Installed AVG 8.0 and Lost Email

Featured Replies

Exactly as it says above - I installed AVG 8.0 on Sunday morning and my email has stopped working (or at least the incoming seems to have).

I'm guessing it is something to do with the email scan settings etc. within AVG but any ideas as I've not had time to have a proper look and the wife needs it so she has acees to documents she's emailed home from work.

I'll have a look at the manual and the AVG site but any help would be gratefully received.

What email application do you use? I've had Outlook running happily with AVG 8.0 for a few weeks now, despite anti-spam meddling from both AVG and ZoneAlarms. mail2web.com - Pick Up Your Email could help your Mrs get out of a tight spot...

Ta for the link.

I use Outlook Express for my sins via Virgin media Broadband, using thier outgoing server but a different incoming server.

Worked fine until Sunday but having had a read I think I may need to manually input the servers into the AVG mail filter???

Does it work if you disable the AVG v8 email scanner ?

Don't think so from memory (I'm now in work but pretty sure I tried that his morning). The wife has also called it quits for the moment and gone in as well but we'll still need to get it sorted. Only problem now is I'm off to Norwich (from Sheffield) this afternoon for a day or so but I might get the chance to play at lunctime when I go home to dump the car.

Dont think it is that as we still have the old emails but cannot get any new ones as the connection to the server seems to be failing

Backup your emails 1st then try uninstalling it / totally disabling it (difficult to do unless you know how) to see if your connection is then restored ?

Hi Guys - just a quick update to say thanks I evetually got it all working.

It needed a re-install with Outlook Express set as the default mail client which sorted part of it out and then a call to the email server helpdesk to find out that the servers had been down for a week or so... followed by a further call to them once they were up and running again to find out that they had changed the login name requirements but not let anyone know (good of them eh?)
