air con clutch

Featured Replies

just had my octavia 1.9 tdi y reg serviced after doing 100800 miles and had a nice £700 worth of stuff done to it!

however skoda says theres something wrong the air con clutch which will cost £336 to fix the £60 to service the air con! air con doesnt seem cool so hence a prob! should i fix it or get the air con taken out and go back to tradiktional cooling as aint got traditional cooling at the mo?

what do u think?

Depends on the size of your wallet, bud.

A/C clutch has probably fallen off, not unheard of.

My 140k 2003 TDi Ambiente just had the same (almost) problem - see my recent thread. Basically it seems the nut came loose causing the air con clutch to break the compressor or something like that. there is a thread around that explains it all better - as was stated, does not seem to be that uncommon..... I am just lucky that I bought it from a dealer about a week and half before it happened, so they are replacing the compressor etc at their own cost.

While they await the part they have just removed it so I can drive normally and have the fan working, just no aircon. Took him 45 - 60 mins to take it all off, see what it was, show me the bits and give me back the keys.

EDIT - See the recent thread by AVAGO as well for a better explanation - this fault seems to be occurring a lot in the last week!

Jusf remember if the ac system is opened to atmostphere drier should also be renewed.
