Slight pulsing - 1.9TDi

Featured Replies

Guys - been noticing recently a very slight pulsing in the power of my 2002 1.9TDi elegance estate, most noticeable around 1500 to 2000 rpm. It's still there when rolling with the clutch in, so I figure it must be the engine.

Know very little about Octavias, had this a year (since by 2.5TDi A4 decided to snap it's cambelt) with absolutely no problems with it (90K on the clock), so assume I know nothing about the engine set up.

Any thoughts (apologies if there are posts on this, spent the last 30 mins searching the forum and drawn a blank so far).

Cheers

Not quite sure what you mean here. Did you mean that the pulsing is still noticable on the over-run in gear, as well as under power?

Ken - not sure I fully understand your question. A bit more of an explanation if it helps:While driving at constant speed say at around 30mph in 3rd gear, I notice the slight pulsing in power. When I put the clutch down and release the accelerator the pulsing disappears and if I were to rev the engine out of gear it's not noticeable. If it were a petrol engine I may suspect a weak spark plug or something, could it be a blocked injector on one of the cylinders? And is that an easy thing to check / rectify?

Cheers

I think you may have actually come up with an "original problem"!

It's rare for injectors to block IME, but they can wear out. Mine's on 80k at the same age or thereby, and doesn't show anything similar.

Probally means an engine stutter at that rpm.

Try putting in some injector cleaner.Check the MAF also and try the "Cage Mod".
