I'm going to fit my oil temperature gauge sender in the oil sump plug. I want to buy a new plug to do this so has anyone got the part number? The number for the sump plug gasket would be usefull too :D

Thanks in advance.

By the book the sump plug should be replaced every service. Thats why they are green in colour and the washer is not removeable unless cut off.

I just cut the old washer off and use a new one though.

Just triggered a thought..

I remember an article in Auto Express a while ago about a VW Passat TDi owner who was surprised to find his oil was still black immediately after a service. When he enquired about it, the dealer admitted that they didn't drain oil anymore, they sucked it out through the dipstick tube instead, thus increasing the possibility that a larger amount of old oil was still left in there than after a drain... He complained and they changed it again - by draining it.

Anyone else heard of this? Hope this practice isn't going to spread.

Doesn't diesel oil go black immediately anyway?

Chris

Mercedes were draining oil that way via the dipstick tube as far back as the 1980s.

Most of the high street "servicing" places suck the oil out, and leave all the gunge in the sump.......

Phil

dont they use a flush though to get all the crap into the filter?
