have a look there, found it in the end "didn't I do well" *pat on the back*

as above Golf1V or polo should fit as they look kinda the same but best get confirmation from someone far smarter than me :P

indeed a pat on the back to your good self !

only trouble is that the knobs on the fabia are of different sizes - centre is smaller and so only two of these would fit. also these are covers for the originals - are there no direct replacement VAG knobs from other cars which would fit to give a more 'solid' finish?

also a trim panel that may fit in the slot below the stereo is available from awesome - this can fit 3 gauges (of which one would have to be a clock imo) but could also fit some other useless tat which you'd never use! would look good tho and that's what counts isn't it ???

spose what i really need to do is transplant the whole TT dash into the fabia (perhaps a little trimming needed methinks) then spend the next millenium wiring it to my existing loom - only then would i be fully satisfied (til they bring out the new TT and therefore a nicer dash)

anyone else any ideas that would take up slightly less time ??

right - i have measured the offensive knobs and dials and they come out as below

1) outer dials are 53mm diam. and those knobs are 33mm diam,

2)the single middle dial is 43mm diam. and the central knob is 25mm diam.

i would be very grateful if someone with acces to a golf , leon , ibiza, polo or other VAG car could be arsed to go and measure the dials/knobs on these cars to see if we can find something to replace the standard fabia ones.

something a little smarter/more solid looking ,perhaps with some chrome detailing.

also if anyone has an upper range version of the above, do they have similar sized chrome ring detail??

has anyone any piccys of their 'improved' fabia dash (whether thro a purchased kit or thro their own handywork?)

lets see if we can improve this dash b4 skoda do it on the new one !!
