How to fit a towbar to Octy vRS

Featured Replies

I have fitted towbars before (last one was to a 2001 VW Polo), so I have a rough idea of what is involved with the bar and the wiring.

My question relates to removing the rear bumper. How do you remove the bumper on a 2002 Octy vRS (hatch). Do the mud flaps need to be removed? Do you have to pull the strip out of bumper? Does to autochanger need removing to allow access in the boot?

All instructions are welcome.

Just fitted one to my Octavia estate, and would imagine they are the same.Yes you do need to remove the mudflaps (4 torx screws) there are two bolts that hold the autochanger in place which also locate into the bumper and one under rear light cluster.Thats identical on the off side. There are then probably 4 torx screws underneath the bumper and its off!! Undo the 3 nuts each side of the bumper bar and remove, you will then see the box section chassis either side to slide the tow bar into (assuming thats the type you have, Mine was a Bosal with the swan neck) There are 2 boltholes either side that are covered over, all you need to do is punch through them with a screwdriver or similar, locate the threads and tighten up the bolts. If you need to make a cut out in the bumper it should only be a small one and its easier to mark the position by removing the towball part of the towbar and offering the bumper up to where it is situated, marking then cutting out.As for the wiring, you can do it all on the near side but you will definately need the auto changer out to access the offside wiring.Hope this is of some help.

Apart from the wiring which took about 45mins to do ,the fitting of the towbar was under an hour.
