My little VRS tuning plan...

Featured Replies

Going to get it rolling roaded as a bench mark. Currently has pd160 intake and panel filter.

Not expecting anything fun... maybe 130bhp :o

Then i m going to fit a decat and depending on how restrictive the back box is, cant imagine it will be, get that replaced. Then i ll be getting it on the rollers again.

Finaly it will be up to MRC tuning for a remap. Then its back on the same rollers to see the final results!

This should give an honest results to the types of 'performance' upgrades.

Any guesses what it ll make on each of the runs? Prize for the closest guess!

Does anyone know how restrictive the backbox on the fabia is? Alternatively i may get a pipe decat straight to the back box...?

Whole idea is to not spend mega bucks in order to gain some performance, hence why i m not spending £350+ on a milltek or blueflame.

I m about results, not looks and 'Kudos' :D

keep us updated at each stage, will be good to see the increase in power after each mod!!

id be cautious of a decat on a standard vrs turbo, they arent the strongest

also a decat creates more smoke and smeels a bit I've heard

Get a boost gauge or an OBD2 monitor/VAGCOM so that you can log boost. You really don't want to run the standard turbo over 1.5-1.6 bar for any length of time. And it should/must(!?) tail off at higher revs. I don't know what numbers to aim for though.... I'm an armchair enthusiast, not a tuner.

my arguement for the decat on the standard system is that, when people talk about the turbo running off and the problems associated with it, it seems these people have full bigger bore systems from the turbo back. Really minimising back pressure.

The standard system with decat will be a lower bore therefore potentially counter acting the turbo problem.... well thats my theory on it anyway!

I give you a month after the mapping before the turbo goes bang. ;)

...just an excuse to get an uprated turbo then if it does go bang. But i have faith! :P

i have just bought a fab vrs which is remapped to around 180 and the turbo went pop within a week of me having it :( now looking at a pd150 turbo or if anyone else has any ideas or better turbos going spare let me know :)

i put my cat back on after remaping it, jabba reccomended it and seemed the best thing to do its alot of money to risk as a turbo and intercooler and clutch will cost ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

What exhaust system do you have on your car mate?

it was a custom powerflow sstem i had made, with the decate but when remaped just fitted the cat back into the system, the exhaust sounds good, especially under loads a nice deep burble nothing like a chavy hair dryer

Yeah, only if the turbo goes the right way whilst blowing up - wrong way and you can say bubye to the engine...

20v Turbo conversion?

do you have any backboxes/ silencers or a pipe all the way to back?

what size bore?

BANG!

Seen a vRS turbo go - not a pretty sight

no i ave a small back box on, its a nice rumble but at stand still its still a diesel, so at the current moment its got a decat and diff back box
